OUTSIDE TALENTS VS. X-DIVISION STARS AND MORE: COMPLETE TNA ONE NIGHT ONLY - XTRAVAGANZA 2016 PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-08-26 21:06:00

Backstage, Eddie Edwards said that he and Caleb Konley have traveled the same roads in the past and warned him that he isn't the prey, but the hunter.

Eddie Edwards vs. Caleb Konley

Konley cut a promo backstage saying he has been grinding away and was tired of being told it wasn't him time and tired of being a corporate puppet (for Highspots.com?).  He said it was time for the people to revolt.

Konley worked over Edwards' arm early.  They built a nice foundation with some good back and forth wrestling and reversals.  Konley shoulderblocked Edwards down but was caught with a series of deep arm drags before cinching in an armbar.

Konley was clotheslined over the top to the floor.    Back in the ring, Edwards nailed an inverted atomic drop and chopped away at him.  He whipped Konley into the corner and charged but Konley leapdropped him.  Edwards hit the ringpost shoulder-first and crashed to the floor.  Konley descended to the floor and slammed Edwards' arm against the apron before using the ringpost as a weapon.  The crowd tried to rally Eddie by chanting him name.

Konley continued working him over and nailed a nice low running clothesline.  He continued working over Edwards' arm and shoulder.  Edwards began to fight from underneath.  Konley whipped him into the ropes but Edwards held on and nailed a boot to the face.  Edwards tossed him to the floor and nailed a slingshot pescado to the floor.

Edwards brought the fight back into the ring and snapped off a top rope rana into the ring. Edwards set up for his finisher but Konley pulled the referee in the way.  Edwards stopped and Konley hit a brutal spinning backfist.  Konley did a great job here as the audience was really getting behind Edwards.  Konley was backdropped over the top to the apron but landed on his feet.  They went back and forth until Edwards hit the Boston Knee Party for the pin.

Your winner, Eddie Edwards!

Another good back and forth match.  Konley looked good on this stage and had a good chemistry in the ring.  Edwards was his usual smooth as silk.

Backstage, someone was working over Dunn's face.  He said Braxton had to do this to him to get the win.

A pissed off Konley said that he lost but he was man enough to win it.  He said that the war, the revolt was not over.  He said he was here to stay and here to be the X-Division's hero.  Good promo.

Backstage, Crazzy Steve said that the X-Division was a place where he could be who he was.  He said that to install misery, you have to create hope and take it away.  He said he was going to do that to his opponent tonight.  He said he was going to take great pride and pleasure by showing them misery to decorate himself with their insides.  He cut a pretty decent promo.

Zenshi vs. Crazzy Steve

Backstage, Zenshi showed a decent knack for speaking and said that fans were going to see something they have never seen before.  He said that he was here to stay and anyone who got in his way was going down.

Steve did mic work trying to screw with Zenshi's head but Zenshi wasn't going for it.   Zenshi had some cool aerial moves early on including stopping during a dive, using the ropes as balancing board to slip over, then spin into a rana, but was cut off with a Steve clothesline.  Steve ripped at his mask and nailed some cross faces.   Crazzy worked him over in the corner and tied him to the tree of woe.  He nailed several kicks and ripped at a mask.

Crazzy tried to tie up Zenshi and slammed him back.  Crazzy nailed a running knee to the back of the head but scored a two count.  Steve missed a flip in the corner.  Zenshi nailed some flippy moves.  Zenshi nailed a springboard into a bulldog for a two count.  He set up for a flying 450 splash but Steve pulled his knees up.  Steve drilled him with a DDT and scored the pin.

Your winner, advancing, Crazzy Steve!

OK bout.  Zenshi has some awesome flying spots.

Backstage, Shane Helms said you can't showcase the X-Division without the Helms Dynasty.  He said they were going to win and split the $10,000 40/30/30.  Trevor Lee and Andrew Everett both promised they were going to take out the BroMans.

They aired clips from 2011 Ultimate X match.

Ultimate X for $10,000 The Helms Dynasty with Shane Helms vs. The Bromans with Raquel.

Helms asked for the stupid Bromans music and told his Dynasty he was going to drop some truth.  He said that has been in TNA for awhile and didn't like the Bromans from the day he arrived, because they were a couple of goofballs and there's nothing he hates in wrestling more than a comedy act.  Heh heh.  He said that Raquel belongs in the Knockouts division and so do the Bromans.

Robbie E. asked Helms if he and his boys like looking at Raquel and that's cool because they would "never get a piece like this."  He said that he knew they were X-Division MVPs but they are known as the Bromans.  Jesse Godderz said they were here to kick ass.

Robbie and Everett started out.  They are doing traditional tags.  Uhh.....DUMB.  E had control early and tried to climb up.  Everett went to stop him but was kicked off.  E came off with a knee.  The Bromans double teamed Everett.  Godderz pressed and slammed him.  Godderz began climbing the structure but was pulled down by Everett.

Lee tagged in but was caught with a series of rights.  Lee drilled him and began working over his arm.  The Dynasty tagged in and out, working over Godderz's arm.  The entire idea of trying to work over your opponent with tags in and out in a match where you have to climb across the wires to claim the "X" seems so dopey to me, I have to tell you.  The work is fine but I feel like it's a backwards way to achieve the goal.

Godderz was put in a armbar but powered up with a one-armed powerbomb and slammed Everett into the buckles.  Godderz went to the wires but his arm gave out on him and he fell into the ring.  E tagged in and cleaned house, laying waste to the Dynasty.  He pointed to the "X" and tried to ascend the structure but was pulled down by Lee.  They fought back and forth until The Dynasty double teamed him.  Lee tried to make a jumping leap from the ring to grab the "X."  He touched it but it didn't come down.  This led to the announcers debating whether someone could get the "X" down that way.

The Dynasty kep working over E.  Everett went to the wires.  He made his way across but was dropkicked by Godderz and crashed into the ring. E hit the Boom Drop on Lee, tossing him down atop of Everett.  Helms protested but was sent down to the apron.  Godderz tagged in and cleaned house and showed some good fire.  He has really improved so much and deserves the credit for it.  He hit a nice powerslam and went for the wires.  Helms got in the ring and challenged him.  They faced off.  Raquel hit the ring and nailed a rana, then worked over Helms.  The crowd liked that.

Everett kicked off E and used the momentum to grab the wires.  Godderz pulled him down and Bromans hit the Hart Attack on him.  He locked in Everett in a submission.   Lee broke it up.  E got to the "X" and had problems getting it loose but just as Lee made it to him, he pulled it loose.  The referee missed it.  Helms yanked it down and tossed it to Lee.  Earl Hebner saw Lee with it and called for the bell.

Your winners, The Helms Dynasty!

Match was OK, although I hated the way this was formatted.  The work was fine but this wasn't meant to be the crazy spectacle that UX has been in the past.  Lee is a hell of an athlete and Godderz should really be commended for how hard he has worked to improve.

We got to see highlights of the show set to music.   Main event time.

Ladder Match: Suicide vs. Braxton Sutter vs. Crazzy Steve vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Chuck Taylor vs. DJ Zema vs. Marshe Rockett - Winner received future X-Division championship match

All seven were in the ring at the same time.  TNA lowered the lights and it looked bad, especially when everyone ran to grab ladders.  It looked like they disappeared into the darkness of a haunted house for a second.  Everyone brawled.  This looks like it's going to be all over the place.

Edwards hit a big dive on everyone to the floor.  Taylor followed up with a tope con hilo to the outside.  He smiled and said, "We did it guys" to the camera.  Suicide nailed a standing moonsault off the buckles.  DJ Zema did a crazy corkscrew to the floor.  He was grabbing at his back after.  Rockett hit a big dive to the floor.

A ladder was brought into the ring and everyone scrambled up.  Everyone battled and they were being knocked off left and right. Steve dumped the ladder.  Sutter kicked him down.   Sutter set up a ladder in the corner but Steve attacked him and drilled him with an elbow into the corner.   Sutter backdropped Taylor into the ladder.  Rockett caught him with a nice poweslam.  Zema nailed a DDT then a neckbreaker.

Sutter and Zema battled at the top of ladder, trying to get the contract.   Suicide set up another ladder next to it.  A third ladder was set up.  Taylor started to set up another ladder but then thought better of it and began using his ladder as a weapon, drilling people with it and sending them off their own ladders.  In the end, he was left standing and tried to climb to the top after removing the other ladders but DJ Zema attacked him and nailed a reverse hurancanrana.

Edwards and Steve went to the top of the ladders and battled.  Steve spewed red mist in his face.  Saxton worked over Steve and finally got to the top of the ladder and retrieved the contract.  So, he's getting the title shot.

Your winner, Braxton Sutter!

Fun little ladder match if you want big spots.

Backstage, Braxton Sutter said he got screwed out of his last X-Division championship shot but he's going to make the most out of this and that's no BS.  He said it took him time to get to where he is but he's going to succeed.  Short and to the point but fine.

Final Thoughts: Not a show that is going to change the world, but for $15, it was a solid few hours of wrestling.  The new talents getting a look gave the show a fresh feel and there was some good work ethic across the show.  I suspect this show will fall under the radar but those who see it will get a pretty decent show.  Other than the silly rules imposed on the UX, I really had no complaints.  There were a bunch of decent matches with different styles across the board here.   Nice to see TNA finally do something with Sutter but whether it ever plays into the weekly TV show...well, I will believe that when I see it!

By the way, the Fite.TV stream was perfect.  For about 10 seconds of the UX match, it got a little fuzzy and then corrected itself.  I was streaming to a 55 inch HD TV so I'd have noticed any imperfections and it was smooth sailing the entire time.  Thumbs up all the way on the Fite TV front.
