2002 - WWE broadcast Confidential.  John Keane filed the following TV report:

Confidential Report for 10/19/2002.

Recorded at the WWE TV Studios in Stamford CT.
Your Host: Mean Gene Okerlund.

Gene says howdy and quickly gets down to business. He reminds us that last Thursday the first episode of ‘Tough Enough 3’ aired. Later on TE head honcho John ‘Big’ Gaburick will be joining Gene in the studio to talk about the new season.

Subject turns to the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Tomorrow night at the No Mercy PPV IC champ Kane will face World Champion HHH in a title unification match; after the show the IC strap will be retired. This prefaces tonight's ‘Cover Story’, focusing on the long history of the IC title.

Gene reminds us that the original IC champ was WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, who defeated Ted DiBiase in the finals of a tournament held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

(Commentary: The Rio ‘tournament’ stands as one of the longest lasting works of WWE fiction. I don’t know all the details, but from all accounts the tourney never took place.)

Vintage footage of Pat rolls as Gerald Briscoe describes him as a great wrestling technician and a master of in-ring psychology.

Edge gets in more praise for Pat, citing his legendary ‘Boot Camp’ match with Sgt. Slaughter, also a cage match with Bob Backlund, both held at Madison Square Garden. He puts over Pat’s ability to ‘tell a story’ in the ring.

Quick clips roll of more recent IC champs-we see Kane, HHH, Chris Benoit, Chyna, Kurt Angle, The Ultimate Warrior, The Honky Tonk Man, Goldust, British Bulldog and Diesel. Kurt, Matt Hardy and WWE agent Bruce Prichard describe the IC title as a launching pad to a possible World title run.

Gerald states that most IC title holders have gone on to have a run with the World title. He lists some of his favorite IC champs: Don Muraco, Rowdy Roddy Piper (YES!), Greg Valentine and Tito Santana.

Matt mentions Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, feels their attainment of the IC title signaled the beginning of ‘their time’ in WWE.

Gerald feels the holding of the IC title has helped to elevate current stars to a higher level, cites Kurt in particular.

Kurt states his winning of the IC title felt just as important as his attainment of the WWE title.

Edge recalls sitting in his hotel room staring at the IC tile belt for a couple of hours after winning it for the first time.

Gerald praises men like HHH and Edge for elevating themselves to the level of IC champ.

Bruce describes the holding of the IC title as a ‘grooming’ for a possible World title run.

Edge and Gerald get in some praise for one of the greatest IC title matches of all time: Ricky Steamboat’s defeat of then-champ Randy Savage at Wrestlemania 3. Matt picks his faves as Razor Ramon’s defeat of Shawn Michaels in a ladder match at Wrestlemania 10, also mentions Bret’s defeat of Curt Hennig (sorry, no date mentioned).

Kurt seems to regret that the IC title will soon be retired. Bruce feels the merging of the IC and World titles is meant to ‘simplify’ things, giving the stars a single goal to strive for. Edge echoes Kurt’s sentiments, feels the absence of the IC title will create a ‘gap’. Matt regrets never getting a chance to hold the belt. Gerald closes things up by stating he’s also sad to see the IC title become a thing of the past.

Gene mentions Pat Patterson wasn’t able to participate in the segment due to being injured last Monday-he had his shoulder hurt while taking the ‘3 Minute Warning’ from Raw GM Eric Bischoff’s henchmen Rosey and Jamal. Gene wishes Pat a speedy recovery and we take a break.

Back, after a snippet of a video for the group Saliva performing their new song ‘Always’, Gene mentions the video will air in it’s entirety tomorrow night on the pre-PPV Heat. Gene reminds us that Saliva performed live at Wrestlemania 18, then informs us the group will have a new song on the soon to be released WWE ‘Anthology’ CD. Song’s title is ‘King of My World’ dedicated to former Undisputed Champion Chris Jericho.

After a clip of Saliva’s performance at WM 18, we cut to the band recording their song for Y2J. WWE Music Director Jim Johnston mentions he’s worked with Saliva before, during the XFL experiment and also while producing the WWE ‘Forceable Entry’ CD. Talk about the song follows, Chris only seems mildly excited, feels Saliva may one day reach the lofty heights of his band Fozzy. Snippet of ‘King of My World’ airs and we go to break.

Gene returns to remind us that occasionally in life, an incident may occur that, despite one’s better judgment, can’t help but be watched. This segues nicely into tonight’s ‘Confidential Flashback’…

As we view a cemetery, The Big Show mentions that, while many movies have filmed in sites of that variety, something different was destined to occur when WWE made use of the location. Overview of the story: Show’s dad had died, and the vile Big Boss Man took great pleasure in taunting the grieving Show as a disgrace his father legacy. Show issues unguarded praise for Boss Man’s portrayal of a despicable heel.

The story climaxed as Show’s dad was about to be buried. As Show prepared to deliver a eulogy, the Boss Man drove up in the Blues Brothers Bluesmobile, which had been equipped with a huge loudspeaker. After more taunting, Show went to attack, only to be tossed off the car’s hood as the Boss Man peeled out. As the rest of the funeral party attended to Show, the Boss Man produced a chain and attached the coffin to the back of the Bluesmobile. As Boss Man sped off Show recovered and jumped on the coffin, causing it to become unattached.

Show remembers watching the segment on TV with members of his family. Response wasn’t quite what he expected, his family reacted with laughter rather than shock. Show was at first angry, but after some thought decided it best to see the humor in the whole situation. Show ends the segment by stating there are more important things in life to be concerned about than a possibly tasteless wrestling angle. Break.

WWE Rewind: On last week’s Tough Enough 3 season debut, a contestant named Wendel appeared either unwilling or unable to participate in a workout. TE trainer Al Snow told him in ABSOLUTELY no uncertain terms that he was to shape up or ship out. While being looked over by a medic, Wendel groggily talked smack on Al.

Back, Gene welcomes John ‘Big’ Gaburick to the show. Big promises that this season’s TE will put an emphasis on the word ‘Tough’. Gene asks about the selection process used for this season. Big informs him that this year a total of 75 contestants were chosen out of 3 different regions (Denver, New Orleans and Chicago). Out of these, 21 were brought to train in L.A. Big reminds us that the selection processes utilized in the first 2 seasons were more showbiz-based affairs held in NYC and Las Vegas. Big feels this year’s selection process allowed for greater attention to detail. Gene asks about the trouble met in finding a home for this season’s show. After promising an exclusive on the subject for next weeks show, Big briefly mentions that a Malibu Beach resident who happens to be a star ‘on another show’ used his influence to keep the TE crew away from his home. Gene wants the name, and gets it-Big informs him that ‘Frasier’ star Kelsey Grammer was the one responsible for putting the kibosh on the Malibu-based season.

We very briefly see TE trainer Ivory hanging at the TE 3 house. Back to business-Gene mentions that at the end of last weeks show Big appeared extremely agitated. Big admits that a mistake may have been made choosing one of this season’s contestants, tells Gene he’ll have to check out next week’s show for more details. Gene wants to know what makes this season different from the 2 previous. Big states this season athleticism is the key attribute, rather pointedly voices his hope that all 13 of this season’s contestants are primarily athletes, rather than the ‘just a couple’ seen during TE 2. Hmm. Gene thanks Big for his participation and we take a break.

When we return, Gene presents a segment on the gent who seems to be becoming a regular on Confidential, Booker T. Book takes us on a tour of a shop he’s opened in Houston, the ‘JamZone’. Store sells a little bit of everything, clothes, footwear, music and games. No WWE merch for sale, at least not yet. After modeling some of the latest fashions, Book closes the segment by voicing his hope that the store makes a positive impact on the community.

Back to Gene, who mentions Booker’s entrance segment as a personal favorite. We follow up with some of the current WWE stars stating their personal favorite entrances:

1.     William Regal: Stone Cold Steve Austin.

2.     Billy Kidman: Shawn Michaels.

3.     Steven Richards: Gangrel (!).

4.     Albert: Another vote for Gangrel?

We briefly take a break to see a couple of the less illustrious entrances of all time, probably the most famous being the ill-fated debut of the Shockmaster in WCW. Poor guy decked out in a sparkly Star Wars stormtrooper helmet made his entrance by crashing through a wall and promptly falling flat on his face as the announcers chuckled.

Back to business…

5.     Chuck Palumbo: The Undertaker.

6.     Chavo Guerrero: ‘Taker also.

7.     Billy Kidman (again?): current favorite is Rey Mysterio.

8.     Hurricane: His tag partner, Kane.

9.     Rico: Kurt Angle.

We go straight to our final break.

Back, Gene reminds us that a couple of weeks ago Philadelphia Eagle Levon Kirkland appeared on the show to talk about his performance of the Booker T ‘stare at the hand’ pre-Spinaroonie gesture during a pre-season game. Looks like Spinaroonie-mania is running wild all over the world, Gene rolls tape of an English soccer player named Trevor Benjamin performing the move after scoring a goal-pretty damn well, especially considering it was done on grass! Sadly, Gene informs us Trevor was fined for ‘excessive celebration’.

Gene wraps up by informing us next week we’ll get a closer look at the TE house, and we’ll also get more details regarding Kelsey Grammer’s killjoy antics. Footage of Intercontinental Championship title matches from throughout the years brings the show to a close.

Good show this week, great segment on the IC title-seems like not very many people are happy about the belt being retired. Nice segment with John Gaburick also-seems to be very little need to have the ol’ ‘Bulls*** Detector’ handy when listening to the guy. And, of course, any show featuring the Shockmaster rates a thumbs up!

2002 - NWA Wildside taped TV in Cornelia, GA.  Larry Goodman filed the following TV report:

Slim J beat Jeremy Lopez to win the NWA Wildside junior title at last night's TV taping in Cornelia, Georgia. And yes, he's back, the heir to the throne vacated by AJ Styles. The green guy was revealed as the one and only Jason Cross. A meager gathering of 85 saw a good lead in show for the Fright Night Weekend on 11/1 and 11/2. A smaller house is not unusual for the last taping prior to a "big show." Still, it's got to be a concern when the crowd is so sparse that it affects the look and sound of the television product.

1) Derek Driver & Scott Cage beat Ken Scampi & Joe Brojoel in 4:15. This match will be remembered for one thing, Scampi's crash and burn dive. His foot caught the top rope on the way over. I could not see the impact from my vantage point, but he appeared to going head-first right into the floor like a lawn dart. It seriously looked like a Hayabusa type tragedy. Thankfully, Scampi came out of it OK. Scampi and Brojoel were trained by Mikey Whipwreck. Brojoel was a big guy, kind of like an Italian Roadkill minus the beard. Not a bad match but Scampi's near miss with paralysis took the crowd out of it. Driver and Cage started out on offense. Driver continues to improve. He landed an Asai moonsault to the face of Scampi. Cage also looked good here. He hit a fireman's carry into an Ace crusher. Brojoel sent Driver and Cage over the top with a double clothesline. This is where Scampi's attempt at a vaulting dive off Brojoel's back came up way short. The crowd went silent. Scampi went right on like nothing had happened. He hit a stunner on Cage. Finish was Driver hitting the Sliced Bread Number Two on Scampi. Good opener.

2) Onyx beat Jimmy Rave by DQ when Murder One attacked Onyx. Rave retained the NWA World junior title (2:53). They shook hand before the match and the first lock up lead to a clean break. They exchanged armdrags. Some really nice chain wrestling. They did the deal where Rave was not able to make Onyx release the headlock. Rave rolled through out of a wheelbarrow for a two count. Onyx got a sunset flip. Onyx did a stiff shoulder tackle. Onyx reversed Rave and hit the Blackout DDT. Rave rolled to the outside and Murder One hit the ring on Onyx. One hit the Zoolander on Onyx and put the boot to him. Rave picked a chair. One left the ring area but not before offering to beat Rave's bitch ass. Rave and Onyx shook hands again. Too bad this couldn't have gone longer.

3) Talent Exchange ("Premier Player" Johnny Curtis & "Broadway" Kenn Phoenix) (with "Talented" Dean Ripley) beat Fuzion (Mike Paiva & Blade) (with Mercedes) to win the PWF Northeast tag team titles in 11:10. PWF runs monthly shows in the Connecticut/Rhode Island area. These are four young guys with talent that just need more experience. Fuzion are two little guys who can fly. Curtis and Phoenix are tall and skinny. They need to fill out more before they will look like wrestlers. Mercedes has it in the looks department. She needs to develop presence at ringside but she can sure as hell take a bump. They had laid out a complex match with all kinds of moves. A little too choreographed in some spots but very entertaining. Curtis took a nice bump to the outside. Blade hit a beaty of a corkscrew senton (Space Flying Tiger Drop?). Paiva followed with an Asai moonsault. Back inside, Fuzion continued to work on Curtis. Paiva did a huracanrana. Talent Exchange cheated and took on a lousy superkick by Phoenix. Talent Exchange got heat on Paiva. Facebuster on Curtis to get the hot tag.

Quite a wild finishing sequence. Blade did a Roll of the Dice. Mercedes got in the ring for an awesome tornado DDT on Phoenix. Curtis punched Mercedes right in the face and laid her out with a backdrop driver. Fuzion did this tripped out double neck bridge submission on Phoenix. Curtis pulled somebody out, it might have been the ref. Paiva did a tornado DDT. Blade hit a moonsault and got pulled out by Curtis. While the ref was occupied with the battle on the outside, Ripley hit Paiva with his shoe and rolled Phoenix on top for the pin. Talented Exchange celebrated their title win, but not for long, as that familiar music played and out came...

Total Destruction (Sean Royal & Rusty Riddle) drove Talent Exchange out of the ring. They grabbed the PWF straps and invited TE to take them away. Talent Exchange looked like they were going to rush the ring, but they threw their manager in there instead. Whatever Ripley's talents are, taking bumps isn't one of them. The poor guy looked like he was going to s*** his pants. Total Destruction went to throw him over the top, and Ripley opted for a weak bump through the ropes instead.

Riddle addressed the Dobbins Brothers. He said Dobbins had been seeing a lot of Total Destruction's backs and now they were going to have to see their faces. Riddle wondered why their mama didn't teach them anything: not to play with snakes, not to play with matches and certainly not to screw with Total Damn Destruction. Royal said momma should have taught you boys that it ain't fair to hit from behind. He said it was right in The Ass Whipping Handbook. "Wrestling 101: Walk in like a man and get in my face". Royal promised to give the Dobbins a season's beatings at Fright Night.

Rick Michaels came to the ring with a roll of barbed wire. He said Rainman had nailed him twice with barbed wire knucks, so how about one more go round with barbed wire? Michaels wanted a barbed wire match at Fright Night, take down the ropes and string up barbed wire.

Jeff G. Bailey came to ringside with the NWA Elite (Iceberg, John Phoenix and Rainman). Bailey said Michaels had to be kidding. Hadn't he learned? Bailey said Rainman would butcher Michaels like a cadaver on an autopsy table. "Why not right now?" The Elite charged the ring and the lights went out ... Lights on and no Rick Michaels. Bailey looked frustrated at not getting to see his usual quotient of blood. Bailey said Rainman would eviscerate Michaels like a hog at Fright Night. Bailey demanded that somebody come out right now. He called for the man who "defeated" Stone Mountain (on a count out) to face Iceberg because he was the "number one contender." Out came Wildside's answer to the Brooklyn Brawler, Mike Harden.

4) Iceberg (with Bailey) beat Mike Harden to retain the NWA Wildside heavyweight title in 1:15. Iceberg no sold some pathetic offense from Harden. Iceberg crushed Harden with a belly to belly suplex and a sidewalk slam. One Ground Zero splash and it was sayonara. Rainman, Phoenix and Bailey all put the boots to Harden and dumped him like garbage. Stone Mountain came to ringside and Iceberg got right into his face. A hot pull apart ensued. Those huge men fighting around the small ringside area at Wildside with the whole dressing room trying to break it up made an impact. I believe this was the first time that they made people want to see the match, which will take place at Fright Night.

5) T-N-T (Todd Sexton & Tony Stradlin) beat Salvatore Rinauro & Kid Kool to retain the NWA Wildside tag team titles in 5:33. Stradlin came out rolling the camera the way Brian Pillman used to do in Hollywood Blondes. Those were the days. Salvatore "the Messiah who gets no highah" Rinauro came out solo. Rinauro offered to give T-N-T a warm-up match for the tag team tournament. He didn't want to disappoint all the "Salcaholics", so he introduced Kid Kool as his partner. No idea why Kool would trust Rinauro at this stage but out he came. Rinauro did some "fake" wrestling with Stradlin and tagged Kool. Stradlin and Kool did a blitz of reversals and counters, ending with a legweep and kick to the face by Stradlin. Kool came back with a flurry offense, but Stradlin hit a powerslam and made the tag. T-N-T destroyed Kool, while Rinauro watching with a look of glee. Sexton offense looked really impressive here. Kool used a flying crucifix for a near fall. Sexton took Kool's head off with a clothesline and Rinauro was laughing his ass off. T-N-T went for the cradle stuff piledriver. Kool broke it up by catapulting Sexton into Stradlin's gut. That spot looked pretty lame. Kool dropkicked Sexton and hit an elevated Flatliner. Both men down. Rinauro would not tag. Kool then made the tag to Rinauro while his back was turned. Rinauro tried to tag back but Kool jumped off the apron. Sexton laid Rinauro out with a superkick for the pin. Rinauro's pouting was hilarious as he beat up the turnbuckle and hurt his foot kicking the announcer's booth.

6) Slim J beat Jeremy Lopez to win the NWA Wildside junior title in around 11:15. I could watch these two wrestle at every show and not get bored. This was an excellent match. They started with back and forth chain wrestling. Slim ran out of a hammerlock and went to the outside. Lopez gave chase around and back inside. J backdropped Lopez to the floor and hit a running plancha with mucho hang time. That kid can fly. J rolled Lopez back inside for a near fall. J popped Lopez in the face with right hands. J hit a rolling lariat for another two count. Lopez came back with Air Raid Crash into a neckbreaker. J kicked out of two covers. Lopez with a brainbuster. Lopez applied the Gori special and J countered with a sunset flip for two. Lopez cut J off with a clothesline and a back cover for a two count. Lopez did a rolling La Tapatia and then stretched it even more with a rear chinlock. Lopez punished J with uppercut forearms. Lopez hit the Yakuza kick/neckbreaker combo for a good near fall. Lopez went for the Texas Cloverleaf and powerbombed J to lock it in. J strained for the ropes. Lopez twice dragged him back towards the center of the ring. Dramatic stuff. J finally got to the ropes to break the hold. J stayed down selling his back. Lopez covered but J kicked out. J hit a stunner and slowly followed up with a lateral press for a two count. J hit a killer wheelbarrow tiger suplex! Lopez countered J's Anger Management for a near a fall. "Ichiban" time. Lopez went for the elevated DDT. J blocked it the first time, but Lopez hit it on the second go round. 1 ... 2 ... J grabbed the ropes. Lopez tried to beat J with his own finisher, but J escaped and reversed Lopez to hit the Anger Management for the three count. Big pop for the title change. J asked if he could strap on the title belt before the probation officer put him back in the handcuffs.

7) Jeremy V & Jeff Lewis beat Swingers Inc. (Mikal Adrien & Scott Smooth) in 7:04. Lewis had some new gear and a more polished presence on his second TV taping appearance. Smooth is has moved up to Swinger #2 because Vincent Pain is out with the broken tibia he suffered at the last taping. Smooth was on the receiving end of some strikes early in the match, His selling was so over the top that it was ridiculous. Seem like every match, Swingers do something very gay. This time Smooth wound up humping Adrien. V & Lewis hit double superkicks on Adrien. Lewis did a senton dive. V hit a huracanrana. Adrien brought V off the ropes with a nice overhead suplex and did the "Oh my God" tag line. Swingers are risking running that line into the ground. Adrien hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Swingers worked on V, who knows how to sell. Adrien did a bump and grind legdrop. Swingers wishboned V for a double crotch headbutt for a two count. Adrien used a fallaway slam without a release for a near fall. Looked like he speared V with his head. V fought back with neckbreaker on Adrien to make the tag with Lewis. Finish saw Lewis connect with a missile dropkick on Adrien and V pinned Smooth.

8) Scottie Wrenn beat Jay Freeze on a count out in 1:55. Freeze was wearing some swank new ring gear. Freeze tried to jump Wrenn. Problem was, he couldn't do any damage. Wrenn rotated Freeze into a face first landing with a release German suplex, backdropped him on his face and kicked him right in the face. Way to work the body part. Wrenn used open hand slaps and chops. Wrenn leveled Freeze with a lariat and said it was time to go to school. Freeze was done. He walked up the ramp for the count out. A nice tease of what's in store for Future Shock when they run into Wrenn & Tank in the tag tournament.

9) Rick Michaels beat Brian Black in 4:13. Black also came in from the New England area indies. He will back for the Fright Night tournament as Dr. Heresy's partner in Mind N' Matter. Black got one comeback and that was it for his offense. Michaels used him as a stand-in for Rainman and beat the crap out him. Michaels dared referee Mike Posey to DQ him. Michaels gave Black that chair sandwich to the nuts that he's so fond of doing. Michaels scored a series of near falls. Black used a forearm to the back when Michaels telegraphed a backdrop and hit a clothesline for a two count. Michaels went back on the attack, leading to the Double Shot for the win. Rainman tried for a sneak attack with the barbed wire, but Michaels cut him off with a superkick. Michaels grabbed the barbed wire and calmly sliced his own forehead open.

John Phoenix entered the ring with Bailey. Phoenix was mad and he wasn't going to take it any more. He demanded that the Green Guy bring his ass into the ring immediately. The Green Guy came out on the ramp. In fact, there were four Green Guys spread around the corners of the building. Lights out ... Lights on and the green guy was in the ring. Phoenix went for a superkick. Green Guy blocked and hit the Clash. Green Guy clocked Bailey. Green Guy climbed to the top and hit the Shooting Star Legdrop. Guy pulled off the mask to reveal what everyone knew after that last move. Jason Cross was back, only larger than before ... and just as quickly, he was gone.

Bailey was enraged. He demanded that Cross-Phoenix match at Fright Night and there would be none of that lights out stuff. "Screw all you people, I hate your stinkin' guts."

10) Lost Boyz (Azrael & Gabriel) beat Devine Storm (Chris Devine & Quiet Storm) (with Trinity) to earn the last spot in the Fright Night tag team tournament (15:37). Not the top caliber Wildside main event they were hoping for here. There were some good things about this match, maybe too much stuff. Something was missing, too disjointed I guess. Started well and then kind of died midway through. Gabriel had gotten a new orange dye job since the last taping. Good technical start by Storm and Gabriel. In fact, it was good just about any time Storm and Gabriel were in the ring. They built from chain wrestling, to an exchange of huracanranas, to both missing with simultaneous dropkicks. Devine and Azrael tagged in. Devine hit a dropkick and Storm followed with a missile dropkick. Dive series next. Devine did a tope. Storm did a tope con hilo. Gabriel did an Arabian press to the outside. Trinity (a very athletic looking female) hit a moonsault to the floor. Lost Boyz came back to hit the Time Warp. All kinds of near falls between Gabriel and Storm. Storm hit a jackknife powerbomb. Storm got the Crippler Crossface and dropped Gabriel on his head with a back suplex, before missing on a top rope headbutt. Azrael did a reverse DVD on Storm and Devine made the save. Four way action. This was tough to track. Storm did super release German suplex and then missed on a moonsault. Lost Boyz hit the Fallen Arcadia on Storm. Devine saved again. Storm hit the Storm Cradle Driver on Gabriel, but Azrael saved with a kick to Storm's head. Ref bump when Azrael gave Andrew Thomas a leg lariat. T-N-T came out and dumped Azrael off the top rope. Good looking bump there. Trinity gave Sexton a huracanrana and Devine crotched Stradlin to take out T-N-T. Storm hit a brainbuster on Gabriel for a good near fall. Lost Boyz won it with the Excommunicator on Devine.

Post match turned into a cluster with T-N-T, Blackout, Jay Freeze, Scottie Wrenn and Rick Michaels all getting involved, along with three referees. Lost Boyz and Devine Storm did a classy holding the ropes for each other and handshake deal to close the show.

2003 - WWE holds their No Mercy Pay-per-view in Baltimore, Maryland. The show is especially notable for an "I Quit" match between Vince and Stephanie McMahon in which Vince promised to give up ownership of WWE if he lost, and Stephanie agreed to step down as General Manager of Smackdown if she lost. Stephanie lost, and would not appear on WWE programming (in a storyline sense, as she did attend the WWE Hall Of Fame events) until October 3, 2005. It is also interesting to note that the Maryland State Athletic Commission had a rule that prevented male vs. female wrestling matches, and WWE had to pay a fine (which they were prepared to do in advance) in order to have the match. Here is Tim Whitehead's original report on the show.

WWE's No Mercy was an easy thumb's up show from my perspective. It had some very strong matches, and some well-booked matches that enabled wrestlers to perform at levels above their nominal skill level. There was one weak match and one nonsensical McMahon family ego match, but that wasn't enough to hurt the show. And in the case of the McMahon match, it's fair to note that the crowd was big time into it. I continue to be impressed with Tazz & Michael Cole on the mic. The live crowd was hot for most of the show. This show made it clear that Smackdown has the goods when it comes to in-ring talent.

TAJIRI defeated REY MYSTERIO JR. to retain the Cruiserweight Title in 11:40. They made a big deal out of the fact that Tajiri is now spraying black mist, reporting that Nidia may have suffered permanent eye damage from being sprayed with the black stuff on Smackdown. The ref checked Tajiri's mouth before the match to see if he was carrying any of that stuff. Hey, ref, he pops it in later. They traded kicks early. Mysterio hooked a leglock, which Tajiri escaped. Tajiri unleashed the chops. Mysterio hit an armdrag and a low dropkick. He then kicked Tajiri out of the air as he was attempting a springboard elbow. Tajiri bumped out and Mysterio hit a plancha on him. Tajiri caused Mysterio to take a bump on his shoulder, and he began working on the shoulder to wear him down. Mysterio came back with a tornado DDT off the top and a springboard crossbody. Mysterio went for a crucifix but Tajiri dropped on him. Each guy was scoring some twos as the match progressed. Mysterio hit a huracanrana on Tajiri off the apron on the floor. Back in the ring, they did a cool spot where Tajiri threw Mysterio through the ropes but he swung back and hit the 619. Mysterio went for the West Coast Pop, but Tajiri blocked it and hit a powerbomb. The crowd was major into all this. Mysterio fought back and hit a second 619 and W.C. Pop, but as he was about to go for the pin, two disguised men in black came out of the crowd and charged the ring. One was stopped immediately, while the other made it into the ring before security grabbed him. The mystery men were Jimmy Yang & Keiji Sakoda, and this was an angle, though it was sold as if two "fans" had charged in. Mysterio was distracted, and Tajiri kicked him in the head and scored the pin. Great opening match!

Vince McMahon arrived at the arena and did an arrogant promo claiming it hurts him to have to fight his own daughter. He said he'll fire anyone from the locker room who tries to interfere to help Steph, and said they would not only be fired from WWE but that he'd see to it they were out of the business, as if this was the old days where blackballing could occur.

CHRIS BENOIT defeated A-TRAIN in 12:23. Train did a lot of trash talking as the match began. He dominated the match so thoroughly that it almost telegraphed that Benoit was going over. Literally, for like eight minutes A-Train stomped, clubbed, slammed, and shoulderblocked Benoit all over the ring. It was actually a very effective way to book A-Train. He looked good doing this and Benoit sold great for him. A-Train also used his power to block Benoit's offensive moves. He kept working on Benoit's bad neck. It wasn't always smooth, though, as Benoit got a busted lip from a stiff shot, and A-Train lost him on one move and dropped him on his head on a chair (that A-Train had earlier brought into the ring). That was potentially very dangerous but Benoit seemed okay afterward. Benoit finally rallied and hit the multiple German suplexes. A-Train hit the derailer. A-Train placed the chair in the corner between the turnbuckles, but when he went for a big boot on Benoit, his own leg went through the chair. Benoit won with the sharpshooter (a tribute to the Hart family following Stu's passing). Good match.

Backstage, Jon Heidenreich choked Shannon Moore for throwing away his match tape earlier. Matt Hardy arrived and insisted they threw away a different tape, not Heidenreich's. Heidenreich apologized, but again invoked the mysterious Little Johnny name.

They did a nice segment honoring the troops, as there were a lot of servicemen in the crowd.

ZACH GOWEN defeated MATT HARDY in 5:32. Hardy bullied Gowen early, slapping him. Gowen came back with a series of his impressive moves off the ropes. Hardy was left reeling. Shannon Moore caused Gowen to bump off the ropes on one of his move attempts. Hardy hit the snake eyes and a lariat, but crashed to the canvas on a moonsault attempt when Gowen moved. Gowen hit a dropkick and an amazing tope con hilo off the top. Hardy briefly rallied but Gowen scored a surprise pin with a moonsault. Good stuff, and the crowd once again liked it.

Linda pleaded with Vince not to go through with his match against Stephanie. She talked about how she's looked the other way on Vince's transgressions for their entire marriage, but that she can't look the other way this time. She said Vince was dividing the family in a way that will never heal, or whatever. Vince said that out of the goodness of his heart, he'd give Stephanie one advantage in the match, namely that she could win by either pinfall or submission, while he could win only by submission. But he then announced that he was adding No Holds Barred stips to the match. Linda walked out in disgust.

THE BASHAM BROTHERS defeated THE A.P.A. in 8:53. Shaniqua wasn't out there, selling her recent "injury". The APA used power moves to dominate early. It wasn't very smooth. Faarooq got trapped and doubled on for a while in the Basham corner. The crowd heat didn't die, but it did cool from what it had been, and what it would be for the next match. Bradshaw hot tagged and cleaned house, including a big powerbomb on Doug. Bradshaw hit the last call on Danny but Doug broke the pin up. The ref took a bump. Naturally, with the ref down, Bradshaw hit the lariat from hell on Doug. Shaniqua then showed up and walloped Bradshaw with a nightstick and Doug covered him for the pin. Not very good. Afterward, Shaniqua did an interview displaying her new implants, which she claimed was swelling from her injury, or something like that.

VINCE McMAHON defeated STEPHANIE McMAHON in a No Holds Barred “I Quit" match in 9:24. Sable and Linda were there in the respective corners. Vince blindsided Steph at the bell. She hooked a sleeper, but Vince dumped her to the mat. Vince tossed her around the ring. Sable reached in and slapped Steph, prompting Linda to chase Sable. Vince got between them, and acted like he was ready to wallop Linda, but didn't. Steph tried for a comeback but Vince lariated her and put her in a half crab. She refused to submit, even though probably 95% of the guys in the locker room would be expected to tap to a Vince submission hold. Vince tried to choke her out, but she raked his eyes. This wasn't good, but the crowd did get big time into it due to the characters involved. Sable tossed a pipe into the ring. Vince went for it but Linda slapped him and Steph got the weapon. Steph hit Vince with several pipe shots, one of which apparently connected and Vince got a facial cut. She also hit Vince in the balls with the pipe. But when she went for the pin, Vince got his foot on the ropes. Sable got on the apron. Vince ended up colliding with her, and Steph bulldogged Vince for a near fall. The crowd was going wild for the two counts. Vince got the pipe and hit Stephanie in the belly with it. He then choked her with the pipe. As before, she refused to quit, but eventually Linda threw in the towel for her. I guess that will be the escape clause for her to come back after the honeymoon. As for the match, it was a spectacle of some sort, and the fans live did enjoy it. Afterward, Vince pie-faced Linda and shoved her down before kissing Sable.

KURT ANGLE defeated JOHN CENA in 18:27. Cena ran down Angle in a pre-match street rap. Angle started off fast. He flipped Cena off after avoiding a lariat. Cena shoved Angle, who responded by pounding Cena with fists. Cena hit a lariat and came back with a flurry of fists of his own. Angle gave Cena a high backdrop, followed by chops and fists. Angle charged Cena but hit the post when Cena moved. Cena went to work on the “injured"shoulder. Angle got a busted lip somehow. Cena scored some twos, continuing to dominate Angle. Cena hooked a front headlock and hit a spinebuster. Cena came off the top, and Angle rallied by dropkicking him from the air. Angle scored two after a lariat and a Russian legsweep. Cena made the ropes to escape the ankle lock. The crowd was loving this, as well they should have. Angle tried to German suplex Cena off the apron. Cena blocked it and DDT'd Angle on the apron. Cena hit a guillotine legdrop on Angle's neck as he was returning to the ring. Cena scored two with a rolling neckbreaker. Angle hit the multiple Germans for a near fall. Cena powerbombed Angle against the turnbuckles. This stuff can't be good for Angle's neck. Cena hit the FU and scored two. Angle hit his Angle Slam for a near pin. The crowd popped huge for each near fall. Cena got a chain, but the ref took it from him. As the ref disposed of the chain, Cena punched Angle out with his medals. Again, Angle kicked out at two. Angle scored two with a backslide. Cena went for the FU again. Angle escaped and hooked the ankle lock for the tap out. Excellent match, and Cena proved himself a top player with his performance here. Great stuff from both guys!

BIG SHOW defeated EDDIE GUERRERO in 11:27 to capture the U.S. Title. Eddie's back was all bandaged from the cuts he received on Smackdown from being smashed on a car. Show overpowered Eddie early, tossing him around. Eddie caused Show to bump out, where Eddie hit him with a garbage can lid, after first tossing a chair in the ring to distract the ref. Show posted Eddie and began the slow, methodical big man offense. Show exposed a turnbuckle and rammed Eddie's back into it. Eddie hit a high crossbody off the top for a near fall. The ref almost got killed when Show crashed down on him. With the ref out, Eddie used brass knux on Show. But Show was superman in this match and kicked out at two. The same thing happened when Eddie hit him with the title belt and did the frog splash. Show hit a spinebuster for a near fall, followed by a chokeslam, with Eddie draping his foot over the ropes to stop the count. Eddie scored two with a low blow and a DDT. But in the end, Show hit a second chokeslam and got the pin. An okay match, though below what we would have gotten had Eddie had a fast-paced opponent. Show did a bragging promo afterward. Chavo Guerrero Jr. ran in to help Eddie to the back, but Eddie shoved him. Say your prayers tonight that they don't break Eddie and Chavo up.

BROCK LESNAR defeated UNDERTAKER in a biker chain on a pole match to retain the WWE World Title in 24:16. Undertaker started off with kicks and fists. He hit a legdrop and elbowed Lesnar's face on the apron. Lesnar sent UT into the stairs and suplexed him for an early pin attempt. UT came back with the boots and stomps. They brawled on the floor, where Lesnar rammed UT into the Spanish broadcast table. Back in the ring, UT hit a flying lariat for a near fall. They waited so long to try to climb the pole that I almost forgot this was a chain on a pole match. When UT finally started climbing, the lights went out. This looked like an angle but apparently is was just a case of the lights going out for a few seconds. Lesnar caught UT and powerslammed him. Lesnar brought in the stairs, and he send UT face first into them. UT lariated Lesnar out and piledrived him on the stairs. UT started to climb the pole again, but again Lesnar caught up to him. UT hooked a triangle choke. Lesnar escaped with a low blow and hit UT with the stairs. UT kicked the stairs into Lesnar's face when he tried to use them as a weapon again. Lesnar powered back and beat UT down. Lesnar started up the pole but UT nailed him from behind and nearly hit the Last Ride, but Lesnar escaped. Both men went down after a double lariat. UT hit the snake eyes and a boot to the face. Lesnar hit a spinebuster. UT caught Lesnar with an arm bar. Lesnar powered out. UT hooked a sleeper, which Lesnar escaped from by hitting the F5. This got the crowd, which had been a little bit off-and-on, fully into the match. UT avoided being pinned by getting his boot up on the rope. Lesnar started to climb, but UT chokeslammed him off. At this point, all three FBI members attacked UT. This was legal, by the way, since this was a no-DQ stip match. UT disposed of all three, and then gave Lesnar the Last Ride to a big pop. UT finished off Chuck Palumbo & Johnny Stamboli with a neat suicide tope across the ropes onto them. Nunzio tried to climb up for the chain, but UT threw him off to the floor. UT climbed up and got the chain, to a huge pop. Vince then arrived out of nowhere, causing UT to get crotched, which allowed Lesnar to get the chain and he clocked UT with it for the pin. I thought this was a decent match overall, though the FBI run-in was overkill. The match dig drag in spots.

2004 - WWE held their Taboo Tuesday Pay-per-view at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, headlined by Randy Orton defeating Ric Flair in a steel cage match and WWE Champion Triple H defeating Shawn Michaels, who was wrestling with a torn meniscus.  Tim Whitehead's original report on the event is below:
WWE TABOO TUESDAY PPV REPORT
by Tim Whitehead

WWE's Taboo Tuesday (10/19/04 Milwaukee) was a mixed bag show. I'm giving it a thumbs' up because the main event was great and there was enough good wrestling and booking to pull the show through. One bad match was passable because of entertainment value. Some of the show sucked, though.

After the usual opening formalities, Jonathan Coachman reported that the fans gave a whopping 53% of the vote for the schoolgirl outfits to be worn in the women's battle royal. That was a good thing.

Coach then reported that 37% of the fans voted for Shelton Benjamin to get the IC Title shot at Chris Jericho. That was a solid plurality considering that more than a dozen guys were in the running. Benjamin's closest rival was Batista at 20%.

SHELTON BENJAMIN defeated CHRIS JERICHO in 10:56 to capture the IC belt. Benjamin started with an armdrag takedown. Jericho hit some chops. Benjamin vaulted Jericho out for a big bump. Jericho came back with an enzuigiri and a suplex. Benjamin went for a dropkick and missed, prompting Jericho to go after his "hurt" back with kicks and stomps. Jericho hit a backbreaker. Benjamin hit a sunset flip. Jericho retaliated with a lariat. They were trading two counts throughout all this, but the crowd wasn't all that heated. This was one of those crowds that picked up as the show went along, and they were red hot by the main event. Benjamin hit a superplex, backdrop, and spinkick. Jericho hit the bulldog but missed on the lionsault when Benjamin rolled clear. Benjamin hit a lariat off the top. Jericho tried for the walls hold but Benjamin blocked it with an inside cradle. Jericho laid Benjamin out and successfully did the lionsault, but only scored two. Jericho came off the second rope, but was caught by Benjamin and suplexed into a clean pin. Good opener, though the crowd never really got into it. Jericho shook Benjamin's hand afterward. Good to see Benjamin getting a push, as at first it looked as if he was about to get lost in the shuffle during the build-up for this PPV.

Todd Grisham interviewed Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, and Edge, the three men in contention for the World Title shot against Triple H. Edge said his win over the other two last night in the three-way match on RAW proves he deserves the title shot and if there's any justice in the world, he'll win the fan vote and take HHH's belt. Benoit said he hasn't lost to HHH since returning to RAW, that he made HHH submit once, and he'll do it again. Heartbreak Kid denied HHH's allegations that he's faking a knee injury (his injury is legit). He asked fans to give him the shot, promising to take the belt. The fan vote was then revealed as 39% for HBK, 33% for Edge, and 28% for Benoit. This gave HBK the title shot, and also meant that Edge & Benoit would team for a run at the tag titles. Edge didn't take this well, storming off in anger. Benoit congratulated HBK and shook his hand.

TRISH STRATUS retained the Women's Title by winning a Battle Royal in 5:36. This one was pretty bad, though the main attraction here was the ladies in their schoolgirl outfits. Trish, Stacy Keibler, and Gail Kim especially looked pretty damn hot. Molly Holly was (deliberately) wearing a bland outfit. Jazz tore Nidia's top off and threw her out for an elimination. Victoria eliminated Jazz. She then eliminated Gail. Molly & Trish joined forces to eliminate Victoria. They struggled with Stacy for a while, but Molly eliminated her, only to be blindsided by Trish and eliminated. Trish thus retained her belt.

Grisham interviewed La Resistance. They were angry at having to face Edge & Benoit, claiming that the voting was corrupt. They claimed they were wrestling under protest.

GENE SNITSKY defeated KANE in a chain match in 14:15. The fans surprisingly voted 41% for the chain match. I had thought the lead pipe match would win since it was pushed on TV. This match turned out to be awful, and it was made worse by the lack of crowd heat. It was also way too long. Historically, a chain match is one where the wrestlers are chained together at the wrist. In this case, the chain was just lying in the ring. Kane got the chain first, but then nonsensically threw it out of the ring. They brawled, badly, for a while. Kane finally retrieved the chain and punched Snitsky with it. No juice. They brawled around slowly some more, not paying much attention to the chain. Snitsky eventually picked it up and used it to whip Kane. They brawled a little on the floor. Lita, who came out with Kane, picked the chain up but did nothing with it. Snitsky rammed a chair three times into Kane's throat in full view of the ref. Shouldn't that have been a DQ since the fans voted for a chain, not a chair, to be legal? I mean, if the match was an overall no-DQ match, why bother having fans vote to permit a particular weapon? Snitsky choked Kane out with the chain and then put his head through the chair. He did the exact same thing to Kane that Kane did to HBK a few months ago, namely, he jumped on the chair and "ruptured" Kane's windpipe, or whatever. Kane began spitting up blood. The ending was confusing as at first the ref seemed to signal for the match to be stopped. Snitsky started to leave, but then returned and pinned Kane. EMTs ran in as Lita looked all concerned over her "husband." Kane was strapped down to a gurney, still spitting up blood and gasping for air. This part was okay in that it was a standard angle of this type, but the match itself sucked. Jim Ross noted that this was the exact same injury that had befallen HBK at the hands Kane not too long ago, but then enigmatically claimed to have never seen anything like this in his life. JR seemed a little bit off throughout the show. Kane was carted out on the gurney, but of course Snitsky was waiting in the wings to turn the gurney over and stomp Kane a few more times. Kane will be taking some time off.

Edge was interviewed again. He was furious that the fans gave 39% of the vote to a broken-down has-been while giving him only 33%. He put over the tag titles as important but said he's held then ten times before and it's now time for him to win the big belt. He said it's his destiny to be World Champion but the fans let him down. He sarcastically thanked them.

EUGENE defeated ERIC BISCHOFF in 2:11. The proposed stips here were that the loser would be shaved bald, the loser would have to wear a dress for a month, or the loser would become the winner's servant. They held off announcing which stip won the fan vote until after the match for dramatic effect, and also as part of an angle. The match sucked. Bischoff sneak attacked Eugene before the bell with martial arts kicks. Eugene started a comeback. Bischoff faked an injury to get in another sucker kick. Eugene then did the Hogan comeback and pinned Bischoff after an airplane spin and a legdrop. Coach came down to the ring and revealed that the fans gave a whopping 59% of the vote to the head shaving stip. However, he then asked the live crowd which of the three they wanted. They popped huge for the head shaving, but Coach falsely claimed they popped for the servant stip. He then made some kind of convoluted claim that he had the authority to substitute the live crowd vote for the interactive fan vote. He thus announced that Bischoff would be Eugene's servant for five minutes, and that all Bischoff had to do was get Eugene a coke or maybe carry his bags to the car and the stip would be fulfilled. Bischoff was delighted to get off so easily, but Vince McMahon arrived to rain on his parade. Vince overruled Coach and said Bischoff would have to be shaved because that's what the fans voted for. Bischoff refused and started to walk out, but he came back when Vince threatened to fire his ass. He ordered Bischoff to sit his ass down in the barber's chair. Eugene grabbed the clippers. Bischoff balked again and started walking out. This time Coach ran after him and talked him out of leaving. Bischoff now seemed resigned to having his head shaved as the only way to keep his General Manager job. So Eugene began chopping away as Vince smirked. A few strokes with the clippers revealed that Bischoff has gray roots. Vince laughed at him for using hair coloring, calling him a phony son of a bitch. Coach tried to slink away, but Vince called him back. He forced Coach to put on the dress they had at ringside in case that stip won. He then called Coach a slut. Eugene chopped off about half of Bischoff's hair before it was announced that they would finish the job backstage so the show could go on. This was very entertaining, overriding the fact that the short match was bad.

Edge barged into HBK's locker room. He said HBK should have dropped out of the fan balloting due to his injury. Edge said he would have won the vote then and would have gone on to win the World Title. He told HBK he can't possibly beat HHH while wrestling injured and called him a selfish son of a bitch for not stepping aside. HBK listened in silence.

CHRIS BENOIT & EDGE defeated LA RESISTANCE in 16:14 to capture the RAW Tag Titles. Sylvan Grenier sang "O Canada". Frankly, I'd rather have seen some more of Bischoff's head being shaved. Edge and Rob Conway brawled to start things off. Benoit came in and suplexed Conway. Grenier suplexed Edge. Edge fought back with a lariat and a bodyslam. Edge went to the top, but then left the ring to argue with some heckling fans, allowing Grenier to recover. The story here was that Edge's heart wasn't in the match because he was disappointed at losing the World Title shot. Benoit tagged in and scored some twos on Grenier with a suplex and a backbreaker. Edge came back in but got beaten down and tied up in La Resistance's corner. They worked him over and scored some twos before he finally hot tagged Benoit. Benoit came in fast but got double teamed and tied up in the bad corner just as had happened to Edge. Benoit managed to fight his way out and tag Edge, but the ref didn't see the tag and disallowed it. Edge started to argue with the ref, but then seemed to get a "why am I wasting my time" look on his face. He turned and walked out, leaving Benoit alone. Edge walked to the back, got his bags, got in his car, and drove off. When Benoit realized he was abandoned, he grew furious and rallied. He fought both foes off, superplexing Grenier and then forcing Conway to tap to the crossface after two German suplexes. The victorious Benoit hoisted both tag belts as the crowd popped. The match was okay, but I really liked the angle.

Grisham interviewed HHH, who repeated his opinion that it's stupid to let the fans pick his opponent. He accused HBK of faking an injury to try and lure him into letting his guard down. He said it won't happen and that he'll remain champ.

CHRISTY defeated CARMELLA in a lingerie pillow fight in 1:48. This was awful as wrestling, though it was meant as a display of female flesh, and in that sense it was fine. The lingerie gimmick won with 57% of the vote, by the way. They had some of those silhouette screens set up on the stage so we could watch the gals change into their lingerie in silhouette. Christy had the hang of this but Carmella was too far from the screen for us to see much of her in silhouette. It took forever for them to change. They finally went down to the ring in their lingerie. Christy reached inside Carmella's top and pulled out a falsie, which was funny. They then just sort of hit each other with pillows. The pillows were gimmicked to bust open on contact so feathers were flying all over. Christy eventually knocked Carmella down and pinned her.

TRIPLE H defeated SHAWN MICHAELS to retain the RAW World Title in 14:04. HBK deserves a lot of credit for putting in such a good showing while injured. The injury was the story here as HHH immediately attacked the bad knee. He stomped, kicked, and wrenched the knee for several minutes as HBK sold the pain big time. HBK rallied by throwing chops but HHH just kept attacking the leg. HHH hooked the figure four. They did a great drama job here with the ref wanting HBK to give it up. HBK, in agony, begged the ref not to stop the match while HHH yelled for him to do just that. HBK made the ropes after a great struggle. HHH dragged HBK over to the post and was about to wrap the knee around it, but HBK managed to evade it and ended up posting HHH. HBK went on a brief offensive on one leg, and evaded a pedigree with a low blow. HBK hit a DDT, and despite the pain, he forced himself to climb to the top to deliver a flying elbow. HBK was ready to try for the sweet chin music. Batista ran out and got on the apron. HBK slugged him. HBK then hit the chin music as well as he could given the injury. Batista tried to get in the ring. The ref struggled with him. As the ref was distracted, Edge came from the other side and speared HBK. HHH crawled on top for the pin as the ref returned to action. The Edge run in was great. The match wasn't a classic HHH vs. HBK encounter, due to HBK's necessary limitations here, but they booked it great considering this and it was a good match.

Bischoff was shown leaving the arena. He wasn't totally bald, but almost was and what little hair he had was gray. He passed a bunch of tech crew guys and accused them of laughing at him. He threatened to fire all of them.

RANDY ORTON defeated RIC FLAIR in a cage match in 10:35. The cage stip won with a huge 68% of the vote. Coach, still wearing the dress, called 68% unanimous. Uh, no, Coach, 68% is a landslide. It requires 100% to be unanimous. They started off with brawling and chops. Flair was fired up, stemming from the Jimmy Kimmel deal. Orton backdropped Flair. Flair took full advantage of the no-DQ rules, hitting a low blow. Flair raked Orton across the cage and he juiced a gusher. JR said neither Bush nor Kerry could hope to get 68% of the vote. Jerry Lawler said Bush should get that much but he doubted he will. Considering that the biggest presidential landslides in history never came close to 68%, it's safe to say JR's prediction was right. Maybe the cage should run for president. Anyway, Orton brawled back and bloodied Flair on the cage. Both went to the top, with Flair getting crotched. Orton pounded the cut and caused Flair to bleed more. This was certainly a double juice bloodbath. Orton hit a bodyslam and a crossbody for a near fall. The crowd heat here was enormous. Flair pulled out brass knux and flattened Orton, but only scored a two count, which caused the crowd to get hotter. Flair tried to go out through the door. Orton dragged him back, but Flair managed to haul a chair in with him. Flair swung the chair and missed, and Orton then nailed Flair with a surprise RKO and scored the pin. The crowd popped huge for the finish. Great match and great heat! The post-match stuff was awesome as Flair and Orton first shook hands and then hugged. It put over the idea that Flair, though past his prime, could still hang in there in a dangerous cage match and he put a beating on the younger and stronger Orton before losing a close contest. Both kept looking at one another through all the blood as if to say they mutually respected the other. Flair, God bless him, put another young star over and, as JR noted, legitimized his "legend killer" claim. Orton seemed legitimately emotional over this. Each raised the other's hand as the show left the air.

2007 - WWE broadcast Smackdown.  Richard Trionfo filed the following TV report:

We move closer to Cyber Sunday and we now know that after Finlay and Rey Mysterio could not determine a winner that a third party has entered the mix and will be facing Batista for the World Title at Cyber Sunday. We also know that Montel Vontavious Porter and his fellow tag team champion Matt Hardy will be facing each other at Cyber Sunday. The most important question going into the pay per view is who will be the referee for the World Title Match. Will it be Steve Austin, Mick Foley, or John Layfield? Who will emerge as the favorite to become the new Cruiserweight Champion?
We are live on tape from Birmingham, England and your announcers are Michael Cole and JBL.

We start off with a look back at last week's main event when Rey Mysterio faced Finlay to determine who would face Batista for the World Title at Cyber Sunday. We see the referee lose control of the match and disqualify Finlay and Rey. We then see Undertaker emerge in the ring and signal to Batista that he wanted the title. We know that Undertaker will face Batista for the World Title. Bradshaw reminds us that we can vote for the referee. Bradshaw says that he will be interviewing Batista tonight.

Match Number One: Great Khali with Runjin Singh versus Kane
Kane with a kick and punches to Khali but Khali responds with a punch that knocks Kane to his knee. Khali with a head butt followed by a chop. Khali with a big boot and then he applies a nerve hold. Kane gets back to his feet but then he falls back to his knees. Kane gets up and backs Khali into the corner to get out of the hold. Khali with the chop to the top of Kane'ss head and then he wants Kane to get up for the Khali Krush and he applies it but Kane gets to the ropes. Khali with kicks to Kane in the corner followed by a series of back elbows. Kane with an uppercut and punches followed by a kick to the knee. Kane goes up top for the jumping clothesline and hits it. Kane sets for the choke slam but Khali with an elbow to get out of the hold. Khali clotheslines Kane over the top rope to the floor and then he goes out after Kane. Khali gets a camera cable and chokes Kane. Khali does not release the choke and the referee disqualifies Khali.
Winner: Kane by disqualification

After the match, Khali continues to choke Kane and then he sends Khali into the ring steps. Khali rearranges the announce table but that delay allows Kane to get the ring bell and he hits Khali with it.

Kane returns to the ring but before he can summon his pyro, he is interrupted by the music for Big Daddy V who comes to the ring with Matt Striker. Khali tries to get back into the ring and Kane punches Khali. Big Daddy V enters the ring and attacks Kane from behind. Big Daddy V with the Samoan Drop. We go to commercial.

We are back and we are reminded that Batista has his autobiography.

We have a Moments Ago Moment of Big Daddy V attacking Kane after his match with Khali.

Matt Striker and Big Daddy V are in the back and Striker says that since Kane decided to stick his nose in Big Daddy V's business, he has opened a Pandora's Box. OK QUACK, QUACK AND DUCK THE CLOTHESLINE

That's what I was telling the Doctor's the whole time if they even thought I had more cancer left in me.

Thanks to everyone for all the prays and thoughts you all are the best family friend's and foe the e mail's to prays were great and the phone call's to the Tex's.

Here's The smack down  this Tuesday the 14 they put me under at 10;00 am and at 11:30 I was back to being DOC again I felt great with Shannon my niece at my side I just had this good feeling you know Doctor feel good. the Doctor came in and said to me he thought that there wasn't any Cancer but to be for sure it would take them 48 hours to get in to the lymphoid. the Biopsies was hard the doctor said they went down my Stomach in to my lung with a ultrasound that would find the lymphoid and then they put a needle through my lung to get the biopsies. They had to be careful of this so my lung wouldn't inflate.

So as for the next day they wanted me to do more test like a pet scan as I ask the doctor do we need all those tests the next day or can I get on the plane and head home. The doctor canceled all the test and told me to call in 48 hour's I was out of there as quick as I could thanking the Lord the whole time. I felt like that 800 lb ape was off my back.

Now for 48 hours it felt like a life time to me I called 3 times Thursday nothing I am starting to let it get the best of me Friday roll's around morning I am  on the phone calling leaving massages about 3 of them I need to know something been up at night from 1 2 3 4 am no sleep. The doctor said to me I had some FLUMATION around the Lymphoid and I know your asking how did this happen will he said that because I do not breath  in and out of my nose or mouth that I get all the germs in my stomach and so the Flumation of the Lymphoid is right by my breathing place.  Now your asking yourself what can we do about this will they are try to fit me for a hand's free but it cost.

About $18,000.00, so we are asking God to help me with this in good time.  So now the doctor asks me to come back to MD ANDERSON every 3 month for 2 years, he said I could do it up here in Denver.  I said are you crazy I am going where they know me and where the best is

So WE ARE 4 YEAR'S CANCER FREE BY THE GRACE OF GOD

WE HAVE AWESOME GOD WE DO. IF WE JUST LET HIM HAVE IT ALL IT'S SO EASY.

Thank you all.
God Bless Steve

We hear some comments from some of the participants. Then we see the two trainers, Brutus Beefcake and Brian Knobs. There will be two five person teams. We see them training and in front of the fans. The three judges are announced. Joining Hogan are Eric Bischoff and Jimmy Hart. There is going to be some tension and there will be some pros who are there to work with the celebrities. We see Rob Van Dam and Bill Goldberg making appearances. We see one of the celebrities taken out with a neck brace and Hogan says better them than him.

Eric says that each trainer will pick a team and the coaches will teach their trainees three moves a week. The teams will have matches in front of a live crowd. They will be judged on showmanship and technical ability. The team that best exhibits these two features will be safe, but the other team will have one person who will face elimination.

As one of the men who put ROH on the map with a classic 3-way match at “The Era of Honor Begins”, Daniels has set the standard for every Ring of Honor competitor that has come along in the last 8-plus years. He reigned as the first-ever ROH Tag Team Champion and with his unparalleled technical ability, the devastating Angel’s Wings, and the BME, Daniels has earned the title of “ROH Legend”. Those are the same tools he now uses as he strives to earn the moniker “best wrestler in the world” and the title of ROH World Champion.

In Ring of Honor, you’ll not see any hocus pocus or reality stars cashing paychecks. 2012 - Michael Gossett, best known professionally as Mike Graham, the son of late Championship Wrestling from Florida promoter Eddie Graham, passed away at the age of 61.  The cause of death was self-inflicted.

Graham was in Daytona, Florida for a motorcycle gathering with his wife and was found deceased.

Graham, a tremendously gifted in-ring performer from a technical standpoint, was trained by Hiro Matsuda, Boris Malenko and his father in the early 1970s and had a long run as a babyface in the Florida territory but made appearances for the WWF, AWA and other promotions as well.    He had won just about every championship there was in the old Florida territory and had several stints as the AWA Light Heavyweight champion.

Graham closed out his regular in-ring career in the early 1990s for WCW before becoming a road agent for the company and was off and on with WCW as a trainer and producer until the company closed in 2001.

Graham was also involved in several start-up companies in the 1980s and 1990s, often trying to recapture the magic of the old Florida territory, most notably with PWF in Florida, which featured Dusty Rhodes returning to the State as its top star following his run as booker for Crockett Promotions, as well as talents like Dustin Rhodes, Big Steel Man (Fred "Typhoon" Ottman), and others.  He was also involved in Rhodes' Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling and Jimmy Hart's XWF.

Graham, a staple in the Florida wrestling scene for his entire life, still appeared occasionally on legends events promoted by WrestleReunion and similar promotions and appeared on several of the early Legends of Wrestling roundtable discussion shows produced by WWE's 24/7 Video on Demand channel.  He accepted his father's posthumous WWE Hall of Fame induction over Wrestlemania 24 weekend, showcasing a large photo he was giving WWE of an old NWA convention gathering of promoters.

Graham was also involved in the training of a number of talents who broke in during the 1980s and 1990s.

Graham maintained ownership of the tape library of his father's promotion and refused to sell to WWE until he got what he wanted to, often commenting and advising others that he wasn't going to let anyone back a truck up and take his family legacy away for nothing.  In the end, he did sell the library with an alleged seven figure price-tag.  At the World Wrestling Legends 6:05 Reunion PPV, where Graham wrestled, JJ Dillon quipped on the mic that he looked like someone who thought "he won a million dollars", a reference to the pricetag.

WWE issued the following statement on Graham's passing:

Mike Graham Passes Away

WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of Mike Graham, 61, son of legendary promoter Eddie Graham. While never under contract with WWE, he was part of our extended family. The sports-entertainment world lost a beloved member today. WWE extends its sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Interesting mix here.  They started out slow, trying to feel the other out.  Papadon nailed a kick but DJ clobbered him with a clothesline and a back splash senton.  He worked over Papadon in the corners with chops.  Papadon came back with some offense but was caught with a Black Hole Slam for a two count.

The crowd began rallying and chanting for Papadon.  He sent Hyde into the corner and rolled him up, then his a back suplex for a two count.  He drilled Hyde's chest with a series of kicks but Hyde ducked another came back with a lariat for the pin.

Your winner, DJ Hyde!

Hyde's second, Flawless Blake Morris said that when he and Hyde are together, they are unstoppable. He said that last month, he laid out Rick Cataldo, but what bothers him is that Nikki Adams. He said that she wants to wrestle men and what happened when you wrestle men is that you become an embodiment of what is wrong with this world. Adams came out and asked him if he had to say something to her face. She questioned that she shouldn't be here but she earned her place and said if he's such a big man, he should find his balls and have a match right now. He said that he doesn't like to hit women but he will make an exception to prove to her that she is sin incarnate. He said that when he beats her, she will know that she is beneath him.

Really good back and forth tag match with a lot more action than I could even hope to capture typing.  Silver gets better every time I see him and I really think he's at the top of my list of unheralded indy workers.  Milk Chocolate, for a young team, are just awesome to watch in the ring, although I could do without their terrible singing gimmick.    Great stuff.

House of Madness: Mikey Whipwreck & Stockade vs. Ryan Rush & Tony Burma & NYWC Tag Team champs Matt Justice & Jesse Vane

Burma and Ruh entered the cage and locked it as everyone else brawled outside.  There are all sorts of weapons, ladders, tables, tacks, etc. in the ring.  Whipwreck and Stockade used a bunch of cookie sheets and the cage itself.

It was a lot of insane, mindless brawling early.  Mikey and Stockade finally got in the ring and cleaned house, tossing the others into the cage over and over.   Burma and Rush took control using cookie sheets on everyone.  Justice and Vane battled with them and took control of the madness.  They nailed a big backdrop on Rush, and his feet hit a barbed wire bat hanging above the ring.

Stockade ascended a ladder and got the bat, then used it to destroy everyone.  Whipwreck had a mouse trap snapped over his nose and circled the ring wearing it.  WOW.  There was lots and lots of plunder.     Rush and Burma left the cage to look for something and were locked out of the cage.  They tried to use a chair to break the lock.

Vane went to the top of a ladder but Stockade tried to stop him.  He was grabbed and powerbombed into the ring by Justice.  Vane came off the top of the ladder with an elbow.   Mikey sent Vane into the tacks and then gave him a Whippersnapper.

Mikey and Justice battled atop of the cage.  Mikey drilled Justice off the ropes through a table in the ring and scored the pin.

Your winners and new NYWC Tag Team champions, Mikey Whipwreck & Stockade!

Really brutal, evil, pluderific main event.  Just nuts and chaotic.

2015 - The WWE Network aired a live podcast with Steve Austin interviewing Brock Lesnar.  Mike Johnson filed the following report:

Welcome to PWInsider.com's coverage of The Stone Cold Podcast with Brock Lesnar.
Austin started out and said tonight was like a homecoming for him as he started in Dallas. He welcomed Brock and said that he appreciates Brock coming on since he has limited dates and is real busy. Brock said he is really happy to be here and joked he might have to throw some suplexes later.

Austin said that the first time he saw Brock, he knew he had the look and from his background, knew he was a badass. He said Brock is a very intimidating guy and asked him if he tried to do and whether he gets along with people. Lesnar said that he may carry himself in a manner that people may consider cocky or arrogant but he doesn't do it on purpose. It's just who he is. He's always had a chip on his shoulder and that's just how it was. Austin asked if he got picked on as a youngster and he said that was doing the picking.

Brock said that if he wasn't a pro wrestler, he doesn't know what he would be today. He had a passion for the weight room and pumping iron and that's why he looks the way he does today. Austin said his tough guy persona was a shoot and that he had a background on the farm. Lesnar said that life on the farm where he grew up in South Dakota, there wasn't a lot of money left over. It was all about how much their cows and their animals did. Some years were better than others so you lived like you were poor. He said that you were married to it and at 4:45 AM no matter what, you got up and milked the cows. That was the way it was and that's how he approached wrestling.

Austin and Lesnat talked about wanting to go hunting together. Lesnar said he was a Dodge guy when it comes to his trucks.

They talked about preferences in gun, opticals, grills and drinks.  Lesnar said he is a hardcore country music fan.

Austin said he used to wrestle for a living and asked Lesnar if he was a wrestler or a sports entertainer.  Lesnar asked if there was a difference.  He said he's in the entertainment industry and in the business of selling tickets.  He said he's fortunate to have done the things he's done and to make the money he's made.  He was never watching the business as a kid and didn't watch it.  He was watching Little House on the Prairie.  Austin cracked up at that.

Lesnar played football in High School and played all sorts of positions.  Austin asked him about the Minnesota Vikings camp (when he left the company the first time) and whether it was humbling.  Brock said that he's excelled at fighting his entire life and its good to get humbled at life.  He said it could be his kids or a deer or something he's doing with his hands.  He said he gave the Vikings a try and knew by the second day of camp how grueling it was going to be.  He said in college, he used to make fans of the football players but after his experiences at the camp, he has respect for what they put themselves through.

Lesnar discussed his college background and how after winning his NCAA title, he basically spent several months depressed and quit school as he didn't know what to do and didn't have any money.  The conversation went to OVW.  He knew Shelton Benjamin there and he moved in with him and when he went to the training facility, it was barbaric and it blew him away in a good way.  It was like being back in Dakota.  When he was signed, he still had several wrestling camps he was commited to.  He started training with Brad Rheighans who had Lesnar working with Curt Hennig, Wayne Bloom and a few others to help him learn the business.

Austin said other then Kurt Angle, he's never seen someone gravitate towards the business like Lesnar did.  Austin said Ray Traylor (Big Bossman) and Curt Hennig really took to him.  He asked what he learned from them.  He said he was told to ride with the guys and ask questions.  He would ask to sit in the back when Kane and Undertaker were driving,  He said he credits them all for giving some psychology into the wrestling and when it comes to putting matches together.  Having them in his ear smartening him up helped him.

Austin said he got in the ring with The Rock very soon.  Lesnar said Rock taught him to be selfish and to stand up for himself because you have to be selfish in the business.  He said that his first big match was a three way with Rock and HHH in Australia and they kept him out of the loop in planning to make him work and earn it.

Lesnar said the early era was very intuiging and stimulating with all the travel and hotels.  He said that people around you change and begin treating you differently because of the way you present yourself on TV.  He said he doesn't like people and doesn't like being around a bunch of people.  He can be alright with it in an Arena because he feels like he's protected under a Dome but being around a bunch of people socially, he doesn't like it.  He doesn't play well, so he lives in the middle of nowhere with an eight foot gate and shuts the gate when he's there.

They showed the Brock Lesnar shooting star press that went to hell at Wrestlemania 19.  Lesnar said he was really lucky.  He said that he failed to take advice from other veterans that night.  He was talked into doing it that night and he wasn't comfortable doing it but since he had done it before, he agreed to do it.  He said that the person that talked about it said it was going to be a Wrestlemania moment and sure, it was a Wrestlemania moment.  Austin said he was mad at Lesnar about it because he didn't need to do it.

Austin then brought up The Goldberg match at Wrestlemania 20.  Brock said he couldn't remember matches or events because he just looks at it as a business.  He said that neither he nor Bill wanted to be there.  Brock said he didn't give a sh** about it being Wrestlemania.  He said when he flipped the crowd the bird, he was really giving it to Vince McMahon.  He felt entrapped and wanted out, even though it was only two years.  He said he was made to be in the ring but not made for the travel going from ring to ring.

Lesnar said going to the NFL was a "scapegoat" for him as he was grasping at ropes trying to find an escape and something to do.

Austin asked him if that was when he started going to Japan.  Austin asked if Brock sued WWE or did WWE sue him.  Lesnar smiled and said, "I don't know.  I think we got the wrong guy in here, maybe."  Brock said it doesn't really matter.  He said that was water under the bridge for him.

Austin asked if he's ever gotten heat about the way he's in and out.  He said he didn't know anyone here when he came back.  He said he clocks in and out and doesn't hang out with the boys.  He doesn't bother anyone and if he pisses anyone off on the way, too bad.  He said it's a job like anyone else has.

Brock was asked about UFC.  Lesnar said he was in New Japan and found out there was fighting over there and they wanted him to fight.  His deal ended and he used his Japan connections to get a K1 fight.  He was trying to get Dana White's attention but White wasn't taking him seriously.  He went to a fight, hopped the rail and grabbed White.  White brought him to the back and they talked everything but money.  Brock told him to sign him to a one fight deal and if Brock couldn't move PPVs, don't have him back.

Brock talked about his first fight against Frank Mir and when he was caught in the submission, he was disgusted with himself.  He had trained to escape it in his camp but was still caught.  He felt, "You have to be kidding me."  He figured he blew everything and felt he wasn't going to get signed again and there was no way to make money.  He went to the back and Dana was bouncing off the walls and told him no way it was over and was signed to a 3-6 fight deal.

When he fought Heath Herring, Herring made a real vs. fake comment as he walked past Lesnar's locker room, so that's why Brock pounded him so hard and even told him "This is real, buddy" when he had him down.  When he won the UFC title from Randy Couture he was so thankful to Dana White for being given the chance.

They talked about Brock's battle with diverticulitus and how it hampered and ended his UFC career.  Brock knew something was wrong but blew it off and didn't get a CT Scan of his stomach.  He pushed his fight back and went to Canada to go deer hunting.  He ended up in the hospital and the doctor diagnosed it and said he knew Brock was a fighter and he was going to try and save his fighting career if he can but he was more concerned about saving Brock's life.  They pumped him with heavy anibiotics for eight hours.  The fever was still 104 degrees and they were wheeling him into the ER for surgery.  He was out and when he woke up, he asked what happened and they told him that just as they were about to cut him open, his fever broke.  So they didn't do the surgery.

Austin asked him how he mended the fence with Vince McMahon.  Brock joked that Austin did the same.  Brock said he didn't care when Austin walked out on the company.  Austin explained he felt the match between the two should have been down the line when it meant something.  Austin said he handled it wrong and Lesnar said that maybe he did but someone else should have handled it differently from their end.

Austin asked him to compare Vince McMahon and Dana White.  Lesnar said that if you have a big bank account, how can you not have a big ego?  Lesnar said he thanks them both for all the money they put in his bank account.  Austin said it was hard fought money and Lesnar agreed.  He said he did all his deals with Dana and The Fertitas across the table.  When he most recently signed with WWE, he considered going back to UFC because he felt his first run in MMA was robbed by his health.  He felt like something was missing and was honest with WWE and told them he was considering returning to the Octagon.  He set up a fight camp so he could test himself mentally even more than physically.

Lesnar was asked why doesn't speak as much on promos in WWE when he was so great in UFC.  Lesnar cracked, "I gotta feed the Jew.  He's gotta eat," while referring to Paul Heyman, who was off screen.  Lesnar said he guesses he's not good at promos.  When they brought him back, Lesnar said that Paul fills in the words for him as his actions speak loud.  He said that when he first came back, they threw Brock out there to see where he was.  He said cutting a promo in wrestling is nothing like speaking from the heart after a fight when Joe Rogan interviews you.

Lesnar said when he fought, he didn't know how many people were in the building but competing in WWE, he could feel the energy.  He said it's different hats that he guesses he wears.

Lesnar was asked how competitive the locker room is today vs. the past.  Lesnar said he's not involved in the people that much and is hands-on with Vince McMahon.  He wants to know what his thoughts are and where Vince wants him to be.  He doesn't have to make friends or politic.

Austin asked him about breaking the Undertaker's streak at Wrestlemania. He asked Brock how it felt. You could see that it didn't mean anything big emotionally to Brock. It was just another day at the office. He said that he knew from a business perspective it was big and he compared it to winning a major championship.

Austin asked Brock what the biggest misconceptions of him were.  Brock said he didn't care about them.     He said he doesn't get offended by what others thought about his actions or how he carried himself.  He tries to be nice to people unless they cross the line.

Austin asked him where he is at when it comes to gas in the tank. Lesnar said he has a pretty good idea where his career is going but he's not going to share it.  He's having fun and doing business.  He said people fight to get in the business.  When he left, he and Vince didn't see eye to eye about it but because he left, he's probably made more money for himself and the company because of it.

Brock was asked what advice he would give himself when he was younger or a rookie thing.  He said that this generation, too many people want things handed to them and don't want to work for it.  If you don't work for it, you aren't going to get anything.

Austin closed it out asking it about the Hell in A Cell match against Undertaker.  Lesnar said he's prepared.  The cage isn't forgiving and there's going to be a lot of carnage.  He said he's coming to end The Undertaker.  He's irritated with him and he's over it.

2015 - Charges of domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment against TNA star Thomas "Bram" Latimer have been dropped as the Prosecutor has declined to press charges, PWInsider.com confirmed this afternoon with Latimer's attorney, Brandon M. Daniels.

Daniels told PWInsider.com, "Our office is pleased to announce that Mr. Latimer's case has been successfully resolved, resulting in a decision by the State Attorney's office whereby they have declined to prosecute our client on the aforementioned charges.  Our office has always maintained that once the entirety of the facts, evidence and witness statements are brought forth, our client would be exonerated of the allegations."

Latimer was arrested on 8/30 in Gulfport, Florida and charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation as well as one count of false imprisonment after authorities responded to calls of a large argument at Latimer's co-op.  Although arresting officers reported in their arrest report that Latimer admitting holding down the victim by her throat and refusing to let her leave a bedroom, Latimer had plead not guilty to all charges.

Latimer was suspended indefinitely by TNA upon being arrested with TNA's John Gaburick stating the suspension would run through the resolution of the criminal case against him.  With the case now out of the way, the door opened for Latimer's return to the company.
