Impact Thoughts
The Matches
I did not like the opening match. If they are going to do the Scott Steiner/Petey Williams jealousy angle, they do not have to it during a match. I do not like the current Guitar Hero gimmick for Jimmy Rave and Lance Hoyt.
Why does Hernandez need outside interference to defeat Kip James? The best thing about this match was the post match ‘firing’ of Roxxi by Kip. Maybe Roxxi can gain an identity of her own and contribute to the Women’s division. At least we got to see the members of LAX on an episode of Impact.
The Judas Mesias/Kory Chavis match was too much of a squash to comment. I have seen Kory wrestle for a number of companies in Florida, including FIP and Pro Wrestling Riot and he is a good worker and has shown that he can hang with some of the top Ring of Honor talent that works with those companies. I have not been impressed with Mesias’s work and I hope he turns it up a notch in the Barbed Wire Massacre II Match or they might have to start calling him Y2Judas.
I liked the women’s match when ODB and Roxxi were in the ring. I thought it was funny that Roxxi had been fired from VKM by Kip after his match, but she comes to the ring with VKM’s music. I did not mind the finish because it gives Angelina Love a victory that could propel her in the women’s division, but I would feel differently if there were more faces in the division. Right now, Angelina is the number two face in the women’s division behind Gail Kim; and I feel that Roxxi has a lot more potential than Angelina so a losing streak by Roxxi could harm her status in the company.
The six person mixed tag match was okay but I wanted to see more from Payton Banks because I know that she should be in the top echelon of the women in the company. Was this match done because they have run out of combinations for Eric Young, Robert Roode, and James Storm? Do you think that Val will get jealous of Traci after Sonjay hugged her before the match?
The main event was okay but A.J.’s presence as referee took away from the match a bit. We got the point that A.J. did not want to count out either man. I don’t think I have seen someone out that long from a belt shot before tonight’s show. I think they have done a good job building Tomko as the only ‘normal’ person in the company amidst the things that I refer to in the opening paragraph of my Angles analysis.
The Angles
Similar to last week’s report, I will not be commenting on any negative aspects of the following segments/storylines: 1) Kurt Angle; 2) Shark Boy; 3) Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe; 4) Frankie Kazarian/Black Reign; or 5) James Mitchell and his many unknown children. So if you do not see me comment on these angles, it is because I am sick of rehashing the same complaints every single week.
I liked the opening Team 3D/We hate the X Division segment until they showed Shelley, Sabin, and Lethal in the back. I liked that they continue to give Brother Ray the same intensity that he had when The Dudleys were the most hated tag team in professional wrestling. I think I might have liked the second half of the segment more if they had shown Team 3D looking for Shelley, Sabin, and Lethal only to realize that they were not even in the backstage area and that it was pre-recorded. I did like it when Brother Ray finished off the promo by hitting each of them with the kendo stick while he mentioned the name of the pay per view.
How happy will Johnny Devine be on February 10th if his team wins because a victory will eliminate the title that he holds.
Why do they still have Petey Williams and Scott Steiner holding the briefcases? Are they trying to remind us that the Feast or Fired Match took place at Turning Point and they have not paid off on any of the cases for people who were not fired? What does possession of the case mean since they already have their matches determined? I have a feeling that this storyline will be added to my ‘no more commenting until it gets better’ list.
Did Booker T run from Houston to get to the Impact Zone in time to attack Robert Roode after his match?
Do all TNA wrestlers use the same interior decorator because I could have sworn that I saw a lot of things that Booker had in his house during our forays into Kurt Angle or Eric Young’s houses during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So Jim Cornette tells Matt Morgan not to do anything to anger Samoa Joe during the contract signing and then he throws a pen at Joe which angers him and forces Joe to ruin the beautiful set up in the ring and get the contract ripped up (more on that later). I wonder if Cornette will do anything to punish Matt. Maybe if they gave him a match against Nash that would make sure that Morgan behaves.
Speaking of the Samoa Joe situation with the contract signing. I have already commented on how Joe has been complaining about not getting title matches and then when he is reminded that he has had title matches, but lost; he attacks Jeremy Borash. Then when Jim Cornette offers Joe a title match (which would conceptually give him more money if he wins the title) after being the special enforcer (not that we don’t have enough of them in the company) of the Christian Cage/Kurt Angle match at Against All Odds, Joe turns it down. So when Joe is given a big contract, he rips it up when Matt Morgan throws a pen at him. Since he is getting a premium over Angle’s salary, does that mean if Angle leaves TNA that Joe will not get any money?
If Awesome Kong was interviewed, I could hardly see her lips move when her handler/manager spoke. I liked that Kong was portrayed as a gentle person and that it was everyone else’s fault that she was so violent.
2010 - WWE announced that Antonio Inoki would be inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Stardate 0201.2010. Raw . . . the Final Frontier . . . this is the report of the WWE Flagship Monday Night Raw on PWInsider.com. It’s six year plus mission: to report on what happens in the world of professional wrestling, to seek out scoops, breaking news, and provide audio for its subscribers; to boldly go where no man has gone before.
We are live from Nashville, Tennessee and your announcers are Michael ‘Why did they make me wear a red shirt tonight’ Cole and Jerry ‘TJ Hooker’ Lawler.
We begin with a graphic In Memory of Jack Brisco, the WWE Hall of Famer who passed away today.
The man who won the Royal Rumble starts things off and it is the Rated R Superstar. Edge has found a razor between his victory last night and tonight’s show. Edge gets a mixed reaction from the fans in Nashville. He says that he is back. He says that it feels good. He says that he is not just back in a WWE ring, he is back in the main event of Wrestlemania. Edge wants us to go back six months when he won the Unified Tag Titles with Chris Jericho and then he suffered an injury. Edge talks about what the doctors told him about his recovery. Edge says that he was sitting home about seven weeks ago and he saw the Slammys and he remembers watching Chris Jericho thanking him for getting injured so he could team with the Big Show. Edge says that he saw Chris Jericho making light of his injury and the room got very silent. Edge says it didn’t get silent because of Dennis Miller’s hosting job. It got silent because Edge made a vow and promise. He missed two Wrestlemanias due to injury and he is not going to miss a third. Edge says that he is the Ultimate Opportunist. Edge promised he would prove the doctors wrong and he would rehab harder than he ever did before and he did. He promised himself that he would be in the Royal Rumble and he would win it. Seven weeks later, Chris Jericho has a Slammy award and a mug shot on TMZ, but Edge reminds us that he has a ticket to the main event of Wrestlemania. He says that he can face any champion that he wants. Edge mentions that he faced the Undertaker two years ago in the main event and he lost. Edge says that unlike Shawn Michaels, if he wants the Dead Man, he can have them.
Edge asks if it is smart to go after the guy who is 17-0 in Wrestlemania or the guy who never wrestled at Wrestlemania. He can make a decision tonight or wait until after the Elimination Chamber pay per view. Edge says that this year the Rated R Superstar will headline Wrestlemania.
Sheamus’ music plays and he comes out to the ring and he has something to say. Sheamus says that Edge isn’t back five seconds and he is mouthing off. Sheamus says that a lot has changed. Edge says that Raw has been taken over by an evil Ronald McDonald. Sheamus tells Edge to watch his mouth. Sheamus agrees with Edge that he hasn’t been at Wrestlemania, but he was able to beat John Cena for the WWE Title. Last night, he defeated Randy Orton to keep his title. Edge tells Sheamus that he has made a career out of beating John Cena and Randy Orton. Sheamus reminds Edge that he has been sidelined for six months. Sheamus says that he will still be champion after the Elimination Chamber. Sheamus says that if he can beat John Cena and Randy Orton, he can beat Edge without breaking a sweat. Sheamus tells Edge to go to Smackdown so he doesn’t have his Wrestlemania moment ruined and he gets put back on the shelf . . . for good.
Sheamus hits Edge with the microphone and then he sets for the bicycle kick and Edge moves out of the way. Edge takes Sheamus down and he kicks and punches Sheamus. Edge takes off his jacket and then he waits for Sheamus to get up for the spear and Edge hits it.

Shatner wants to know if Lawler is okay. Shatner says that he has had a great time tonight. Now he gets to introduce a fellow Canadian, Bret Hart.
Bret comes to the ring. He says that it was a month ago that he was here and he has had a month to think about things and put everything in perspective. He came here for all the right reasons. Twelve years is a long time and it took him that long to come to Raw in open arms and try to make peace. People told him he was crazy and everyone warned him. Bret says that he was too naïve that he could put it all behind him. Bret admits that he was wrong and he says that it does not sit well with him. Bret says that he didn’t come here for peace or for closure. He came to talk to Vince McMahon face-to-face. Bret tells Vince to come to the ring or he will go find Vince in the back. Bret tells Vince that he doesn’t like to have to wait because it makes him madder.
Vince’s music plays and he comes out and he is having a spasm on the stage before he does the Vintage Vince Power Walk to the ring. Vince tells Bret that he wants to get a few things off his chest. He says that he never regretted a thing he has said or done to Bret. Bret congratulates Vince for finally being honest with him. Bret calls Vince McMahon the world’s greatest liar. He says that Vince lied to him in Montreal, he lied to him when he was kicked in the gut last month, he lied to him when Vince said that he was proud of Bret, and he lied when Vince said he was like a father. Bret mentions John Cena’s comments last week when he called Vince pathetic. Bret says that he knows about pathetic. Bret mentions that it was eight years ago that he was in a wheelchair after suffering a stroke. Bret says that he remembers sitting in that chair feeling pathetic. He said that he would get out of that wheelchair and he would never feel pathetic again.
Bret says that he came here last month for all the right reasons, but Vince kicked him in the gut and he felt pathetic. Bret says that he worked for Vince for 14 years and he did everything. Bret says that he thought Vince would appreciate it some time. Bret says that it took him twenty years to build a reputation and Vince only needed three minutes to destroy it. Bret says that he has enough flavor left in his ‘piece of chewing gum’ to kick Vince’s ass.
Vince hems and haws and he tells Bret that he wants to be honest with Bret. Vince goes through all of Bret’s nicknames and then he calls it all a crock. Vince makes a face after talking about how Bret is considered a Canadian hero. Vince says that Bret is not a hero to anyone. Vince says that he doesn’t know what it is about Bret that the people support him. Vince says that the people love him, but he thinks that Bret is pathetic. Bret has zero personality. Vince compares Bret to his opponents who had a personality and then says that if it wasn’t for them, Bret would be a footnote in the midcard. He says that Bret has no charisma, no command of the English language, a hound dog looking face, stringy and crappy hair, and he dresses like a hobo. Vince has some more to say. He tells Bret that while Bret and him know it, Bret deserves to be screwed. Vince says that he has one thing to say. Vince said that he told Bret that he was thinking of nominating Bret’s father Stu for the Hall of Fame. Vince says that isn’t going to happen because Stu doesn’t deserve it.
Bret kicks Vince and then it turns into a hockey fight as he pulls Vince’s jacket over his head and Bret punches Vince some more. Bret tries to put Vince in the Sharpshooter, but Batista comes to the ring and he stops Bret. Batista punches Bret and then he holds Bret for Vince and Vince yells at Bret and then spits in Bret’s face.
