Why Live Wrestling Will Always Beat Pre-Recorded

By Kendall Jenkins on 2026-11-03 11:46:00

Everybody knows wrestling is scripted. However, despite this, watching it live always beats watching it pre-recorded.

The reason is that the viewer is unaware of the outcome. They can also react to the script in real time while watching it live.

It’s this community-based excitement that keeps live events exciting, something a pre-recorded match will never be able to replicate.

Raw Has Been Live Since 1993

Monday Night Raw went live for the very first time in January 1993, and has stayed live ever since.

When WWE moved the show to Netflix in January 2025, in a deal worth more than $5 billion for 10 years, it remained live.

Everything stayed the same because it worked. The first episode under Netflix’s deal from the Intuit Dome outside LA managed to receive 4.9 million viewers worldwide.

Collision Shows the Difference

AEW’s schedule approached wrestling in quite a different way, with arguments on both sides about whether it’s better or worse.

Dynamite is live on Wednesday. Collision is often taped the day after and held until Saturday, but the results normally reach online before the event.

In July 2026, the company recorded Collision in Boston on a Thursday night, and the full card and finishes had been published two days before it aired.

As a result, if any fans wanted to know the result of the Collision event, they could have easily found out. The tape may have been good either way, but there was no surprise if any fans did a little research.

Why Live Experiences Are Better

The reason that live experiences are better isn’t unique to wrestling; it can be said for most forms of entertainment. That’s because a live recording has two things a pre-recording doesn’t have: a known outcome and a crowd reaction.

Take any sport, for example, like football, baseball, or basketball. Live experience enhances all of these. The ability to react in real time with other fans is something a pre-recording will always fail to do.

Games are the same. Online console games allow us to experience surprises, as we don’t know what other players are going to do. Casino games online like Wonderland Luckyball run on the same principle. Nobody knows the outcome, and we are able to react to it with the dealer and others in the lobby while it’s happening in real time.

The ability to see and react to things the first time with others is the main appeal here. It adds an extra level of engagement as, of course, we hope for the best; however, anything can happen with any live event, good or bad.

Scripted but Still Live

Though live wrestling is scripted, watching it live still offers a much better experience. The reason is that we’re able to react to something new at the same moment as other fans.

WWE is the only scripted sporting event that people enjoy watching. However, watching any sport live, whether football, basketball, or rugby, offers the same level of anticipation as WWE.
