THE RAW REPORT
by Richard Trionfo

Raw Report for April 18, 2005
by Richard Trionfo

We are less than two weeks away from Backlash and we have a total of two matches announced for the pay per view. Will we see any more matches announced for the pay per view? What will happen when Triple H faces Jim Ross in a non-Oklahoma venue not on Jim Ross’s birthday? What will happen when Hulk Hogan answers Shawn Michaels’s request to be his tag team partner against Muhammad Hassan and Khosrow Daivari? Will we see the World Champion appear on the show to do something before the final segment this week? What will happen with the open challenge for the tag titles that William Regal made last night on Heat? If Jim Ross beats Triple H, will he get the title match against Batista at Backlash?

Eric Bischoff is in his office with Jim Ross and he tells Jim that he knows how he feels. Eric says that he would be scared too if Triple H challenged him to a match. Eric wonders if Jim Ross wants him to call off the match and let him announce. However, Eric says that announcers are ‘a dime a dozen’ so the match will go on. Eric says that the match will now be a no-disqualification match. Eric says that he will be fair so he will let Jim Ross have someone in his corner to offset Ric Flair. That man will be Batista. How about some music?

We are live from the Mecca of Wrestling, Madison Square Garden in New York, New York and your announcers are Jerry ‘I Miss JR already . . . Is that Scoops over there?’ Lawler and Jonathan ‘CM Punk is one person?’ Coachman.

We start off with the man who I think you know possesses a leather briefcase, Edge. His opponent is Chris Benoit. Do you remember two weeks ago when Edge attacked Chris Benoit with a steel chair? Edge attacks Benoit when he comes into the ring and punches Benoit. Benoit responds with chops and knees in the corner. Benoit with an Irish whip, but he runs into a boot from Edge. Benoit with the throat slash and he goes up top, but Edge moves when Benoit comes down with the diving headbutt. Edge sets up for the Spear, but Benoit moves out of the way. Edge with an inverted DDT to Benoit followed by a rear chin lock. Edge with an arm bar, but Benoit with forearms to Edge followed by chops. Benoit flips out of a belly-to-back suplex and locks in the Crossface. Edge is able to get to the rope. Benoit goes outside with Edge and sends Edge into the ring steps. It is time for one third of the women’s division to come out, and it is the women’s champion, Trish Stratus. Trish tells the crowd to sit down because their applause is not necessary. Trish says that she wants to clear the air and make a clean start with Lita. Trish wants Lita to come out to talk before things get out of control. Lita comes to the ring on a crutch with her leg in a brace. The crowd boos Lita, and Trish tells them to be quiet since they are trying to have a conversation. Viscera says that he likes to mix business with pleasure. Trish says that things are awkward. Viscera suggests that Trish take care of Kane and Lita by herself. SMACKDOWN REPORT; NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS
by Buck Woodward

Smackdown for April 21st (taped April 18th) opened with JBL, still carrying the old WWE Title belt, joining Tazz and Michael Cole on commentary.  JBL said that the fans "needed" him to be their champion.

The Big Show vs. Booker T.  The winner of this match would go on to face JBL and Kurt Angle next week in a three way match to determine the number one contender to the WWE Title. Booker's wife Sharmell was at ringside. After Big Show and Booker made their entrances, Kurt Angle came out and also joined the announcers. JBL was not happy with Angle joining them, and the two sniped at each other as the match began.  Booker went for a waistlock, but Show powered out of it.  Show hit a pair of headbutts and a forearm to the back. Booker threw a few punches, but they were ineffective.  Booker ducked a clothesline and started kicking at Big Show's leg.  Booker hit a chop in the corner, but Big Show responded with kicks and a chop of his own. Show delivered a hiptoss and a clothesline for a two count. JBL and Angle began discussing how if the match ended in a double DQ, neither man would advance to next week.  Show hit a legdrop for a two count. Show went for a chokeslam, but Booker fought out of it, only to be knocked down with a side kick. Show went for another kick, but Booker pulled down the top rope and Show crotched himself on the top.  Booker gave Show a low altitude Bookend for a two count.  Booker went to the top rope and hit a missile dropkick for another two count.  Booker hit an enzugiri and clotheslined him over the top rope, sending both men to the floor.  With Booker and Show laid out in front of them, JBL and Angle attacked them.  The referee called for the bell and a double DQ at the six minute mark.  Result: Double Disqualification.

JBL and Angle were pleased at the result, assuming neither Booker or Show would go on to the three way next week.  Big Show and Booker recovered and tossed JBL and Angle into the ring, but they ran out the other side.  General Manager Theodore R. Long came out and announced that next week would be a Fatal Four Way with JBL, Angle, Booker and Big Show for the title shot at Cena.  Long then ordered a tag team match with Booker & Show vs. Angle & JBL for later tonight. JBL and Angle argued in the aisle way as Show and Booker shook hands in the ring.

Carlito's Cabana.  Carlito Caribbean Cool insulted the New York fans to start the segment, saying they can't keep their cool, then introduced Eddie Guerrero as his guest, saying he can't keep his cool either. Carlito talked about MNM beating up Rey Mysterio last week, and Eddie not being around to help Rey. Guerrero said Carlito was trying to stir things up between Eddie and Rey. Carlito denied it, then showed the footage of how Eddie lost to Kurt Angle last week due to Rey distracting him while trying to help. Carlito started to say that "wasn't cool" but Guerrero yelled at him to shut up.  Eddie picked up an apple, and took a bite out of it.  Eddie said he wanted to talk to Rey face to face, like a man.  Eddie asked Rey to come to the ring, and Mysterio came out. Eddie explained that a year ago he was WWE Champion, and he has become obsessed with the belt and trying to get it back. Eddie talked about the events of the previous weeks, and asked Rey to forgive him for that, and said that he was going to stop thinking about what he doesn't have, and instead focus on what he does have, the WWE Tag Team Title and his family.  Eddie said he considered Rey part of his family.  Eddie said he was sorry, and offered Rey his hand. Rey hesitated, then shook hands with Eddie and the two hugged.  MNM appeared on the screen, reintroducing themselves to everyone.  MNM demanded a WWE Tag Team Title match tonight.  Eddie told them if they wanted a title match, they needed to come out to the ring and challenge them like true champions.  Matthews said they were more comfortable backstage, and the camera pulled back to reveal that MNM were on Eddie's Lowrider.  They left their "calling card" for the tag champs by spraypainting "MNM" on the side of the car. Guerrero and Mysterio ran off to the back as they went to break.

Orlando Jordan approached Doug & Danny Basham, reminding them that JBL said they needed to shape up, otherwise they'd be getting cut.  Orlando told them they needed to make sure Cena was softened up tonight when Orlando faced him, so JBL would have an injured opponent when he got his eventual title match.  Orlando walked off, and the Bashams didn't like that they were being talked down to again.  Danny said he was "sick" of it, and walked off.

Matt Morgan vs. ?  Morgan went up to his opponent and, stuttering, asked if he was laughing at him.  The opponent swore he wasn't, but Morgan shoved him down, starting the match.  Morgan hit a boot to the face and a clothesline to the back of the head, yelling at his opponent for laughing at him.  The opponent threw a few weak elbows, but Morgan planted him with a sideslam, then delivered a vertical suplex into a uranage for the pin at the one minute mark.  They never bothered to tell us who the opponent was. Winner: Matt Morgan.

Backstage, Kurt Angle and JBL were arguing, saying they don't like each other, as they headed to the ring for their tag team match.

Booker T & Big Show vs. Kurt Angle & John Bradshaw Layfield.  JBL and Booker were going to start, but Big Show tagged in, shoved JBL in a corner and started kicking him in the midsection.  Show whipped JBL across the ring and chopped him, then headbutted him to the mat.  Show delivered a vertical suplex, then headbutted him again.  Show smacked JBL with a chop in a corner, and JBL tried to fight back with punches and chops, only to be knocked down by a sidekick.  Show headbutted JBL into a corner, but ran into a boot.  JBL went to the top rope and dove off, but Big Show caught him and hit a fallaway slam. JBL rolled out of the ring, but Booker tossed him back in.  JBL stumbled to his corner and tagged in Angle.

Angle went for a leg, but Show kicked him away. Angle grabbed a side headlock, but Show put Angle in a corner and chopped him. Show hit another chop, and Angle tried to crawl away between Show's legs, but Show grabbed him and tagged Booker T. Booker stomped Angle, but Angle grabbed a side headlock.  Angle hit a shoulderblock, but Booker hiptossed him, then did the same to JBL, who ran in.  Booker gave Angle and JBL clotheslines, then gave JBL a side kick.  Angle gave Booker a German suplex.  Angle went for another, but JBL was trying to kick Booker and Booker ducked, so JBL kicked Angle.  JBL went to whip Booker across the ring, and Angle pulled down the top rope, so Booker would fall to the floor.  Angle and JBL then took turns attacking Booker while the other distracted Big Show.

Back in the ring, Angle hit Booker with a vertical suplex and tagged in JBL, who hit a swinging neckbreaker for a two count. Angle came in with a forearm uppercut, then hit a backbreaker for a two count. Angle snapmared Booker and applied a reverse bearhug. Booker battled out of it, but Angle hit a knee to the gut for a two count. Angle went for an Angle Slam, but Booker floated out of it.  Angle hit a back elbow and tagged in JBL. JBL hit Show on the apron, so he and Angle could double team Booker. JBL went for a powerbomb, but Booker backdropped him.  JBL came back with a boot to the face, then dropped a trio of elbows for a two count. Angle tagged in and hit an overhead belly to belly suplex.  JBL yelled at Angle to cover Booker, but Angle put Booker in a body scissors instead. Booker broke out, ducked a clothesline, and hit a DDT.

Booker tagged Big Show, just as JBL tagged in.  Big Show cleaned house on both opponents, whipping them into a corner and avalanching them, then hitting a double shoulderblock.  Big Show went for a chokeslam on JBL, but Angle grabbed Show with an Angle Slam.  Booker gave Angle a side kick, and JBL gave Booker a boot to the face.  JBL went for the Clothesline From Hell on Show, but Show blocked it and grabbed him by the throat.  Angle went to help JBL, then stopped and walked out of the ring instead.  JBL fought out of the choke, but Booker and Big Show double teamed JBL.  Booker hit the ax kick, and Big Show chokeslammed JBL for the pin at the thirteen minute mark, while Kurt Angle waved from the entranceway. Winners: Big Show & Booker T.

Heidenreich came out to the ring and said he had spent the last several days in New York looking for a friend.  He said he found that friend, and wanted to bring him out to the ring.  Out came his "new friend", the Brooklyn Brawler.  Heidenreich read the Brawler a poem about being his friend, then asked him what he thought of it.  Brawler said that the poem "sucked" and it was embarassing  Brawler said the only thing worse than his poem was when the New York Yankees choked against the Boston Red Sox.  Brawler then took off his Yankees shirt, revealing a Boston shirt, and claimed he is now "The Boston Brawler".  Heidenreich said that if he wasn't a friend of the New York fans, then he wasn't a friend of his.  Heidenreich beat up the Brawler, finishing him off with a side slam and calling him a "traitor".

Eddie battled out, but Mercury hit a knee to the gut and scored a two count.  Mercury then applied an abdominal stretch on Guerrero.  Guerrero escaped and hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, then made the hot tag to Mysterio.

Melina put herself in the way of the move, and Rey stopped short.  Eddie chased her away, but Melina jumped on Guerrero in the aisle.  While Eddie was throwing her off, Nitro clipped Rey from behind, and Mercury & Nitro hit an elevated DDT on Rey for the pin at the ten minute mark.  Winners and new WWE Tag Team Champions: MNM (Joey Mercury & Johnny Nitro, with Melina).

Guerrero and Mysterio started arguing, blaming each other for the loss.  Eddie shoved Rey down to the mat, and the two stared at each other. WWE Champion John Cena vs. U.S. Champion Orlando Jordan.  Neither title was on the line. Doug Basham accompanied Orlando Jordan, and the announcers pointed out that Danny Basham had said he was "sick" of being bossed around earlier.
