1967 - Pat O'Conner &
Wilbur Snyder defeats Harley Race & Chris Markoff for the AWA World Tag Team
Title in Chicago, Illinois. Markoff was a substitute for Larry Hennig, who had
his leg "broken" by Verne Gagne.
1972 - Lorenzo Parente & Bobby Hart defeat Jerry Lawler & Jim White to win the NWA Mid-America Tag Team Title in Nashville, Tennessee.
1984 - At a WWF house show in Salt Lake City, Utah, WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan defeats Rowdy Roddy Piper via countout in their very first singles encounter.
1987 - Matt Borne defeats Ted Arcidi in Midland, Texas to win the World Class Texas Heavyweight Title.1993 -
WCW holds the Clash of the Champions XXV at the Bayfront Center in St.
Petersburg, Florida. Here are the results of the show, which aired live on TBS:
- WCW International World Champion Rick Rude vs. Road Warrior Hawk ended in a
double countout.
- The Shockmaster defeated The Equalizer with a bearhug
slam.
- WCW Television Champion Steven Regal defeated Johnny B. Badd with a
rollup and a handful of tights after Badd was distracted by Sir William (Bill
Dundee).
- Steve Austin defeated Brian Pillman after Col. Parker (Robert
Fuller) shoved Pillman off the top rope.
- WCW United States Champion Dustin
Rhodes defeated Paul Orndorff with a small package.
- The Nasty Boys defeated
Sting & Davey Boy Smith when Knobbs pinned Smith. Rick Rude attacked Smith
before the match, so Sting fought most of the bout alone. When Smith got in, he
powerslammed Knobbs, but Saggs elbowed Smith in the back of the neck (which Rude
had focused his attack on) and Knobbs got the pin.
- Ric Flair defeated WCW
World Champion Vader via DQ when Vader hit the referee.
1997 - Less than a month after their classic Halloween Havoc match, Eddie Guerrero defeats Rey Mysterio, Jr. with a frog splash to regain the WCW Cruiserweight Title in Memphis, Tennessee. Also during this edition of Nitro, the NWO came to the ring and sang "Oh Canada" and welcomed Bret Hart to the New World Order (even though Hart didn't actually appear on the show).
1997 - One night after the infamous Montreal Screwjob, Raw broadcast from the Corel Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Chants of "We Want Bret" rang out through the night, and a "Bulls***" chant greeted Shawn Michaels as he cut a promo about how he beat Bret Hart "with his own hold" and sent him "down South with the rest of the dinosaurs".
2000 - Lance Storm defeats Gen. Rection (Hugh Morrus/Bill DeMott) for the WCW United States Heavyweight Title in London, England, starting Storm's third, and final, reign with the belt.
2009 - Jamie Noble announces his retirement as an active wrestler to work as a producer (agent) for World Wrestling Entertainment. A storyline beatdown by Sheamus on Raw was used to set up his retirement.
2010 - PWInsider.com broke that TNA signed Kevin Nash, although he would not return to TV during the time period he was signed. Nash denied our report, but when he returned to WWE in January 2011, TNA President Dixie Carter noted that she had granted Nash a release from his deal
2010 - Michael B. Solomon, who had been a Director of World Wrestling
Entertainment, Inc. since August 2001, has stepped down from the position.
Solomon, 62, is managing partner of Gladwyne Partners LLC. No reason has been
given as to why he has stepped down.
