The interview starts off with James Guttman introducing Fifi, who immediately starts speaking in French. JG laughs and mentions how most fans don't even know if she speaks English...but luckily for the interview, she does. The former WCW Fifi is, in real life, Wendy Barlow. Despite rumors that she's been played by so many different people, Wendy's the real deal. Due to the time she got out of wrestling - right before the Internet took off - very little information is available about her online. Like another former ClubWWI.com guest, Oscar from Men on a Mission, even her real name isn't easy to find. Barlow responds:
"Isn't that sad? I am alive! Fifi is alive. I've been put on the shelf for a long time and I want to make one thing clear because a lot of people probably don't understand this - but I am the only Fifi out there on wrestling. There has never been anybody else and I've come across names of people out there who, I guess, they wanted to give credit to, but it is only me - Wendy Barlow. I was the only character."
Guttman explains that he was up late one night searching around for rare guests online when he came across a message board debating what had happened to Fifi. There was a post from someone saying, "I'm the real Fifi." James discounted it figuring it was "some weird dude pretending." But when Wendy posted her facebook fan page - available at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/FiFi-from-Wrestling/281035113452 - he took one look at her pics and knew it was her. James mentions how she's barely aged and they discuss the lengths she's gone to keep herself in shape, the work she's done since wrestling, and more. She then reveals her reasons for walking away to ClubWWI.com listeners
"I took off and decided that I wanted to use some of my education to teach high school actually. So I put wrestling aside, thinking that one day I would come back. And eventually just enjoyed teaching, went on, did some things. I also continued with modeling. But eventually decided, hey, I want to get back into things, see what's going on. And I actually went to work on a couple of movies and the most recent one is 'The Joneses' with Demi Moore, David Duchovny, Gary Cole, and a few other cast members. It's an all star cast and it comes out nationwide this Friday, April 16th."
More information on the film is available at www.TheJonesesMovie.com. Wendy goes on to discuss her students recognizing her, the denials of being Fifi, how they found out the truth, the similarities between wrestling and teaching, what she taught all wrestling fans during his run on WCW's Flair for the Gold, and more.
While fans can catch Wendy Barlow this Friday in the Joneses, many wonder about pro wrestling. Will we ever see a return of Fifi the Maid to the business? Currently scheduled to appear at the NWA Legends Convention this August, she's been thinking about a return to the business. Given her time away from the industry and the friends she still has in it, the chances are good. She explains it to ClubWWI.com listeners...
"It was probably one of the best things I did at the time to move on and choose my career path, but at this time in my life, I think I'm ready to go back and do a few things. Fifi is not dead. She's still alive and she's ready to get back out there and continue her story. There's a lot of opportunities. My next stop - TNA Wrestling. That's where I want to head. So we'll see what happens from there. After that, I can only go where? Dancing with the Stars. They have to call me."
Wendy's 30 minute interview goes on from there and it's your first ever chance to catch up with the most mysterious female star in wrestling history. She also has a ClubWWI.com return planned for after her appearance at the NWA Legends Convention, to tell more stories from her time with WCW.
