11/3 THIS DAY IN HISTORY: JESSE VENTURA 'SHOCKS THE WORLD'

By Mike Johnson on 2024-11-03 08:00:00

November 3rd

On This Day in History in ....

1939 - Steve Casey defeats Ed Don George for the American Wrestling Association World Heavyweight Title in Buffalo, New York, ending George's third and final reign with the belt, and starting Casey's third reign.

1981 - The Spoiler defeats Charlie Cook for the Florida State Heavyweight Title in Tampa, ending Cook's second reign, and starting the third and final reign for the Spoiler. The Spoiler had last held the title over three years earlier.

1997 - The Monday Night Wars continued, with WCW Monday Nitro on TNT doing a 4.0 rating to WWF's 2.6 for Monday Night Raw on USA. The interesting story of the night was Perry Saturn making his Nitro debut and defeating Disco Inferno via submission to win the WCW Television Title. Saturn, who had just recovered from a broken leg, made the jump from ECW, breaking up The Eliminators tag team with John Kronus.

Here are the results from Raw that night: Mr. Aguila (Essa Rios) defeated Super Loco (Super Crazy). ... Kane defeated Ahmed Johnson. ...Marc Mero defeated Savio Vega. ...Vader defeated Davey Boy Smith in a Dog Collar match. ... The New Age Outlaws defeated Los Boriquas. ... Ken Shamrock defeated European Champion Shawn Michaels via disqualification.

Here are the results from Nitro: Eddie Guerrero & Dean Malenko defeated Rey Mysterio Jr. & Steven Regal when Malenko forced Mysterio to tap out to the Texas Cloverleaf. ...Dave Finlay pinned David Taylor with a tombstone piledriver. ...Yuji Nagata defeated Psychosis with the Nagata Lock...Perry Saturn defeated Disco Inferno to win the World Television Title with the Rings Of Saturn. ... Chris Jericho pinned Scott Hall with a cradle. Hall was going for the Outsider's Edge and yelling at announcer Larry Zbyszko when Jericho floated over him for the pin. ...The Giant interfered and cleared out a Lucha Libre battle royal. ... Ric Flair defeated Alex Wright with a figure four leglock. ... Ray Traylor pinned Steve McMichael with a side slam. ...WCW World Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers defeated Public Enemy in a Philly Street Fight when Scott pinned Rocco Rock after he missed Rick Steiner while trying to put him through a table. ... Lex Luger defeated Curt Hennig by disqualification when Ric Flair interfered.

1998 - Jesse "The Body" Ventura, running as an Independent candidate on the Reform Party ticket, defeats Democrat Hubert Humphrey III and Republican Norm Coleman to become the Governor of Minnesota. Ventura, who would later change his nickname to "The Mind" made headlines nationwide with his victory, telling supporters "We shocked the world."

1998 - During a Raw taping at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas, Mankind makes the first defense of the WWF Hardcore Title by pinning Ken Shamrock on the rampway after help from Vince McMahon, Big Bossman, Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson. Also on the taping, William Regal defeated Golga of the Oddities and during the match unmasked him, revealing John Tenta. However, the unmasking was accidental, so the match never aired on the show.

2007 - World Wrestling Entertainment announced that long-time WWF Women's champion The Fabulous Moolah (Lillian Ellison) passed away. She was 84 years old.  A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Moolah was Women's Champion nine times, including the period before it was a WWE Title and "forgotten" switchesont> not acknowledged in official WWE history books.  She may be best remembered for having the longest running championship reign (publicized as 28 years, although in truth, there were back-and-forth switches during that reign) of any champion ever in professional wrestling history and maintained a close relationship with the McMahon family through the years.  Moolah was the driving force of women's wrestling, training many of the competitors in the sport, for several decades.

2009 - WWE broadcast ECW.   Richard Trionfo filed the following live report:

We start off with a look at last week’s match between Christian and Yoshi Tatsu for the ECW Title where Christian retained, only to be attacked after the match by Emperor Regal and his Imperial Troops.

We are live on tape from Providence, Rhode Island and your announcers are Josh ‘Where is a Krispy Kreme when you need one’ Mathews and Byron ‘I can see Massachusetts from my hotel room window’ Saxton.

Christian comes to the ring and he has something to say. He says that after living through it last week and seeing the footage again, he wants William Regal in the ring right now. Christian says that he knows Regal is back there. If Regal doesn’t want to come out, then he will go after Regal.

Instead of Regal, Tiffany comes out to the ring. Tiffany says that she knows that Regal is upset and he deserves to be. Regal acted the way he did because she wouldn’t give him a title match. Christian says that Regal has disrespected Tiffany, the fans, and him and he is done with it. Tiffany tells Christian that is how Regal wanted things to go. Christian does not care.

The Imperial March plays and Regal comes out with his red clad guards. Regal says that he has the advantage over Christian. He wonders how badly Christian wants him in the ring. He asks if he will give him a title match. Christian wants a match now.

Tiffany says that they each have matches so they will have to wait. Christian does not care because this is where he won his first ECW title and he is ready to defend it in front of his peeps. Tiffany asks Regal if he accepts the challenge. Regal thinks about it and says no. Regal says that he is the one in control and if Christian is offering a title match, it will only be on his terms. Christian wants to know the terms. Regal wants the match to be next week in front of a deserving crowd, not in front of the cretins in Providence. Regal wants the match in England. Christian says that he will see Bill in England. Tiffany makes the match official, but under one condition. Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov are banned from ringside. Tiffany tells Regal that he is wrestling next.

Christian with a baseball slide to Regal as Regal enters the ring. We go to commercial.

Match Number One: William Regal versus Goldust

They lock up and Regal backs Goldust into the ropes and Regal pushes Goldust but Goldust punches back. Regal and Goldust with punches but Goldust with the advantage and he punches Regal. Regal goes to the floor and Goldust meets him with a punch. They return to the ring and Goldust with more punches. Regal throws Goldust to the floor but Goldust pulls Regal out and Goldust with more punches and then he slams Regal’s head into the apron. Regal misses a forearm and Goldust with an atomic drop. Goldust with punches in the corner. Regal with a kick and then he sends Goldust into the turnbuckles and he connects with forearms. Regal with a forearm to the head after an Irish whip. Regal gets a near fall. Regal with a rear chin lock on Goldust. Goldust gets back to his feet and he punches Regal. Goldust with the drop down uppercut and more punches followed by clotheslines. Goldust with a punch and Irish whip but he walks into a boot. Goldust with a power slam for a near fall. Goldust with a bulldog to Regal but he misses a charge into the corner and Regal with a running knee to the side of the head for the three count.
Winner: William Regal

Zack Ryder is in the back checking on his hair and Rosa Mendes stops by and she introduces herself to him and points out that she is the ring announcer for Zack’s match. Zack daydreams while Rosa talks and then he has an accident with his drink. We go to commercial.

We are back and did you know that people look at a lot of WWE photos.

Match Number Two: Zack Ryder versus Shelton Benjamin with Guest Ring Announcer Rosa Mendes

They lock up and Benjamin with a take down and waist lock into a side head lock. Benjamin with a shoulder tackle and Zack goes to the floor on an Irish whip. Zack makes his way over to Rosa but he turns around and sees Shelton. Zack returns to the ring and then he drops kicks Shelton to the floor. They return to the ring and Ryder with a kick to Benjamin and a near fall. Ryder sends Benjamin into the corner and he follows that with a face wash for a near fall. Ryder with a reverse chin lock. Ryder runs Benjamin into the corner but Benjamin with a punch. Both men exchange punches until Benjamin gets the advantage and then he hits a back body drop. Benjamin with the Stinger Splash but Ryder with a forearm. Benjamin with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Ryder goes to the floor and Ryder brings Benjamin back in but Benjamin lands on his feet while Ryder watches Rosa apply some make up. Benjamin hits Paydirt for the three count.
Winner: Shelton Benjamin

We go to commercial.

We are back and Paul Burchill and Katie Lea are in the ring. Paul mentions that he told Gregory Helms a week ago to have the Hurricane come to the ring about a proposal that will end everything.

Hurricane finally makes his way to the ring and he has his Hurri-Cane with him. Hurricane says that he is here for Burchill. Paul tells Hurricane that Halloween is over. Hurricane says that for some Halloween lasts all year long and he suggests that Paul ask his sister. Paul says that he has had enough Hurricane’s lip. Hurricane says that he has had enough with citizen Burchill. Burchill says that Hurricane is a fraud and he has duped the fans. Paul says that he has great family values but the fans look up to Hurricane. Hurricane says that maybe it is because the fans just want to have fun, just like him. Maybe they like to fly. Hurricane says that chicks dig superheroes. Burchill says that this is not funny time. In order to finish this once and for all, he suggests one more match. If Burchill wins, Hurricane unmasks and reveals the fraud that he is. If Hurricane wins, he will leave along with Katie. Hurricane says that in brightest day and blackest night, Hurricane will never back down from a fight. He says that the match is on.

Abraham Washington is walking in the back with Tony Atlas and he is complaining about what William Regal did last week. Abe says that he is going to get Tiffany to buy him a new set. Abe talks about the new set that he is going to get for the Abraham Washington Show. Abe knocks on Tiffany’s office door and Vance Archer leaves. Abe asks who that was and Tiffany says that is ECW’s newest Superstar Vance Archer and he is . . . intense.

We go to commercial.

We are back with the Raw Rebound.

Match Number Three: Vance Archer versus Logan Jones

They lock up and Archer sends Jones to the floor. Archer with a kick to Jones as he re-enters the ring. Archer with a belly-to-belly suplex followed by an inverted DDT for a three count.
Winner: Vance Archer

Christian and Yoshi Tatsu are walking in the back as we go to commercial.

Match Number Four: Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov versus Christian and Yoshi Tatsu

Yoshi and Jackson start things off. They lock up and Jackson sends Yoshi down to the mat. Yoshi with a series of kicks and two drop kicks but Jackson powers out of a cover. Kozlov tags in and Yoshi with a kick to the leg. Yoshi with another kick and he avoids a kick from Kozlov. Yoshi with a back kick and side head lock. Kozlov throws Yoshi away but he lands on his feet. Yoshi with a kick but Kozlov with a head butt and then he sends Yoshi into the turnbuckle and he tags in Jackson who gets a near fall after a slam. Jackson with a knee to the head. Jackson with a double underhook and then he connects with a forearm and tags in Kozlov. Kozlov with shoulders in the corner and then he chokes Yoshi in the corner. Kozlov with a head butt to the chest followed by a belly-to-belly suplex for a near fall. Jackson tags back in and he punches Yoshi in the ribs. Jackson with a double over hook followed by a forearm to the back. Jackson with an Irish whip but Jackson misses a charge into the corner and Yoshi makes his way to the corner to make the tag and he is able to do so. Christian with punches to Kozlov and a kick followed by the corkscrew back elbow from the turnbuckles. Christian with a baseball slide to Jackson on the apron. Christian goes up top but Kozlov with a press slam. Kozlov gets Christian up for a back breaker but Christian escapes and he hits an inverted DDT for a near fall. All four men are in the ring and Yoshi and Christian take care of Jackson and then Yoshi with a pescado. Kozlov with a fallaway slam on Christian but Christian moves on a charge into the corner. Christian with a Tornado DDT and Christian sets for the Killswitch and hits it for the three count.
Winners: Christian and Yoshi Tatsu

AAfter the match, Regal tries to Pearl Harbor Christian but Christian sees it coming and he punches Regal. Jackson attacks Christian from behind and then they pull Christian into the ring post and then they stretch Christian against the ring post. Regal puts Christian in the Regal stretch on the floor and Yoshi Tatsu is laying behind the action.

2009 - TNA taped Impact in Orlando, FL with the following results:

Before the tapings started, Alyssa Flash defeated Traci Brooks by submission. After the match, Traci attacked Alyssa.

Impact starts with Mick Foley coming out for the match between Abyss and Stevie Richards. After a Black Hole Slam, the lights went out. When the lights came back on, Abyss was laid out and Richards got the win. Richards went to put a chair around Abyss' throat but Foley attacked Richards to stop him. The lights went out again and a fireball was thrown in Foley's face. The lights go back on and it was Raven who threw the fireball. He hits a Raven Effect and then posed with Daffney and Stevie. /p>

Jim Neidhart defeated Jay Lethal with a running power slam. (from JP: Yes, you read that right)

Kurt Angle comes out in a suit to a large ovation. He calls Turning Point the most important night of his life. He puts over A.J. Styles and Matt Morgan. Kurt says that he has no respect for someone who comes in and attacks him. He says that Desmond has earned nothing and Angle says that he will terminate Desmond's wrestling career. Desmond appears on the screen and Desmond says that he is here to take Angle's place. Wolfe comes through the crowd and that leads to a brawl between Angle and Wolfe. Desmond hits a DDT on the floor.

They introduce Super Dave Osborne and he is at the announce table with Mike Tenay and Taz. (Editor Note: I guess if WWE can get Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, TNA can get Super Dave Osborne. I wonder if they tried to get Dave's brother. According to Mike, Super Dave has a show on SpikeTV which debuts on November 14th.)

Motor City Machine Guns and TNA X Division Champion Amazing Red defeated Homicide, Sheik Abdul Bashir, and Kiyoshi. Homicide tried to bring in a barbed wire baseball bat, but security stopped Homicide and carried him out. Machine Guns pinned Bashir.

After the match, Super Dave Osborne left the announce table.

Team 3D come out with Rhino. They talk about choice with TNA based on something that Dixie Carter said about whether you were on board or not. He says that they are glad that they turned because they are getting lots of heat. Matt Morgan and Hernandez come out. Ray says that he has spilled more DNA in TNA than Morgan has in his body. Ray calls Hernandez a Mexican without a green card. A six man street fight is announced for Turning Point and Ray asks Morgan and Hernandez if they have a partner. Morgan says that they do not need a partner. Devon says that that if they are the future of TNA, then TNA will be no more. D'Angelo Dinero comes out and he says that he will be the third member of the team and then he runs down Team 3D.

Beer Money defeated The British Invasion in a Non-Title Match to earn a spot in the tag title match at Turning Point. If the British Invasion were disqualified or counted out in this match, Beer Money would be added to the match. Rob Terry came out with a chair but Doug Williams told Rob to go back. Magnus almost used the chair but Williams stopped him as well. Beer Money was able to get the win with a DWI on Magnus.

Samoa Joe defeated A.J. Styles in a Non-Title match after Styles passed out in the Choke. Daniels came out during the match and accidentally knocked A.J. off balance. Styles hit Daniels leading to Joe putting Styles in the choke. After the match, Joe posed with the belt.

For Xplosion:
Rob Terry defeated Kip James.

2010 - During an interview with AOL Fanhouse, Ken Anderson noted that TNA had banned chairshots to the head, commenting, "TNA has absolutely thrown down the gauntlet and said no more unprotected chair shots. And every time there is a chair involved in the ring, the agents will come up and say please make sure for me that you are not going to ... that you're going to put your hand up. Please tell me you're going to put your hand up or it's going to be a back shot or something like that."

2011 - Bobby Roode captured the TNA championship during a broadcast of Impact Wrestling.  Stu Carapola filed the following TV report:

We take a look back at James Storm discussing what it means to be the World Champion and Bobby Roode's win over Samoa Joe last week to earn a title shot on tonight's episode of Impact Wrestling, and then we're off to Macon, Georgia for our opening promo with World Champion James Storm. He talks about how growing up in the South was good for learning stuff about being a man and treating everybody with respect no matter what walk of life they come from. In the SOUTH?!?! Anyway, he also learned how to open doors for ladies (which gets the crowd chanting USA), and last night he was sitting around getting liquored up thinking about what he wants on his tombstone, and now he can add World Champion to the other stuff he came up with. Anyway, all these life experiences brought him here to Macon and the one man who's been by his side the whole time has been his tag partner Bobby Roode, who now joins Storm in the ring. Big chant for Roode, who gives Storm his "I'm going to turn heel on you tonight" smile, but an oblivious Storm says that Roode got screwed at Bound For Glory and promised him the first shot at the title, but also promised his little girl he'd bring the belt home so she could wear it at Chuck E. Cheese. Roode says he owes Storm for all the success he's had because they were both struggling as singles wrestlers, but became an overnight success as a team and one of the greatest teams in the history of the business. Storm came up with the names, the merch ideas, and brought something out of Roode he couldn't bring out on his own. Roode was the happiest man on the planet when Storm beat Kurt Angle, but he's got another opportunity tonight and he's damn sure going to bring it because he knows Storm will. Roode wants to do what they've been doing for four years, and that's steal the show and blow the roof off this son of a bitch (I assume he means the arena), and whoever walks out with the title will be the better man.

Tonight, Jeff Jarrett & Bully Ray face Ken Anderson and Jeff Hardy (who gave Anderson a concussion and put him on the shelf for two months, but never mind that), and Ronnie from Jersey Shore will be here! Aren't you just dying with excitement?

Let's head to the ring for our opening match...

Knockouts Tag Team Title Match: Tara & Brooke Tessmacher vs Madison Rayne & Gail Kim

Karen Jarrett is still, inexplicably, in charge of the Knockouts division even though Immortal no longer holds any power in the company. Tara and Brooke's outfits really bring out the patriotic spirit in me, I must say. Madison and Tessmacher start us off, and Brooke and Tara tag in and out while cranking on Madison's arm. They give Madison a double gourdbuster, but Madison goes and tags out to Gail, who destroyed Tara last week, but Tara gets some revenge by unloading on her with clotheslines and a BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK BODYDROP. Madison tags back in, but Brooke again dominates her with clotheslines, and Gail yanks her off by the hair before she can do the stinkface. Gail with a hanging neckbreaker and then goes to a Dragon sleeper, then just palmstrikes Brooke in the face. I love the sadism, but easy on the face there. Brooke gets away and makes the hot tag to Tara, and she makes the moron move of turning her back to Tara to do the ass shaking standing moonsault and Gail blindsides her, but Brooke spears Gail out to the floor. Tara hits the Widow's Peak, but Karen Jarrett jumps up on the apron and distracts the referee while Gail Kim come in and hits Tara with Sole Food, allowing Madison to crawl over and pin Tara.

Winners and NEW Knockouts Tag Team Champions: Gail Kim & Madison Rayne

Gail Kim is already a champion all of two weeks after returning to TV. Good for her!

Our newest main eventer, Garrett Bischoff, says that he knows his dad wants an apology, so he's going to go out there and apologize to his dad tonight. YAY!

Garrett Bischoff comes out to agonize over the situation with his dad, and he wants his dad to come out so he can apologize face to face. Easy E comes out with his "I knew all those beatings as a kid would do him right" face on as we prepare to advance our top storyline. Garrett tells the old man he's sorry he didn't live up to his expectations and let him down at Bound For Glory, and he's really, REALLY sorry he didn't grow into the man he wanted him to be. (to which Eric replies "There's always hope") Garrett says the thing he's really sorry about is that he didn't do this years ago, and he suckerpunches his dad and drills him in the face until Ric Flair and Gunner come running out to make the save. Garrett looks really pleased with himself as hebacks up the ramp and his dad yells "HOW DARE YOU, YOU SON OF A BITCH?" I assume he's not referring to himself.

Samoa Joe comes up to Sting backstage and asks if he needs help with anything, then says he wants to show his appreciation for the shot he got last week. Sting says he's welcome, but Joe says if he doesn't get the respect he deserves, people around here have a way of getting hurt, and asks if Sting understands him. Sting says he's got it and Joe leaves, and then Eric Bischoff and Ric Flair come up to Sting and says they made sure to have ironclad contracts so Sting couldn't fire them, so now they want Garrett in the ring for a match and says that he'll give him the right to rewrite his contract if he does. Sting proves himself the best wrestling administrator ever when he says he'll talk it over with Garrett before making a decision.

Christopher Daniels is walking around backstage raving about his wins over AJ Styles that never happened and reiterates the trickery AJ tried using, and says that he won because he walked out and AJ didn't. He wants shots at the TV Title and World Title (yes, really), and says he even beat RVD last week. RVD walks up behind him looking really pissed off as Daniels denies needing a screwdriver to beat Bob Van Dam, and then Daniels turns around and Bob kicks his ass until Daniels turns tail and runs, and RVD says he'll see him at Turning Point.

Time for our next match...

X Division Champion Austin Aries vs Jesse Sorensen

I don't believe the title is on the line here. Sorensen gets a series of quick rollups for 2 counts early on as Kid Kash joins Mike Tenay and Taz on commentary, and he's sick of that little punk Jesse Sorensen being in his dressing room and ring. Aries suckerpunches Sorensen and sends him to the ropes for a crushing back elbow and then comes off the ropes for a high impact leaping elbowdrop for 2. Aries sets for the brainbuster but gets backdropped to the floor, Sorensen goes for a slingshot dive to the floor, but Aries moves and Sorensen crashes hard, then Aries goes back into the ring and would have torn right through Sorensen with a high impact dive through the ropes if the guardrail didn't stop them. They go back in and Aries takes Sorensen down with a uranage and the power drive elbow gets him 2. Sorensen comes back with a pair of high knees and a dropkick for 2, but misses a dive off the ropes. Aries hits the kick to the head and the IED in the corner, but foregoes a brainbuster to hit a second IED as Kash yells at Aries to kick his face in. Aries goes for the brainbuster, but Sorensen small packages Aries and gets 3.

Winner: Jesse Sorensen

Yeah, so I guess the title wasn't on the line. Good match, and it actually told a good story where Sorensen kept making mistakes by trying to go for these big dives, but Aries got too cocky and Sorensen caught him. Aries meets Kash on his way to the back and they head off together to plan their revenge on Sorensen.

Robbie E and Rob Terry are backstage, and they're...WALKING!

James Storm and Bobby Roode are backstage talking about how they hate to fight each other, but the World Title means that much to them, then we go out to the ring where Robbie E and Rob Terry come out and tell Ronnie to come out and face them, bro. Ronnie comes out with the TV Title around his waist and Eric Young, who has the Global Title on him (or the other way around, I don't really care). Robbie doesn't know why Ronnie is hanging out with Eric Young, but he's waited a long time to come face to face with him. He wants to tell him his show sucks and (he hides behind Rob Terry for this one) that Ronnie sucks. He's not afraid because he's taken out bigger and badder guys than him, and he can kick his ass anytime he wants. Ronnie says how about right now, but Robbie says no deal and tells Ronnie to pack his bag and get out of here before he punches him out like the Situation did. Ronnie spears Robbie E, but Rob Terry nails him and then lays Young out. Terry holds Ronnie in a front facelock and Robbie pulls his shirt up so he can whip him with his belt. They clear out, and Eric Young says it's weird and uncalled for that Robbie whipped Ronnie with his belt, but they're big TV stars, so after he clears it with Sting, it'll be Eric Young and Ronnie against Robbie E and Rob Terry next week. They really don't want me to come back after tonight, do they? And before you try and sell me on Ronnie's star power being a big deal for Impact, please email me if ANYBODY you know says "Hey, I gotta check out this Impact Wrestling show...they're going to have Ronnie from Jersey Shore on!"

Time for some more WRESTLING!

Bully Ray & Jeff Jarrett vs Jeff Hardy & Ken Anderson

Okay, so Jeff Jarrett is apparently a member of Immortal this week. Hardy and Bubba start us off and Bubba immediately starts unloading with that hard hitting offense, but Hardy catches him with a fliying headscissors, the double legdrop to the cajones, and a diving dropkick to the face. Bubba just socks him and tags Jarrett in, and he starts unloading on Hardy with right hands. Hardy with a spinning back kick and a clothesline, but Karen trips Hardy from the outside and Jarrett puts the boots to him. Bubba yells "come on, you friggin' drug addict!" at Hardy while putting the boots to him and then comes off the ropes with a splash for 2. Jarrett comes in for the Boss Man straddle on the second rope, but Hardy hits a back suplex and makes the hot tag. Anderson cleans house on Bubba and gets a rolling neckbreaker for 2, then Hardy springs off Anderson for Poetry In Motion on both opponents. Anderson and HArdy go up for dual Swantons, but Scott Steiner runs out and knocks Anderson off the ropes to cause a DQ.

Winners: Jeff Hardy & Ken Anderson by DQ

Steiner rams Hardy into the guardrail, then sends him into the ring where Bubba lays him out with his chain and then hits a Bubba Bomb on Anderson while Jarrett gives Hardy the Stroke.

Sting catches up with Garrett Bischoff backstage and presents Eric's request that Garrett get into the ring and face an opponent of his choosing so that if Garrett wins, Sting gets to rewrite his contract. When you actually lay it out like that, it actually sounds like a really stupid deal since Garrett stands to gain NOTHING by doing this. But this is Impact Wrestling, and nobody's allowed to have a brain here, so he says he'll do it and then, when Sting says "No, this was a bad idea, forget I said anything," Garrett begins actually begging Sting to let him fight an unnamed opponent for someone else's gain, so Sting says "Okay, you got it!" Who looks at this crap and think it will make for good TV? No wonder the rest of the world thinks wrestling fans are idiots.

Matt Morgan comes to the ring and calls Crimson out, and Morgan says they stood together against Samoa Joe, but now he gets hundreds of messages on Twitter asking him if he can beat Crimson. He's worked his ass off to become a main eventer in this company that he loves (until WWE comes along offering him a better contract), but he gets off on competition and wants to give the fans the dream match they're looking for: Crimson, the irresistible force, taking on Matt Morgan, the immovable object. Crimson says this has been blowing up his Twitter too, and he says his winnig streak can't be the real deal until he takes out everybody in his path, including Morgan. He's going to see Morgan's challenge and face him at Turning Point.

Another Storm-Roode video package, and then it's main event time!

World Title Match: James Storm vs Bobby Roode

They do some basic chain wrestling to start, but Roode catches Storm with a back elbow and a snapmare, but misses a kneedrop, Storm repeats the snapmare/kneedrop combo with the same result, they trade legsweeps, and nothing for either man. They trade wristlocks and Roode scores with an armdrag as we go to commercial.

We're back and Storm is ramming shoulders into Roode's ribs in the corner. They start chopping the hell out of each other and Roode snapmares Storm, but Storm dodges the Perfect Necksnap and Storm covers for 2. Storm with the Neverending Story clotheslines in the corner, but Roode runs him over with a hard running clothesline. Roode goes to the top rope and Storm nails him, then hits a big superplex and both men are down in the middle of the ring as the referee starts his count. They make it to their knees and start exchanging right hands, but Storm gets the momentum and takes Roode out with a series of clotheslines and a BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK BODYDROP. Roode boots Storm in the face and comes off the ropes with a Blockbuster for 2, he backdrops Storm to the apron but Storm hits an enziguiri and comes off the top rope with a flying bodypress, Roode rolls through but only gets 2. Storm counters the Perfectplex to a lungblower for 2. Storm goes for Eye Of The Storm, but Roode escapes and hits a spinebuster for 2. Storm clotheslines Roode and they both tumble over the top rope to the floor, but beat the count back in. Roode gets the Crippler Crossface out of nowhere and Storm almost taps out, but reaches for the ropes so Roode catches the other arm and gets the Rings of Saturn instead. Storm gets his foot over the bottom rope anyway to force the break, but Roode puts him on top for a superplex of his own. Storm blocks and gives Roode a top rope gourdbuster and then gets a flying elbow off the top for 2. Storm sets up for the superkick, but Roode blocks and goes for the Perfectplex, Storm blocks and the referee gets bumped to the floor. Storm hits an inverted lungblower to send Roode out to the floor as well where we see the referee clutching his knee in pain. Roode looks over at the stairs and sees Storm's beer bottle, probably thinking as I am that he could use a drink or two after tonight's episode of Impact. Instead, Storm comes over to grab Roode and Roode breaks the bottle over his head to knock him out and make the cover. The referee rolls back into the ring and somehow doesn't notice the shards of glass all over the mat and counts three, carefully avoiding slapping his hand on the broken glass he doesn't see.

Winner and NEW World Champion: Bobby Roode

Wow, Hogan and Bischoff sure swerved us! Roode spits on the broken form of James Storm and plants his foot in his chest as he holds the title belt up in victory. Can't wait to see next week after the awesome show I just watched! This show was absolutely atrocious, and consider yourself lucky if you didn't waste two hours of your life on it.

2012 - WWE broadcast Saturday Night Slam.  Richard Trionfo filed the following TV report:

Welcome to the latest episode of Saturday Morning Slam.

We celebrate Dia De Los Muertos so we will be seeing some lucha libre action in our opening match.

Match Number One: Sin Cara versus El Local

The lights go down and they lock up. Cara is backed into the corner but Cara uses the ropes for an arm drag. Cara with handsprings and El Local goes to the apron. El Local with a waist lock but Cara with a flying mare. Cara uses the ropes again for an arm drag. El Local puts Cara on the turnbuckles but Cara with a head scissors.

El Locla goes to the floor and he moves when it looks like Cara is going to dive to the floor but Cara bounces off the ropes and then he hits a corkscrew pescado onto El Local. Cara returns to the ring. El Local finally returns to the ring. El Local with a spinning side slam for a near fall. El Local with a hard Irish whip.

El Local with a waist lock on Cara but Cara gets back to his feet. Cara with a wheelbarrow arm drag and El Local goes to the floor one more time. We go to commercial.

We are back and El Local with another waist lock. El Local with an Irish whip but he runs into an elbow from Cara. Cara with a flying arm drag and he gets a near fall. El Local with a waist lock and then he hits Sole Food to the chest and gets a near fall. El Local continues to work on the midsection with the waist lock.

Cara escapes and then hits a springboard cross body. Cara with a head scissors take down and then he stomps on the hand to set up the climb the ropes arm drag. Cara is sent to the apron and he connects with a shoulder to the midsection and then he hits a slingshot corkscrew splash followed by a springboard swanton for the three count.

Jigsaw & Fire Ant vs Arik Cannon & Pinkie Sanchez

Fire Ant and Cannon start us off with a feeling out process in the middle of the ring. They exchange a few wristlocks and Fire Ant takes Cannon down to the mat, but Cannon shows surprising agility by handspringing back to his feet. Fire Ant maintains control, however, holding onto the wrist until Cannon drills him in the jaw with a forearm. Fire Ant does a double or triple springboard off the ropes and armdrags Cannon, but Cannon quickly dumps Fire Ant out to the floor before Jigsaw slips in and dumps Cannon as well. Pinkie comes in to face off with Jigsaw, so I guess tags aren't necessary here, and Pinkie goes for a test of strength, but it was just a ploy to lure him in so he could kick Jigsaw in the midsection and get an advantage. Jigsaw doesn't stay in trouble for long, taking Pinkie back down to the mat with the wrist and applies a sort of standing Rings of Saturn. Pinkie makes it to the ropes and then takes Jigsaw down with a double leg. He tries a figure four, but Jigsaw manages to squirm out of the hold and then he comes off the ropes with a forearm. Jigsaw with Pinkie in the Gory Special and really goes deep on the hold, sliding him far enough forward that he turns it into a backslide and gets 2. Fire Ant back in, and he gets a snapmare and a series of sentons for 2. Jigsaw comes back in and puts Pinkie down to the mat with a chop, then whips Pinkie to the corner and charges in. Pinkie leapfrogs Jigsaw, leapfrogs him a second time, and gets kicked out to the floor. Cannon comes right in and hammers Jigsaw with a chop in the corner, then gets a snapmare and charges in with a baseball slide to the back for 2. Cannon brings Jigsaw back to the DUF corner and tags in Pinkie, and then put Jigsaw down with a double hiptoss before Cannon kicks Pinkie in the breadbasket and uses him as a weapon by giving Pinkie a Death Valley Driver onto Jigsaw. That was unique. Jigsaw makes a break for the corner and gets cut off by Cannon, who ties him up in a straitjacket hold. Pinkie comes back in and whips Jigsaw to the ropes, but Jigsaw holds onto the top rope and pulls himself out of the ring, allowing Fire Ant to come in and clean house with some high flying lucha offense. He dropkicks Cannon out to the floor and then wipes him out with a running dive as Jigsaw dropkicks Pinkie in the ring for 2. Pinkie holds the ropes to block an O'Connor Roll, but Fire Ant gets a Stunner and Jigsaw with a German suplex for 2 on Pinkie. Cannon comes back in and drills Fire Ant into the mat with a pop-up brainbuster, but only gets 2. Fire Ant blocks a Saito suplex and comes out behind Cannon, but Cannon picks Fire Ant up like he's going to give him an atomic drop, but just tosses him ass-first into the corner. Pinkie makes Jigsaw about three inches shorter with a nasty looking DDT, but Fire Ant manages to break up the pinfall attempt at 2. Pinkie with a Burning Hammer on Fire Ant, but he makes a lazy cover and blows what surely would have been the end for Fire Ant. Pinkie goes to the top rope and comes off with a double stomp, but Fire Ant moves out of the way and Pinkie runs right into a missile dropkick from Jigsaw. Jigsaw immediately gets turned inside out by a clothesline from Cannon, but Fire Ant knocks Cannon out to the floor and then Fire Ant double stomps Pinkie into a sort of assisted Jig and Tonic for the upset win.

Winners: Fire Ant & Jigsaw

I really didn't expect the DUF to lose this one, but things get worst for them as the Scene runs in to beat the DUF down. The beating continues until Marti Belle runs in, and Cannon chases the entire Scene crew off before coming back to check on Pinkie. He picks Pinkie up over his shoulder, grabs his beer, and they head back to the drawing board.

Samuray Del Sol vs Akira Tozawa

These two go right to the mat, as Del Sol takes Tozawa down and ties him up in a figure four. Tozawa quickly gets to the ropes to force a break, then he takes Del Sol down with a snapmare and goes to a chinlock. Del Sol quickly scurries to the ropes to force the break, and we're back at a stalemate. Del Sol shoves Tozawa, Tozawa responds with a forearm to the jaw, and Del Sol responds to that with a pair of dropkicks that make Tozawa backpedal to the corner. Del Sol is pissed now, and stuarts putting the boots to Tozawa before getting a slingshot 450 from the apron for 2. Del Sol hammers a forearm into the skull of Tozawa before delivering a butterfly suplex and catching Tozawa in a cross armbreaker on the way down. Tozawa makes it to the ropes and Del Sol tries coming off the second rope, but Tozawa falls to his back and gets his knees up, and Del Sol comes right down on the knees and is promptly disposed of out to the floor by Tozawa. Tozawa goes out after Del Sol and now takes the fight back to Del Sol, ramming him into the ringpost and then standing on his face before rolling him back inside and covering for 2. Tozawa with a charging forearm in the corner and tries another cover, but still only gets 2. Tozawa with a full bodyslam and a senton in the middle of the ring that gets 2. Del Sol tries a charge, but runs right into a forearm from Tozawa. Tozawa tries to grab Del Sol, but Del Sol suddenly pops into the air and lays Tozawa out with an unassisted Sliced Bread #2. Del Sol is on the offense now, firing a series of forearms at Tozawa and popping him over with a Dragon suplex for 2. Del Sol slowly picks Tozawa up, but Tozawa suddenly pops to his feet and powers Del Sol over with a vertical suplex. Tozawa tries to go to the top rope, but Del Sol connects with a leaping enziguiri and does the most visually stunning move I've seen so far this weekend by leaping off the top rope, twisting in midair, and catching Tozawa in a victory roll off the top rope for 2. They go out to the apron where Tozawa throws some forearms at Del Sol, but Del Sol superkicks Tozawa and tries a suplex, but Tozawa blocks and bicycle kicks Del Sol before German suplexing him on the ring apron. Del Sol comes down hard and with an audible thud before rolling out to the floor, and Tozawa sets up for a charge, but runs into a leaping enziguiri from Del Sol. Del Sol gets back up on the apron, but Tozawa boots him right back down to the floor and wipes him out with two consecutive dives through the ropes. They head back inside and slowly get to their feet, trading forearms in the middle of the ring before trading big boots and superkicks. Tozawa comes out on top of that exchange and pulls Del Sol to his feet, but then they knock each other silly with simultaneous bicycle kicks. Tozawa still gets to his feet first and throws several forearms, but Del Sol springs off the ropes with an inverted Frankensteiner for 2.999999999. Del Sol tries another Sliced Bread #2, but Tozawa shoves Del Sol off to the corner and bicycle kicks him in the back of the head and hits a German suplex for 2. A second one gets 2 again, so Tozawa hits the straitjacket suplex and finally puts Del Sol down for 3.

Winner: Akira Tozawa

Great match, I liked how intense it became as they both got pissed off and tried to kick the crap out of each other. Tozawa goes to shake Del Sol's hand, but then lays him out with a jab to the face before walking off laughing.

Jon Davis comes out for a promo and says he's not dressed to wrestle because he took Johnny Gargano out last night, but Gargano's music hits and the Open The Freedom Gate Champion himself comes out of the back in his own street clothes with a referee in tow, and it looks like Davis is going to be wrestling after all!

Anything Goes: Jon Davis vs Johnny Gargano

Davis nails Gargano before he has a chance to do anything and repeatedly rams his injured back into the ring apron. Davis rolls Gargano into the ring to officially start the match, and he takes Gargano out with a short clothesline for 2. Gargano's in a real bad way, and Davis comes off the ropes with a huge lariat and covers Gargano for the easy win.

Winner: Jon Davis

I had a feeling this was the kind of match we were going to see after what happened between them last night, I just didn't expect Davis to squash Gargano in under a minute. That's a pretty big deal. Davis takes a couple of chairs out from under the ring and sets up a table at ringside, but the referees quickly hustle what's left of Johnny Gargano to the back before Davis can cause any more damage.

Davis takes his time heading to the back, and suddenly Gargano leaps out of nowhere and dives onto Davis, then drills him with several chairshots. Davis shrugs the attack off and unloads on Gargano with some forearms, but Gargano starts firing right hands back at Davis and rolls him into the ring. Gargano looks determined to put a hurting on Davis, but Davis kicks him low and goes for an Awesome Bomb. Gargano slips out the back and shoves Davis out to the ring apron, and goes back after him with another flurry of punches. Davis grabs Gargano by the throat and chokeslams him, but Gargano pops right back up and superkicks Davis off the apron and through the table Davis set up at ringside.

Even after slowing Davis down for the time being, Gargano is still in a real bad way and has to be helped to the back a second time. The referees show some poor judgment by going to check on Davis as he slowly gets back to his feet, and the camera is staying on them a little too long for me to believe this scene will end uneventfully. Davis finally is up and shoves one of the referees into the barricade before slowly hobbling to the back, as it appears that the predator has been wounded.

Super Smash Brothers vs Ricochet & Rich Swann

Ricochet gets the microphone before the match and tells the SSB to hold their 16 bit asses up, because he wants to tell CIMA and AR Fox to watch this match and see what a great tag team looks like. Ricochet starts off with Uno and they have a somewhat cautious feeling out process before Ricochet suckers Uno with a sole butt, but then he whips Uno to the ropes and Uno takes him down with a shoulderblock. Ricochet kips right up, but Uno takes him out with a flying headscissors and they...throw Hadokens at each other. I guess that constitutes a stalemate, so Dos and Swann come in and trade headlocks, but Dos gets Swann back into his corner and Uno comes in to drop toehold Swann so Dos can come in with a kneedrop to the back of the neck that gets 2. Dos with a slingshot senton from the apron for 2, then a double double axhandle (quadruple axhandle?) from the SSB before Uno hits a legdrop for 2. Uno goes to the ropes but Swann drills him with a dropkick and makes the tag to Ricochet, who comes in with a slingshot senton for 2 on Uno. Uno is on his knees as Ricochet fires kicks into his chest before cradling Uno for 2. Ricochet gets Uno back to his feet and throws more kicks before coming off the ropes with a double axhandle of his own, followed by a standing shooting star press for 2. Ricochet tries to take Uno's mask off, but the referee stops that from happening, so Ricochet stands on Uno's back and jogs in place in what looks more like a comfortable massage than a painful offensive move. Uno tries some headbutts to Ricochet's abs in vain, and Swann comes in to hit a series of double teams on Uno, who is in deep trouble. Uno reverses a whip and charges Swann in the corner, but Swann gets the boot up and then gets in Dos' face so Ricochet can take a shot at Uno while the referee's back is turned. Ricochet gets Uno up in that sort of horizontal Gory Special that he does and seems to be struggling a bit, so Dos comes in and shoves him over to break it up. Ricochet takes a shot at Dos and delivers a double hiptoss and a double dropkick to Uno for 2. Uno suddenly catches Ricochet coming off the ropes and hits the swinging Flatliner, and makes the tag to Dos, who comes in and cleans house on Swann. Swann comes back with a superkick and several back elbows to Dos, then each simulataneously hits dives to the floor to wipe out each other's partners. Back inside we go as Dos hits a full rotation Dragon suplex for 2, Ricochet comes in and blindsides Dos, but he charges Dos in the corner and runs right into his boot. Uno spears Swann out on the ring apron and they both go down to the floor, but Ricochet sees what happens and wipes Uno out with a dive of his own. Back in we go, as Ricochet comes off the top rope with a crossbody, but Dos rolls through and hits a swinging faceplant for 2. Uno gets Swann in a fireman's carry while giving Ricochet a giant swing, and Dos baseball slides Ricochet as he comes around in the giant swing part. Swann takes them both out with a handspring into a Stunner, then Ricochet hits a double Ace Crusher for 2. Ricochet goes for the backslide driver, Uno blocks and Dos takes Ricochet out with a big boot, Swann dropkicks Dos, Uno flattens Swann with a clothesline, Ricochet nails Uno, and Dos gets a top rope splash on Ricochet for 2. Dos takes on both opponents, but gets overwhelmed and beaten down. Dos gets away and takes both of them out with a double Pelle Kick, then Uno monkey flips Ricochet into Swann, but a double team lungblower on Ricochet only gets 2 when Swann breaks up the cover. Swann pummels Dos in the corner with forearms and then Ricochet comes in with an IED, they put Dos on the top and take him out with a pair of leaping enziguiris, then Ricochet comes off the top with a shooting star press on Uno for 2. Ricochet is irate that he didn't get the fall and argues with the referee, but then Ricochet and Swann go up to the top rope for what is sure to be some devastating double team. Instead, Dos shoves Swann off the top rope and goes for a suplex on Ricochet. Uno comes over and picks Ricochet up on his shoulders to bait Ricochet into trying a crossbody so he can powerslam him off of Uno's shoulders. Dos takes Swann out with a dive to the floor as Uno moonsaults onto Ricochet, then they hit the double team lungblower on Ricochet and get the win.

Winners: Super Smash Brothers

There was a lot going on in that one, so I apologize if my play by play wasn't up to the usual standards. Big win for the SSB that they've worked their asses off to earn, and AR Fox comes out to the entryway to ask "Trevor" what happened. He says it looks like Trevor can't make the Billboard charts anymore, and tells him to watch the main event to see how a real high flyer does it.

Chuck Taylor, Drew Gulak & Orange Cassidy vs The Scene & Cheech

Cheech is the mystery partner for the Scene, while the Gentleman's Club has the swamp monster and also what appears to be a homeless veteran in a wheelchair in their corner. The homeless guy slips some kind of foreign object into Taylor's wristband before the match, as we start off with Scott Reed and Drew Gulak. Reed easily powers Gulak into the corner and breaks clean, then decides to tag Konley in and let him have a go, but Gulak apparently intimidates Konley, so he tags Cheech in instead. Cheech tags out to Konley, Konley tags out to Reed, and finally Reed powers Gulak into the corner and kicks him in the gut on the break. Reed goes for a Boston crab, Gulak rolls Reed through into a sitting cradle for 2, and Reed goes for another Boston crab but Gulak draws his legs in to prevent Reed from turning him and rolls forward into a pinning combination on Reed that gets 2. Reed has had enough and tags Konley back in, and this time he stays in as Gulak tags Cassidy in and he does the same dopey gimmick as last night. Konley kicks him in the midsection and unloads with a series of forearms, but Cassidy avoids all of Konley's offense by holding the ropes until finally catching Konley on a leapfrog attempt by countering to an inverted atomic drop. Konley blocks a vertical suplex and reverses to a delayed vertical suplex of his own, then tags Cheech in as Cassidy looks like he's going to puke in the ring. Cheech tells Cassidy to tag out to the homeless guy and then to the swamp monster, but he tags in Taylor instead. They do a goofy martial arts sequence before Taylor boots Cheech in the face and slowly climbs the corner, pausing for a nip of the ol' bird from the homeless guy, then feels a little unsteady and decides to leap off the bottom rope with a double axhandle instead. Taylor tags in Gulak and they hit a double back elbow before Cassidy staggers in and falls on Cheech for 2. Cassidy picks Cheech up and whips him to the corner, then the Gentlemen's Club take turns charging Cheech in the corner, with the swamp monster coming in last with a Tidal Crush. Taylor backdrops Cheech to the floor and then dumps the Scene and Larry Dallas into the corner to make it look like they're having a big orgy, then the swamp monster dumps Trina's face in the homeless guy's lap as he straddles her from behind. As all these shenanigans are happening, the Scene hits a double team powerbomb on Gulak that gets 2. Konley with a kneedrop to Gulak for 2, then he gets a rear chinlock as Orange Cassidy rallies the troops from the corner. Cheech tags in and goes right for a cover on Gulak, but only gets 2, so he gets Gulak in a Gory Special. Cassidy tries a dropkick but misses by a mile, so Cheech gets him in a Boston Crab while keeping Gulak in the Gory Special. Cheech and the Scene continue wearing Gulak down until Cheech and Konley run into each other because of miscommunication and nearly let Gulak get the tag because they spend too much time arguing. Gulak manages to get by them and make the hot tag to Cassidy...who just stands there in the corner until he realizes he was tagged in, at which point he comes in, takes a double shoulderblock, and rolls out the floor. Taylor comes in and cleans house, then Gulak takes Cheech out with a dive to the floor. Taylor goes for a dive, but Cassidy wanders in front of him and blocks him from doing the dive, then does a twisting springboard dive himself. The swamp monster takes someone else out, and Taylor goes to the top rope to go for a dive, but gets distracted by Trina, allowing Larry Dallas to shove Taylor off the top. Cheech goes up for a moonsault, but Cassidy pops up on the apron and spews...orange juice? I dunno, but it blinds Cheech and allows Taylor to hit the Awful Waffle on Cheech for the win.

Winners: The Gentlemen's Club

I dunno, I'm still not sold on the Gentlemen's Club. There's shenanigans that you can work into the flow of a match, but it seems like the Gentlemen's Club is determined to go so far over the top that it takes away from what they do and makes them look like a bunch of goofs. Larry Dallas starts yelling at Cheech for losing the match, but Marti Belle comes back in the ring and gets in Larry Dallas' face before laying a beating on Trina and flattening her with a Pedigree. It was whatever.

2 Out Of 3 Falls: El Generico vs Sami Callihan

Generico and Callihan slowly approach each other in the middle of the ring and have words before Callihan shoves Generico, Generico responds by drilling Callihan with a Yakuza kick in the corner, and they roll back and forth reversing a small package until Callihan comes out on top for 3.

Callihan: 1, Generico: 0

Generico seems shocked, but continues the assault on Callihan, unloading with forearms in the corner and taking Callihan over with a snapmare before locking him in a rear chinlock. Callihan gets up and takes Generico to the corner and piefaces him on the break, then kicks him in the gut and gets a hard bodyslam in the middle of the ring. Callihan drills Generico with a headbutt, and Generico fires a couple of shots back at him, but Callihan starts going to work on Generico's knee, taking him down with a single leg and tying up his leg with a grapevine. Callihan stomps the knee and then picks Generico up and chops him in the face, then he and Generico exchange headbutts in mid ring, but Generico goes down and Callihan swoops right in with repeated headbutts to Generico as he lays on the mat. Callihan goes for a cover but only gets 2, and Generico floats out to a front facelock on Callihan. Callihan gets back to his base and goes for another small package, but Generico gets out at 2 this time. Callihan appears to be getting in Generico's head, as Generico backs off and kind of freezes as Callihan charges in and nails him, then springs off the bottom rope to stomp on Generico's knee. Callihan takes Generico out to the floor and rams him headfirst into the barricade, then picks him up and rams his knee into the ringpost. Generico hops away from Callihan on one leg, but Callihan's legs both work and he's easily able to catch up to him and send him back inside for more punishment. Callihan gets a modified spinning toehold and then rolls Generico over into a modified version of the Indian Deathlock with anklelock thrown in to boot. Generico makes it to the ropes, but Calihan goes right back to the knee after the break, twisting it around the middle rope while stomping at the leg. Callihan picks Generico up and goes for a vertical suplex, but Generico keeps a low base, so Callihan changes course and picks him up and bodyslams him toward the edge of the ring so Generico's legs hit the ropes on the way down. Callihan goes for another cover and again only gets 2, so Callihan throws Generico out through the ropes, and Generico comes down on his bad knee and appears to be in trouble. Generico slowly makes his way back in, and Callihan simply waits for Generico so he can grab him and toss him right back out the other side of the ring, and quickly follows up with a high velocity dive through the ropes. Callihan rolls back inside and lets the referee count, but Generico makes it back in a second time, so Callihan throws him back outside yet again and this time follows him out. Callihan and Generico trade shots on the floor and Callihan nearly caves Generico's chest in with a chop, but Generico blocks a suplex and counters with a suplex of his own, dumping Callihan right onto the timekeeper's table. Luckily, it was one of those light plastic tables and was a lot cushier than your run of the mill wooden table, so Callihan was able to roll back inside just before the 20 count. Generico goes for a Yakuza kick on Callihan in the corner, but Callihan moves out of the way and charges in with a facewash on Generico. Callihan measures Generico, then charges in with a second facewash. Generico is in bad shape as Callihan spits at him, and Generico catches Callihan charging in and tries a suplex, but Callihan reverses to a suplex of his own. Generico suplexes Callihan into the corner on the second try, and after the bad knee gives him a bit of trouble hitting the brainbuster, Generico hits the move on the second attempt and ties the match up.

Callihan: 1, Generico: 1

Generico goes for the kill and picks Callihan back up and hits a Blue Thunder Driver for 2. He takes too long picking Callihan back up and telling the fans he was going for another brainbuster, and Callihan is able to recover and pick Generico's leg out from under him and hook Generico in a figure four right in the middle of the ring. Generico uses his long body to make it to the ropes and force the break, and Callihan tries to go up top but Generico popped right back to his feet and nails Callihan with a Yakuza kick that sends him plummeting out to the floor. Generico goes to the top rope and comes off with a crossbody, and he rolls Callihan back inside and goes to the top again, but Callihan comes up and tries to hit the top rope brainbuster. Generico blocks and knocks Callihan off the ropes and puts him in his own stretch muffler. Callihan nearly taps, but counters to a stretch muffler of his own. Generico tries to roll out, but Callihan rolls through with him and scissors the body, and Generico is left with no choice but to tap out.

Winner: Sami Callihan

Great match, and I'm glad to see Callihan get a big win like this since we often see him losing matches that could get him over the hump. Callihan says he was waiting a long time for this win after being suspended for five shows, then he tells the cameraman to zoom in and look in his eyes when he says this, because it doesn't matter whether it's Dragon Gate USA or EVOLVE, tonight was the first step of Sami Callihan becoming a champion.

Open The United Gate Title Match: CIMA & AR Fox vs Genki Horiguchi & Ryo Saito

Saito and Horiguchi start us off, as Horiguchi takes CIMA to the ropes and breaks clean. CIMA takes Horiguchi down with a drop toehold and goes to an armbar, but Horiguchi armdrags out and CIMA rolls him into a crucifix for 2. Horiguchi catches CIMA with a clothesline and whips him to the corner, but CIMA leapfrogs and nails Horiguchi with a dropkick, so Horiguchi tags in Saito. Saito doesn't fare much better, absorbing several kick from CIMA before Fox tags in and knocks Saito to the floor with a dropkick. Fox quickly goes out to the apron and wipes Saito out with the kick flip, then rolls him back inside and covers for 2. CIMA and Fox with a double dropkick on Saito, then CIMA goes to a surfboard and then changes that to...something I just can't identify. CIMA finally gets bored pulling out weird submission holds and rolls Saito up for 2, then gets a wristlock and fires kicks at the arm until Saito catches his foot and drags him over to Horiguchi, who tags in and gets tosses across the ring by his dreadlocks by CIMA. Fox tags back in and connects with an elbow to the back of the neck, then hits a twisting split legged senton for 2. Fox gets an abdominal stretch on Horiguchi, then CIMA comes in and fires off more kicks before leg whipping Horiguchi and putting him in a figure four stump puller and rolling him to his back for 2. Fox ties Horiguchi up in a rear chinlock and shows no sign of a knee injury from last night as he pops back to his feet and stomps Horiguchi before putting him back in the abdominal stretch. The champions are trying to take Horiguchi apart limb by limb, but Horiguchi gets out and tries to set Horiguchi up for the fabric trick they did last night, but CIMA nails Saito and gets the fabric, then uses it on Horiguchi instead. Now it's Saito's turn, as the fabric slaps him in the face like it did his partner, and the challengers are in deep trouble here as they've gotten almost no meaningful offense. CIMA gets a drop toehold on Horiguchi and gets an elevated surfboard while holding onto Horiguchi's dreadlocks. CIMA and Fox get a double slingshot suplex on Horiguchi for 2, and Horiguchi finally manages to get some offense by dropkicking Fox's knee out from under him while Saito knocks CIMA off the apron.

Saito drags Fox to the ropes and springs off the bottom rope and right onto Fox's knee and covers for 2. Saito ties Fox's leg around the apron so Horiguchi can dropkick it, then Saito just grinds the heel of his boot into Fox's leg before Horiguchi drags Fox out to the middle of the ring and gets a seated half crab. Saito comes off the top rope with a double stomp to Fox's gut while Horiguchi still has him in the hold, and a quick series of double teams gets another 2 count on Fox. Fox gets Sliced Bread #2 on Saito and then a springboard Ace Crusher on Horiguchi, and he finally manages to tag CIMA, who comes in and cleans house on both challengers before chasing them outside so Fox can hit a springboard forward rolling 450 to the floor. CIMA and Saito come back inside where CIMA connects with a series of kicks and a back senton, then he springboards out of the corner and double stomps Saito for 2. Saito blocks the 2K1 Bomb and gets a series of rolling fisherman's suplexes before hitting a fisherman driver for 2. Saito goes to the top, but CIMA hits the Venus punch and Iconoclasm, then Fox comes off the top with a splash on Saito for 2. Horiguchi with a dropkick to Fox, but Fox gets a spinning enziguiri to Saito and the rolling DVD to Horiguchi for 2. Horiguchi blocks Sliced Bread #2 and pops Fox in the air for a high angle German suplex from Saito that gets 2. Horiguchi suplexes CIMA and Saito comes off the top with a splash for 2, then gets a release Dragon suplex on CIMA, followed by a tornado DDT from Horiguchi, then a bridging half nelson suplex from Saito gets 2 on CIMA. CIMA superkicks Saito and hits the Schwein, but Saito kicks out at 2. CIMA hits a lungblower on Saito and holds him there so Fox can come off the top with a 450, then a series of charges in the corner spell trouble for Horiguchi, then they sit Horiguchi on the top rope so Fox can hit the springboard Spanish Fly before hitting a dive to the floor on Saito so CIMA can hit Meteora on Horiguchi and get the win.

Winners: CIMA & AR Fox

Tons of action and some pretty innovative stuff in that one, but CIMA and Fox were so in control of most of this match that Saito and Horiguchi didn't come off like very credible challengers. CIMA says that since he's the Open The Dream Gate Champion, Fox needs to win the Open The Freedom Gate Title so they can be the best in Dragon Gate. Sami Callihan comes out and says he doesn't understand a word CIMA said, but he's going to beat him tomorrow night and win the Open The Freedom Gate Title. Fox says that Callihan will have to go through him if he wants to win any titles here, and Callihan gives him the death stare, but leaves without incident. CIMA says he doesn't understand what Callihan said because his English is no good, but he's feeling giving tonight because he lets Fox ask the fans if they enjoyed the show and say they'll see them next time.

Good wrestling on this show, but other than the Jon Davis-Johnny Gargano segment and the Generico-Callihan match, there wasn't really anything on this show that jumped out to me as must see. It was good, but last night's show is the better of the two if you really want to see a show that'll knock your socks off.
