John Cena's new film Matchbox - The Movie had a world premiere screening last night at AMC Lincoln Square in NYC. Cena was in attendance. The film premieres Friday on AppleTV.
Cena will be on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon tonight to promote the film.
While appearing yesterday on The Today Show on NBC, Cena discussed the project, noting, "I was similarly apprehensive when they dropped Matchbox: The Movie in front of me. I have memories and nostalgia and an idea of what that means to me in my heart and mind. I’m like, "How are they gonna take what’s in here and put it on the page?" They did exactly what they should. The Matchbox cars are used as a conduit for nostalgia. So, even though we’ve all played with them and we all have different memories in a space in here, because it’s a unit for nostalgia that allows this gang to go on this crazy, whimsical adventure, I really am so happy that Mattel was such a great partner. You know, Skydance and Apple put together a great script, but they—it’s not a hard sell. It—it makes Matchbox what Matchbox is to most of us: a—a looking back at a simpler time."
