1939 - Dick Raines defeats Dean Detton in Honolulu, Hawaii to win the Hawaii Junior Heavyweight Title.

1953 - Enrique Torres defeats Ray Eckert for the San Francisco NWA Pacific Coast Heavyweight Title in Fresno, California. This began Torres' second reign and ended Eckert's fourth.

1956 - Pepper Gomez and Luigi Macera defeat Duke Keomuka and Tiny Mills for the NWA Texas Tag Team Title in Dallas, Texas.

1957 - The Great Bolo defeats Dory Funk, Sr. to win the Amarillo NWA North American Heavyweight Title in Amarillo, Texas.

1963 - The WWWF held an event at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario, featuring an NWA World Heavyweight Title rematch between champion Lou Thesz and WWWF Champion Buddy Rogers, following their January 24 meeting in Toronto, the result of which led to the creation of the WWWF. The results were:
- Jim Hady defeated Buddy Austin.
- John Paul Henning defeated Stan Stasiak.
- Billy Red Lyons and Hans Schmidt fought to a 15-minute time-limit draw.
- The Beast defeated Fred Atkins.
- Johnny Valentine defeated Sam Steamboat.
- Gorilla Monsoon and Bruno Sammartino defeated Bulldog Brower and Taro Sukura.
- NWA World Heavyweight Champion Lou Thesz defeated WWWF World Heavyweight Champion Buddy Rogers in a two-out-of-three falls match to retain his title. Rogers' title was not at stake. Thesz won by disqualification in the first fall, Rogers pinned Thesz in the second, and Thesz pinned Rogers to win the match.

1969 - El Mongol defeats Dale Lewis in Atlanta, Georgia for the NWA Georgia Heavyweight Title, to begin his fifth reign.

1969 - Bob Ellis ends Skull Murphy's third International Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Title reign in Sydney, Australia.

1969 - Both NWA Hollywood Wrestling titles change hands in Los Angeles, California. Bobo Brazil wins his second NWA Americas Heavyweight Title, ending Freddie Blassie's second reign, and Pepper Gomez and Black Gordman defeat Paul Jones and Nelson Royal to win the NWA Americas Tag Team Title.

1970 - Johnny Barend defeats Pedro Morales for the Hawaii NWA North American Heavyweight Title, ending Morales' second reign.

1972 - Bob Brown wins the Vancouver NWA Pacific Coast Heavyweight Title for the third time, defeating Mark Lewin in Vancouver, British Columbia, ending Lewin's second reign.

1974 - The Valiant Brothers (Jimmy and Johnny) win the held-up World Wrestling Association World Tag Team Title in Indianapolis, Indiana, defeating Dick the Bruiser and Bruno Sammartino in a rematch from their January 25 match. This began the Valiants' second reign.

1976 - Mr. Fuji defeats Pat Patterson for the San Francisco NWA United States Heavyweight Title in San Francisco, California, ending Patterson's fifth reign.

1977 - The WWWF held an event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The results:
- Mil Máscaras defeated Doug Gilbert.
- Larry Zbyszko defeated Executioner #1 (Killer Kowalski).
- WWWF World Tag Team Champions Chief Jay Strongbow and Billy White Wolf defeated Tor Kamata and Nikolai Volkoff to retain the title.
- Carlos Rocha defeated Frank Monroe.
- Stan Stasiak defeated Manuel Soto.
- José Gonzalez defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna by disqualification.
- Johnny Rodz fought Pete Sanchez to a draw.
- WWWF World Heavyweight Champion Bruno Sammartino fought Ken Patera to a draw in a Texas Death match, after the referee got knocked out, to retain the title.

1977 - Porkchop Cash and Gorgeous George, Jr. defeated Bill Dundee and Ricky Gibson to win the Mid-America NWA Southern Tag Team Title in Memphis, Tennessee.

1979 - Ringo Mendoza defeats Tony Salazar in Acapulco, Mexico for the NWA World Middleweight Title, to start his fourth reign.

1981 - The WWF held an event at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The results:
- Joe Crugnale defeated Pete Doherty.
- Manuel Soto defeated Mike Striker.
- Angelo Gomez defeated Fred Marzino.
- Bruno Sammartino vs. Stan Hansen ended a double-disqualification after the referee got knocked out.
- Dominic DeNucci defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna.
- WWF Intercontinental Champion Pedro Morales defeated Larry Zbyszko.
- Steve King defeated The Black Demon.
- Rick McGraw defeated José Estrada.

1981 - Mr. Fuji and Tenryu defeat Dewey Robertson and Johnny Weaver to win the NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Title in Greensboro, North Carolina.

1983 - Tola Yatsu (Yoshiaki Yatsu) defeats The Great Kabuki for the World Class Television Title in Fort Worth, Texas.

1983 - The Sheepherders (Jonathan Boyd and Luke Williams) defeat The Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn and Stan Lane) to win the Mid-America NWA Southern Tag Team Title in Louisville, Kentucky. This began the Sheepherders' second reign and ended The Fabulous Ones' third.

1984 - The Dynamite Kid (32 points) defeats The Cobra (31) in Tokyo, Japan in the final match of a nine-man month-long round robin tournament to win the vacant WWF Junior Heavyweight Title, which had been vacated when Tiger Mask retired on August 12, 1983. Other participants in the tournament and their scores were: Baby Face (2), Bret Hart (20), Black Tiger (Mark Rocco) (22), Kuniaki Kobayashi (16), Davey Boy Smith (39), Nobuhiko Takada (4) and Isamu Teranishi (11). Cobra and Smith fought to a double-countout, with Dynamite pinning Smith after. That set up the match between Dynamite and Cobra, as they were the two remaining undefeated finalists. The Dynamite Kid vacated the title in November when the British Bulldogs left New Japan for All Japan.

1984 - Wayne Farris (The Honky Tonk Man) wins a tournament for the vacant NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Title in Mobile, Alabama.

1986 - Leo Burke and Ron Ritchie defeat Ron Starr and Wayne Farris for the Stampede International Tag Team Title in Calgary, Alberta. The title was held up right after the match, however, as Starr and Wayne ran away with the belts.

1987 - The WWF held an event at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The results were:
- Tama pinned Frenchy Martin with a flying bodypress after crawling under the ring and coming out the other side.
- Koko B. Ware pinned The Red Demon after a missile dropkick.
- Hercules (with Bobby Heenan) pinned Billy Jack Haynes after Paul Orndorff ran in and hit Haynes with a double axehandle off the top while Haynes had the full nelson on Hercules, and Heenan distracted the referee.
- Haku pinned Terry Gibbs after a diving headbutt from the middle rope.
- The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers (Jacques and Raymond) defeated WWF Tag Team Champions The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) in a non-title match, when Raymond pinned Bret after a double-team move.
- King Kong Bundy defeated Pete Doherty by disqualification after Doherty hit Bundy with a chair.
- Ricky Steamboat pinned Sika with a roll-up.
- Dino Bravo (with Johnny V) pinned Special Delivery Jones after a side suplex.
- Bruno Sammartino defeated WWF Intercontinental Champion Randy Savage by disqualification in a Lumberjack match, when King Kong Bundy, one of the lumberjacks, interfered and attacked Sammartino as he had Savage in a bearhug. Savage retained the title.

1987 - Supertowns on the Superstation, a collection of matches showcasing wrestlers from around the country wrestling in traditional wrestling hotbeds, airs on TBS. All the matches were taped throughout January. The matches shown were:
- January 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Barry Windham pinned Arn Anderson.
- January 24 in Washington, D.C.: Brad Armstrong defeated Jimmy Garvin by disqualification.
- January 30 in St. Louis, Missouri: NWA Central States Tag Team Champions The MOD Squad (Basher and Spike) defeated The Batten Twins (Bart and Brad), when Basher pinned Brad.
- January 16 in Hollywood, Florida: The Rock 'n' Roll Express (Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton) defeated Ivan Koloff and Vladimir Petrov.
- January 28 in Los Angeles, California: NWA Television Champion Tully Blanchard fought Dusty Rhodes to a double-disqualification.
- Janaury 17 in Greensboro, North Carolina: NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair fought Nikita Koloff to a double-countout in a no disqualification match to retain the title.
- January 29 in Los Angeles, California: The Road Warriors (Animal and Hawk) defeated The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) in a Scaffold match.

1987 - Bill Watts' Universal Wrestling Federation held an eight-team tournament in Fort Worth, Texas for the UWF Tag Team Title, which had been vacated on January 23. Jim Duggan, who was champion along with Terry Taylor, lost a loser-leaves-town match (in actuality he was leaving for the WWF) to One Man Gang. The results were:
First round:
- Rick Steiner and Sting defeated Chavo Guerrero and The Missing Link.
- Sam Houston and Terry Taylor defeated The Angel of Death and Terry Gordy.
- Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams defeated Eli the Eliminator and Bill Irwin.
- Chris Adams and Iceman King Parsons defeated The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts).
Semifinals:
- Rick Steiner and Sting defeated Sam Houston and Terry Taylor.
- Chris Adams and Terry Taylor defeated Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams. Adams selected Taylor as his new partner after winning a coin toss over Parsons after the two split as a team after their first match.
Finals:
- Chris Adams and Terry Taylor defeated Rick Steiner and Sting to win the vacant UWF Tag Team Title.

1988 - Shiro Koshinaka defeats Hiroshi Hase in Tokyo, Japan to win the NJPW Top of the Super Junior tournament.

1988 - El Satanico defeats Mogur for the Mexican National Middleweight Title in Mexico City, Mexico, beginning his third reign.

1989 - Larry Zbyszko last eliminates Tom Zenk in a battle royal to win the vacant AWA World Heavyweight Title in St. Paul, Minnesota. The title was stripped from Unified (AWA/CWA/World Class) World Heavyweight Champion Jerry Lawler on January 20, when the AWA ended its 10-year working relationship with Memphis' Continental Wrestling Association.

1990 - The Marine Wolves (Akira Hokuto and Suzuka Minami) defeat Grizzly Iwamoto and Aja Kong for the vacant WWWA World Tag Team Title in Osaka, Japan, beginning their second reign.

1991 - El Signo defeats Gran Hamada in Mexico City, Mexico to win the UWA World Light Heavyweight Title, ending Hamada's second reign.

1991 - Charlie Norris wins the Pro Wrestling America Heavyweight Title for the second time by defeating Terminator Rigs in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

1992 - "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer passes away from heart failure due to a drug overdose. Sawyer was born Bruce Woyan on June 14, 1959 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Sawyer wrestled all over the United States, in Georgia, Mid-Atlantic, Portland, the WWF, Mid-South, World Class and WCW, and won titles everywhere he wrestled. He had a bloody feud with Tommy Rich in Georgia, which led to the first-ever steel cage match with a roof, which has been credited as the inspiration for the WWE's Hell in a Cell cage. He also teamed up with his brother Brett in some promotions. Sawyer was just 32 years old.

1992 - Money, Inc. (Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster) defeat The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) to win the WWF Tag Team Title at a house show in Denver, Colorado. Originally announced was Money, Inc. vs. The Big Bossman and Tito Santana, and LOD defending their title against The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon). These matches were changed by WWF President Jack Tunney.

1992 - Barry Horowitz defeats Jerry Lynn in Dallas, Texas to win the Global Wrestling Federation Light Heavyweight Title.

1993 - The WWF held an event at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The results:
- Skinner defeated Jim Powers.
- Jim Brunzell defeated The Predator.
- Tito Santana defeated Damien Demento.
- Terry Taylor defeated Glen Ruth.
- The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott) defeated The Beverly Brothers (Beau and Blake).
- Kamala defeated Kimchee.
- Yokozuna defeated Randy Savage.
- Tatanka (subbing for Mr. Perfect) defeated Razor Ramon.
- Bob Backlund defeated WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels by countout.

1994 - Jerry Lawler defeats Eddie Gilbert for the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Title in Memphis, Tennessee. This ended Gilbert's third reign and began Lawler's 18th reign. At the same show, Doug Gilbert defeats Brian Christopher for the USWA Heavyweight Title, ending Christopher's ninth reign.

1994 - The SMW Television Title changes hands twice during a television taping in Jellico, Tennessee. Robbie Eagle lost the title to The Hornet (Brian Keyes), who then lost to Killer Kyle.

1997 - "Bulldog" Bob Brown, who wrestled all over Canada as well as booked for Central States Wrestling in Kansas City, Missouri, died at age 58.

1997 - The Ultimate Fighting Championship held UFC 12: Judgement Day at the Dothan Civic Center in Dothan, Alabama. This was the UFC's first event to have weight classes, heavyweight (200+ pounds) and lightweight (under 200 pounds). Four fighters from each weight class squared off in two tournaments, in addition to the other bouts on the card. The results were:
Preliminary bouts, which featured alternate fighters, who would the place of scheduled fighters in case of injury:
- Justin Martin defeated Eric Martin by submission (heel hook) at 0:14 in a heavyweight bout.
- Nick Sanzo defeated Jackie Lee by TKO (strikes) at 0:48 in a lightweight bout.
Main card bouts:
- In the first Lightweight semifinal, Jerry Bohlander defeated Rainy Martinez by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:24.
- Yoshiiki Takahashi defeated Wallid Ismail by unanimous decision after 15:00 in the other Lightweight semifinal tournament bout. Takahashi suffered a broken hand during the fight, and was unable to continue in the tournament. He was replaced by Nick Sanzo.
- Scott Ferrozzo defeated Jim Mullen by TKO (strikes) at 8:17 in the first Heavyweight semifinal.
- Vitor Belfort defeated Tra Telligman by TKO (strikes) at 1:18 in the other Heavyweight semifinal.
- Jerry Bohlander defeated Nick Sanzo by submission at 0:35 to win the UFC 12 Lightweight Tournament.
- Vitor Belfort defeated Scott Ferrozzo by TKO (strikes) at 0:52 to win the UFC 12 Heavyweight Tournament.
- Mark Coleman defeated UFC Superfight Champion Dan Severn by submission (choke) at 2:57 to become the first UFC Heavyweight Champion. The Superfight title was unified with the Heavyweight title.

1997 - Tommy Cairo defeats Derek Domino to become the first United States Extreme Wrestling North American Heavyweight Champion.

1998 - Jushin Liger defeats Shinjiro Otani in Sapporo, Japan for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title. This began Liger's ninth reign.

1998 - The Misfits (Derek Domino and Harley Lewis) defeat Twiggy Ramirez and Devon Storm to win the vacant NWA United States Tag Team Title in Somerdale, New Jersey.

1998 - Bull Pain defeats Chip Fairway in New Albany, Indiana for the IWA Mid-South Television Title, ending Fairway's second reign.

1998 - Pat and C.W. Anderson defeat Big Slam and Slash Walker to win the vacant NWA 2000 Tag Team Title in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

1998 - Mr. Main Event defeated Jimi V. and champion Brian Ireland in a three-way match to win the Global Wrestling Alliance Light Heavyweight Title in Lima, Ohio.

1999 - The WWF held an event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. 16,399 fans attended the show. The results were:
- Edge and Christian defeated Bob Holly and The Blue Meanie.
- Al Snow defeated Goldust.
- The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff) and Jacqueline defeated D'Lo Brown, Mark Henry and Luna.
- WWF Tag Team Champions Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett defeated The Godfather and Val Venis.
- The Undertaker and The Acolytes (Bradshaw and Faarooq) defeated D-Generation X (Billy Gunn, WWF Hardcore Champion Road Dogg and WWF European Champion X-Pac), when The Undertaker pinned Road Dogg. Road Dogg suffered a neck injury during the match at one point, when he was thrown from the ring to the floor. He would be out of action for nearly a month.
- Ken Shamrock defeated Steve Blackman and Dan Severn by disqualification in a three-way match.
- Kane defeated Triple H.
- Steve Austin defeated WWF Champion Mankind, The Big Bossman and The Rock in a four-way match.

1999 - In Yokohama, Japan, Toryumon held a six-man tournament for the vacant NWA World Middleweight Title, which had been vacated by Ultimo Dragon due to injury. The results:
Semifinals:
- Magnum TOKYO defeated Judo SUWA.
- The Great Sasuke defeated Gran Naniwa
- Shiima Nobunaga defeated Sasuke the Great.
Finals:
- The Great Sasuke defeated Magnum TOKYO to win the vacant NWA World Middleweight Title. This match was originally scheduled to be a three-way final, but Shiima Nobunaga was injured in his match with Sasuke the Great and was unable to compete in the final.

1999 - Jebediah Blackhawk and Cousin Otter defeat David C. and Damaja for the OVW Southern Tag Team Title in Jeffersonville, Indiana, ending and beginning both team's second reigns. At the same show, Nick Dinsmore defeats Rod Steele for the OVW Heavyweight Title, but gave the title back to Rogers after he found out there was outside interference in the match.

1999 - The Ghetto Mafia (2-Dope & Sydeswype) defeat champions Earl the Pearl & Stevie Richards and Joey Matthews & Quinn Nash in a three-way match to win the Maryland Championship Wrestling Tag Team Title in Dundalk, Maryland.

2000 - The Monday Night War continued, with WWF RAW is WAR winning over WCW Monday Nitro, 6.5 to 2.7 in the ratings. The results:
- Norman Smiley defeated Evan Karagias.
- The Wall pinned Booker T.
- Tank Abbott defeated The Barbarian.
- David Flair defeated Terry Funk in a I Quit match.
- Stevie Ray pinned Disco Inferno.
- Bam Bam Bigelow pinned WCW Hardcore Champion Brian Knobbs to win the title.
- Billy Kidman pinned The KISS Demon.
- WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sid Vicious pinned Scott Hall.

WWF RAW is WAR was held live from Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas. The results were:
Dark matches:
- Papi Chulo (Essa Rios) pinned Funaki.
- Mean Dog Brown pinned Action Jackson.
- Mideon pinned Steve Bradley.
Jakked:
- Mosh pinned Albert.
- The Big Bossman pinned Gangrel.
- WWF European Champion Val Venis pinned Joey Abs.
RAW is WAR:
- WWF Tag Team Champions The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) defeated Edge and Christian, when Road Dogg pinned Christian after The Dudley Boyz interfered.
- Kurt Angle defeated Mark Henry by disqualification when Mae Young interfered, with Angle Olympic Slamming Mae after the match.
- The Hollys (Crash and Hardcore) defeated The Acolytes (Bradshaw and Faarooq) in a hardcore match, after Viscera interfered, while all four men were fighting at a concession stand.
- WWF Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho defeated Viscera by disqualification when The Hollys interfered. The Acolytes made the save after the match.
- WWF Women's Champion Jacqueline pinned Luna (with Gangrel) with a German suplex.
- The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) defeated D'Lo Brown and The Godfather, after the 3D on D'Lo. Edge and Christian and The Hardy Boyz fought off the Dudleys after the match.
- The Radicalz (Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn (with Eddie Guerrero)), WWF Champion Triple H (with Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) and X-Pac (with Tori) defeated Cactus Jack, The Rock, Rikishi and Too Cool (Grandmaster Sexay and Scotty 2 Hotty), when Benoit pinned Sexay after a diving headbutt after Triple H gave Sexay a Pedigree. After the match, DX, now joined by The New Age Outlaws, and The Radicalz attacked their opponents until Kane came out and made the save. This was Kane's first television appearance since he was dumped by Tori in favor of X-Pac two weeks earlier on SmackDown!.

2001 - Blaze wins his second IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Title, defeating Cash Flo in Charlestown, Indiana.

2003 - Chris Hero defeats CM Punk for the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Title in Clarksville, Indiana, ending Punk's fourth reign and beginning Hero's third.

2004 - José Rivera, Jr. defeats Vengador Boricua to win the vacant WWC Puerto Rico Heavyweight Title in Caguas, Puerto Rico, to begin his seventh reign.

2004 - Masato Tanaka defeats Jerry Lynn to become the first Pro Wrestling WORLD-1 Heavyweight Champion in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

2004 - Jammer wins the NWA Mid-America X Division Title for the second time, defeating Insane Shane in Columbia, Tennessee.

2004 - Jimmy Olsen defeats Chip Stetson for the vacant NWA Upstate Kayfabe Dojo Title in Rochester, New York.

2007 - OVW held their weekly television taping at Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky. The results were:
Dark matches:
- Adam Evans defeated Low Rider.
- Kofi Kingston and Harry Smith defeated The Belgium Brawler and Nicholas Sinn
- Steve Lewington defeated Anthony Vain.
- OVW Women's Champion Katie Lea defeated Victoria Crawford.
- Vladimir Kozlov defeated T.J. Dalton.
Television matches:
- Daniel Rodimer defeated Adam Evans.
- Idol Stevens defeated Justin LaRoche by disqualification.
- Jake Hager defeated Vic D. Vine.
