TAYLOR WILDE DISCUSSES HER DECISION AND REASONS FOR RETIRING, SHOWING A FORESIGHT OFTEN LOST IN PRO WRESTLING

By Mike Johnson on 2011-01-10 11:57:14
Former TNA Knockouts champion Taylor Wilde discussed her decision to retire from professional wrestling with The UK Sun today, noting that she had made a decision a long time ago that if she wasn't making enough money to where her career could set her financially for life by the time she was 25, she needed to walk away. Wilde turns 25 later this month, according to the article.

Wilde was quick to point out that it was a personal decision based on her own personal goals, not something that was to be blamed on TNA, where she was used haphazardly the last several months of her run, despite holding the Knockouts Tag Team championships with Ayako Hamada.

"I had a couple of months left on my contract, but I made a decision pretty much when I first started working for a major wrestling company (WWE) that wrestling is a wonderful job, it's a lot of fun and you get to travel the world. In my early twenties it was very lucrative, but I told myself that when I was 25, if it was an industry I could see myself doing for the rest of my life I'd keep going, but otherwise it was time to hang up my boots."

Taylor also noted that she didn't want to be like others in the business who spend their entire lives in it without something to fall back on, commenting, "I did a couple of conventions not that long ago where I was surrounded by women who had been somebody. Recognizable wrestling faces. They'll do autograph signings pregnant, because it's what they have to do to earn money. At the end of the day, as much as I love professional wrestling, if I were to retire when I was 40, and all I had done my whole life was yelling at a camera, wearing really tiny wrestling gear and punching other people in the face, it wouldn't look so good on a CV."

Wilde noted that she was studying psychology and wouldn't rule out a return if "the right financial offer" came along, but not until after she was done with her degree.
