THIS DAY IN HISTORY: BENOIT AND GUERRERO DEBUT ON RAW, GIANT BABA PASSES AWAY AND MORE

1972 - WWWF ran at Madison Square Garden in New York City with  Chief Jay Strongbow defeating Freddie Blassie via disqualification and WWWF World Champion Pedro Morales defeated Professor Toru Tanaka when Tanaka threw salt at Morales, but the champion ducked and the salt hit the referee instead.

1986 - The Mid-South Wrestling North American Heavyweight Title is held up following a match between champion Dick Slater and challenger Jake Roberts in Houston, Texas. Roberts would later win a rematch to claim the title.

1992 - The Dark Patriot (Doug Gilbert) defeats The Patriot (Del Wilkes) to win the Global Wrestling Federation North American Heavyweight Title in Dallas, Texas.

1992 - WWF ran at Madison Square Garden in New York City, featuring what would turn out to be the final MSG appearances of Kerry Von Erich and Miss Elizabeth. Here are the results:
- Rick Martel defeated Kerry Von Erich by using the ropes for leverage.
- Shawn Michaels defeated Jimmy Snuka with a back suplex following a superkick. 
- Sid Justice defeated The Mountie with a poerbomb.
- The Warlord defeated Hercules with a powerslam.
- Hacksaw Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter defeated the Nasty Boys via countout after Knobbs was knocked out with Duggan's 2x4. 
- Chris Walker defeated Kato with a cross bodyblock.
- The Undertaker defeated Bret Hart after hitting him with the urn while Paul Bearer distracted the referee.
- Repo Man defeated Virgil with an elbowsmash.
- Randy Savage defeated Jake Roberts with a top rope elbowsmash.  During the match, Roberts went after Elizabeth, who was then eescorted backstage by WWF officials. 

1994 - Eddie Gilbert defeats Jerry Lawler for the USWA Unified Heavyweight Title in Memphis, Tennessee. This would be Gilbert's third run with the title, and ended Lawler's seventeenth reign. On the same card, The Moondogs defeated the Rock N' Roll Express for the USWA Tag Team Championship.

1998 - ECW holds their Hostile City Showdown event at the ECW Arena in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Here are the results:
- Jerry Lynn & Chris Chetti defeated The FBI (Little Guido & Tracey Smothers).
- Rob Van Dam & Sabu defeated Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney.
- Spike Dudley defeated Gran Naniwa.
- Justin Credible defeated Gran Hamada.
- Shane Douglas, Chris Candido & Lance Storm vs. Taz & Bam Bam Bigelow ended in a no-contest when Bigelow turned on Taz and rejoined the Triple Threat. The Triple Threat then turned on Storm.
- Al Snow defeated Doug Furnas.
- During a ten-bell salute to Tommy Dreamer's grandfather, who had recently passed away, Justin Credible interrupted and said he wished it had been Dreamer who died instead.
- Rob Van Dam & Sabu defeated The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray & D-Von), Kronus & New Jack, and Tommy Dreamer & Sandman, in a four way dance.
*D-Von pinned Kronus.
*Sabu & RVD pinned the Dudleys.
*Sabu pinned Sandman.

1999 - Shohei Baba, better known as Giant Baba, passes away from cancer at age 61. One of the three most popular wrestlers ever in Japan, Baba was a baseball player before becoming a wrestler under the teachings of Rikidozan. A huge wrestling attraction in his time, Giant Baba would go on to create All Japan Pro Wrestling, an organization which continues on to this day.

2000 - Just days after leaving WCW, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn and Eddie Guerrero debut on RAW. After initially appearing at ringside as "guests" of Cactus Jack, the foursome later turn on him, and reveal their allegiance to Triple H. The four had left WCW when Kevin Sullivan had been brought in as booker, feeling they would never get a fair chance in the company. Benoit was actually WCW World Champion when he walked out of the company. On this same historic show, Hervina (Harvey Whippleman) defeated The Kat to win the WWF Women's Title, in a "LumberJill" match.

2001 - Ohio Valley Wrestling held their Christmas Chaos event in Louisville, Kentucky at the Louisville Gardens.  The event, featuring WWE participation, was postponed from an earlier date due to a snowstorm.  Here are the results: 
- Shelton Benjamin & Brock Lesnar defeated Sly Skraper & Johnny Spade.
- Randy Orton defeated Slick Robbie D.
- Rob Conway defeated Ron Waterman.
- The Suicide Blondes defeated Sean Casey, Chris Michaels & Buddy Landell.
- Russ McCullough defeated Damaja (Doug Basham).
- Flash Flanagan & Trailor Park Trash defeated Rico Constantino & Mr. Black.
- The Big Show defeated Mark Henry.
- Matt & Jeff Hardy and Lita defeated The Disciples of Synn.
- OVW Heavyweight Champion Nick Dinsmore (Eugene) defeated Chris Benoit via disqualification when Rico Constantino interfered.
- Kane defeated Leviathon with the chokeslam after Steve Austin interfered and hit the Stunner on Leviathon.
