THIS DAY IN HISTORY: THE MOUNTIE BEATS BRET HART, TEST WINS A CHAMPIONSHIP, BRISCOE LOSES AND WINS A TITLE IN THE SAME MATCH

On this day in history in ....

1971 - Jack Brisco won and lost a title in the same match in Tampa, Florida. Brisco, the NWA Florida Television Champion, faced Tarzan Tyler, the NWA Florida Heavyweight Champion, in a two-out-of three falls match. The rules for the match stipulated that the Television Title was on the line in the first fall only, while the Heavyweight Title would go to the winner of the match. Tyler pinned Brisco in the first fall to win the Television Title. However, Brisco won the second and third falls to win the match, and claim the Heavyweight Title. So, both men went into the match with a belt, and left with a belt, but it was a different title!

1976 - The Infernos defeat The Spoilers in Caguas, Puerto Rico to win the WWC North American Tag Team Title.

1980 - Mike Sharpe defeats Mike George in Greenville, Mississippi to win the Mid-South Mississippi Heavyweight Title. This ended George's second reign with the belt and began Sharpe's second run as champion.

1980 - Tiger Jeet Singh defeats El Canek in Mexico City, Mexico to win the UWA World Heavyweight Title.

1981 - Jimmy Valiant defeats Hector Guerrero in a tournament final to win the AWA Southern Heavyweight Title for the sixth time in Memphis, Tennessee.

1982 - Tommy Rich defeats The Masked Superstar in Atlanta, Georgia to win the NWA National Heavyweight Title. This ended Superstar's second reign with the belt, and began Rich's second run with the title.

1987 - Jason The Terrible defeats Invader I in Caguas, Puerto Rico to win the WWC Television Title.

1990 - Atsushi Onita defeats Beast The Barbarian (who had been declared the first champion two weeks prior) to win the FMW World Brass Knuckles Heavyweight Title in Tokyo, Japan.

1991 - Big Van Vader defeats Tatsumi Fujinami in Yokohama, Japan to win his third IWGP World Heavyweight Title (New Japan's top prize), ending Fujinami's third reign. To date, Vader is the only non-Japanese wrestler to hold the belt three times.

1992 - At a WWF house show in Springfield, Massachusetts, The Mountie (Jacques Rougeau) defeats Bret Hart by reversing a small package to win the WWF Intercontinental Title. After the match, The Mountie repeatedly hit Hart with the title belt until Roddy Piper made the save.  On WWF television, they announced that Hart was suffering from a high fever, but insisted on wrestling the match anyway.  In truth, Hart was entering contract negotiations, and WWF wanted to get the title belt off of Hart before beginning discussions. 

1994 - WWF ran at Madison Square Garden in New York City with the following results: 
- Scott Putski defeated Iron Mike Sharpe.
- Rick Steiner vs. Ludwig Borga ended in a double countout.  Borga (aka Tony Halme) suffered an ankle injury during the bout and this ended up being his final WWF match.
- Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon defeated Jeff Jarrett via disqualification when Shawn Michaels interfered.
- WWF World Champion Yokozuna defeated Tatanka.
- The Quebecers defeated Marty Jannetty & The 1-2-3 Kid to win the WWF World Tag Team Championship after manager Johnny Polo (now known as Raven) crotched the Kid on the top rope.
- Owen Hart won a Royal Rumble.  The final four participants were Owen, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Headshrinker Fatu.  Michaels eliminated Bret by shoving him over the top rope as Hart was trying to get Fatu over.  Razor Ramon came to ringside and distracted Michaels.  Owen Hart hit Fatu with a spinkick, and Fatu fell into Michaels, knocking Michaels over the top rope to eliminate him. Owen then eliminated Fatu with a clothesline.  Post-match, the Headshrinkers went to attack Owen, but Bret & Owen fought them off. 

1999 - WCW hold's their "Souled Out" Pay-per-view at the Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia. Here are the results:
- Chris Benoit defeated Mike Enos with the Crippler Crossface.
- Norman Smiley defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Norman Conquest after throwing sawdust (the "ashes" of Chavo's wooden horse Pepe) in his eyes.
- Fit Finlay defeated Van Hammer with a tombstone piledriver.
- Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Wrath with Greetings From Asbury Park.
- Lex Luger defeated Konnan with the Human Torture Rack after Elizabeth sprayed a substance in Konnan's eyes.
- Chris Jericho defeated Perry Saturn in a "loser must wear a dress" match when referee Scott Dickinson turns over Saturn and Jericho while Saturn is attempting a small package, placing Jericho on top and counting a fast pin. Saturn had to wear a dress for 90 days, and ended up "liking it".
- WCW Cruiserweight Champion Billy Kidman defeated Rey Mysterio Jr., Psicosis, and Juventud Guerrera in a four way match.
- Ric Flair & David Flair defeated Barry Windham & Curt Hennig when David pinned Hennig after Arn Anderson hit Hennig with a crowbar. Following the match, the NWO attacked the Flairs, with Hulk Hogan whipping David with a belt. Ric Flair would later claim Hogan "took liberties" in viciously whipping Flair while he was being held down. .
- Bill Goldberg defeated Scott Hall with a spear and jackhammer in a ladder match with a tazer hung above the ring. After the match, Bigelow attacked Goldberg, and Scott Hall zapped both of them with the tazer.

2000 - During an edition of Raw from the New Haven Coliseum in Connecticut, Test defeated Big Bossman (with help from Albert) to win the WWF Hardcore Title.
