On this day in history in ....

- Bull Curry defeats Danny McShain in the first ever "brass knuckles match", in which closed fists are legal, in Houston, Texas.

- Johnny & Jerry Valiant defeats Tony Garea & Larry Zbyszko for the WWF Tag Team Championship in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

- Billy Robinson & Ken Lucas defeat The Assassins to win the AWA Southern Tag Team Title for the second time in Lexington, Kentucky, ending the fourth tag title run for the Assassins.

- Kerry Von Erich defeats Al Perez in Dallas, Texas to win the World Class Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Title.

- Terry Gordy & Steve Williams defeats Stan Hansen & Genichiro Tenryu in Tokyo, Japan for the All Japan Double Tag Team Title (PWF and NWA International), their first title as a duo.

- Hiroshi Hase & Kensuke Sasaki defeats Super Strong Machine & Hiro Saito for the IWGP Tag Team Championship, the second title reign for Hase & Sasaki.

- Former WWF star (and later a very short lived member of the Four Horsemen) Paul Roma makes his pro boxing debut, losing to Jerry Arentzen when his trainer, former Mike Tyson trainer Kevin Rooney, throws in the towel in the fourth.

- The Public Enemy defeat Taz & Kevin Sullivan for the ECW Tag Team Championship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  This is the first of four tag title runs for Flyboy Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge, who were arguably the first "home grown" draws for ECW.  On the same show, which was a television taping, Taz defeats Sabu for the ECW Television Title, only to lose it later that night to J.T. Smith.

- Lex Luger defeats Johnny B. Badd for the WCW World Television Title in Macon, Georgia.

- Vader defeats Akira Taue to win the All Japan Triple Crown, which had been vacated by Toshiaki Kawada.  Kawada had broken his arm during his title win over Mitsuharu Misawa on January 22nd.  At the same show, Jumbo Tsuruta, who had his career slowed down following a bout with Hepatitis, announced his retirement.  Tsuruta revealed that he was also leaving Japan to become a professor in Portland, Oregon.

- Michael Hayes wins the Memphis Power-Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Title by pinning champion Baldo (A-Train) in Jonesboro, Arkansas in a tag team match.

- Jushin Liger & El Samurai defeat Minoru Tanaka & Koji Kanemoto to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Title in Ota Ward Gymnasium when the doctor stopped the match as Liger was beating on Kanemoto.

- Messiah defeats John Zandig in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to win the Combat Zone Wrestling World Heavyweight Title in a Taipei Board Death Match.  This marked the end of Zandig's sixth title reign, and the beginning of Messiah's third.

- During an edition of Raw from Birmingham, Alabama, a pregnant Stephanie McMahon fakes stomach pains to get Shawn Michaels to leave his dressing room to get her something to drink, allowing Stephanie to slip a mysterious substance into Michaels' water bottle.  Later that night, as Michaels was wrestling Shane McMahon, he became drowsy and Shane defeated him with a punch to the head. Shane then announced that Michaels had a second match on the show, and Vince McMahon pinned the unconscious Michaels.  Vince was then lifted on the shoulders of the Spirit Squad and paraded around the ring in celebration.
