On this day in history in ....
1964 - Gene Kiniski & Waldo Von Erich defeated Dr. Jerry & Crazy Luke Graham for the WWWF Tag Team Title in Washington, D.C.
1993 - Jeff Jarrett defeated Brian Christopher for the USWA Southern Heavyweight title in Memphis, Tennessee, starting his seventh run with the belt, and ending Christopher's seventh reign.
1996 - The Equalizer defeated Eddie Bruiser for the SSW Heavyweight Title.
1998 - ECW held their 4th ever Pay-per-view event, "Living Dangerously", at the Convention Center in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Here are the results from the show:
- Jerry Lynn & Chris Chetti defeated Tracey Smothers & Little Guido, with Tommy Rich, when Rich accidentally hit Smothers with a flagpole, and Lynn rolled him up for the pin. After the match, Smothers and Rich got into a shoving contest, but Guido broke it up.
- Masato Tanaka, making his ECW debut, defeated Doug Furnas (subbing for Wing Kanemura), with Lance Wright. Towards the end of the match, Wright kept telling Furnas to continue to beat Tanaka, rather than go for the pin, but it allowed Tanaka to hit the Roaring Elbow for the win. Following the match, Wright (who in the storyline was working for "Stamford") told Furnas he was a disappointment, and that he would never work on "Monday Night Raw". Furnas punched out Wright, and put on an ECW T-Shirt.
- Rob Van Dam defeated 2 Cold Scorpio. With the referee down, Scorpio hit the 450 splash, but Sabu ran in and gave Scorpio a Arabian Facebuster from the top rope. Sandman ran out to fight Sabu out of the building, while Van Dam used a bodyscissors rollup to pin Scorpio. They shook hands after the match, but Scorpio then attacked Van Dam. Sabu and Sandman came in, and Sandman gave Sabu a rana off the top rope through the edge of a table. Sandman and Scorpio then celebrated with beers while dancing in the ring.
- New Jack & Spike Dudley defeated Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley and Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten in a Three Way Dance. The Dudley Boyz eliminated Mahoney & Rotten when Mahoney was pinned with the 3D. New Jack and Spike then hit the Dudleys with guitars, Spike hit D-Von with the Acid Drop, and New Jack followed with the 187 Flying Chair for the win.
- Tommy Dreamer defeated Justin Credible with a DDT in a match that saw interference from Jason, Nicole Bass, Beulah and Mikey Whipwreck.
- Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Taz to win the ECW Television Title. The finish saw Taz on Bigelow's back applying the Tazmission, when Bigelow dropped back, sending both men through the mat. Bigelow crawled out of the hole in the ring, then pulled Taz out and pinned him. Even years later, the shot of Bigelow and Taz going through the mat to the floor is remembered as a classic ECW moment.
- While the hole in the ring was repaired (actually, they just covered that corner with Police tape), the PPV audience was told that Al Snow vs. Kronus was canceled. The Sabu vs. Sandman "Dueling Canes" match was shown. This match was taped earlier in the day with the idea that it was "too violent" for Pay-per-view, but they were showing it anyway.
- Sabu pinned the Sandman. Rob Van Dam, dressed in Sabu garb and with his hair over his face, attacked Sandman to start the match, then the real Sabu came in to attack him from behind. Sabu and Van Dam put Sandman through a table set up on the entrance ramp with simultaneous top rope legdrops, and rolled him into the ring for the pin.
- Al Snow & Lance Storm defeated Shane Douglas & Chris Candido, with Francine. Originally, Storm's partner was Tammy "Sunny" Sytch, with the idea that Candido would never hit his estranged girlfriend. However, Sytch turned on Storm at the start of the bout. Al Snow then entered, with the idea that Storm knew Sytch would turn, and was prepared for it by having Snow to back him up. Snow knocked Douglas into the hole in the ring at one point, and pinned him with the Snowplow.
2002 - Radio personality (and Hulk Hogan buddy) Bubba The Love Sponge wrestled and defeated Mike Moran of the Texas Hangmen with a big splash during a WWF event in Tampa, Florida with Gerald Brisco as the referee. For those curious, yes, Hogan was on the show, defeating Rikishi.
2004 - During an edition of Raw from Atlanta, Georgia, The Rock made a surprise return, helping Mick Foley run off Randy Orton, Ric Flair and Batista and setting up a three on two handicap match for Wrestlemania XX which would turn out to be Rock's last official match (to date) for WWE.
2005 - During a Smackdown taping in Albany, New York, Orlando Jordan defeats John Cena to win the U.S. Heavyweight Title.
