DANIEL BRYAN IN THE MAIN EVENT OF WRESTLEMANIA 31? THE ODDS DON'T SEEM TO BE IN HIS FAVOR, BUT...

By Mike Johnson on 2015-02-03 16:00:00
With the uproar in recent weeks over how Daniel Bryan was eliminated from the Royal Rumble and WWE potentially looking at fans once again hijacking their TV productions with chants and signs pushing Bryan back into the forefront of the company's storylines, one has to wonder if we are looking at history repeat itself.

Last year, Bryan wasn't planned for the main event, but fans hijacking the show and CM Punk walking out of WWE forced the WWE Creative team's hand, sending Bryan on a one way ticket to having an all-time great performance at Wrestlemania 30.

But, after being out injured for nine months and Roman Reigns obviously tapped at being the new top hero for the company, can Bryan do it again?

It's going to be hard to place a hard bet, because with pro wrestling as a manipulated sport, the odds are always changing and the house controls everything. It's a case of the producers vs. the fans who buy their product.

The odds in that match are always too even to call, which makes the bet that much more fun. If one was going to head to GamblingSites.net to place a bet on the match itself, they'd likely find themselves enjoying the thrill of the game and would have their hopes ride alongside Bryan in his battles.

But real life...the part that makes pro wrestling, is a little harder to gauge. There's the chance WWE doesn't want to revisit the past, even if that would engage the audience in a way that trotting the past in the form of The Rock out there, probably would not.

It's possible they are concerned about how Bryan's neck would hold out to the full-time pounding and scrutiny of WWE's schedule and harsh workload.

It's also possible that in their heart of hearts, WWE truly believes it's now or never for Roman Reigns, because they want that moment where Brock Lesnar loses the title and Brock's contract is ticking away...and then all that work is lost when Brock walks out the door, the moment lost forever.

Like a great Super Bowl, pro wrestling is unpredictable, although in a completely different way and with a completely unique passion amongst it's fans.

That passion rode Daniel Bryan to the main event of Wrestlemania. But, lightning never strikes a second time. Can they do it again? It seems unlikely, but as a favorite scoundrel once said, "Never tell me the odds."

Because, even in the manipulated world of WWE, those odds change by the day. If Daniel Bryan can overcome them and end up back in the main event picture of Wrestlemania, that in itself will be a feat as worthy as capturing the WWE World Heavyweight championship itself.

And it will all be thanks to you.
