HOW INDEPENDENT PROMOTIONS GET MENTIONED ON PWINSIDER, WHAT CRITERIA LEADS TO THEM BEING COVERED AND MORE QUESTIONS FROM INDY PROMOTERS

By Mike Johnson on 2026-10-10 10:00:00

I was wondering how smaller promotions get mentions on PWInsider?  I am starting a promotion in Montana and would like to have it mentioned on the site when I do.  Thanks.

Once a year, I throw some variation of this on social media, but I'll throw it here.  It's basically a quick FAQ for independent promoters, based on past inquiries - all of these are legitimate former questions [not sent by the promoter in question above.]

Will you plug my indy show?

Yes, see below.

Can I buy advertising on PWInsider?

Yes.  You can.  Email me - MikeJohnsonPWInsider@gmail.com.

How can I get my press releases on your site?

Email me a press release.  That means a real PR, not a link to your Facebook page, Twitter account or a graphic.  An actual press release.  We are happy to run them at PWInsiderXTRA.com especially but make sure you they have the date, the venue, the address, how to buy tickets, the card/talents and a weblink for additional information.  If not, someone who reads it may not be able to find out more details and actually may not be able to attend.  Put ALL the info out there!  You would be shocked how many I've seen that don't even explain where to buy tickets or where the show is.

I sent you a link to my social media but you didn't run it?  Why?

See above.  We are not going to just mindlessly post links to FB or Twitter or IG accounts.  Spend 5 minutes writing the press release and send it out to the world.

Why did you cover X promotion and not my promotion?

Why did you book one finish and not the other?  Usually, if I am covering an independent, it means I thought the show was interesting and/or I had the downtime to do it.  I would love to cover 25 shows a week but I can't sit there watching 25 shows x 3-4 hours a week.  I would fall apart, my brain would melt and I would be done and then who would you ask these questions to?

Does this mean you won't cover my show ever?

No, it does not.  I love indy wrestling.  It's the purest part of professional wrestling.  Why wouldn't I want to spotlight that?  But, there's only so much a person can do, especially with the onslaught of content the larger scale companies put out a week.

Will you come to my show?

I would love to, but I have other life responsibilities beyond wrestling.   If I can and especially if you are local, I'd sure love to.  There are a lot of promotions I would love to go see, but there's only so much time in the week.  I love AIW in Cleveland for example, but have never been there live because everything is so ridiculously expensive these days.  I miss going to Philly as much as I used to, but again, everything is ridiculously expensive.    House of Glory is a great promotion in NYC but I haven't been able to get there in some time.  It sucks but it's life currently.

What do you need to do live coverage from my show?

Nothing really.  A table, a few chairs, a place to see the ring and a place to plug in.  Easy.

Do you want to do commentary on my show?

No.  Call Lenny Leonard or someone who would be good at it.  I have zero interest in such a thing, because I know I wouldn't be good and don't want to waste anyone's time.   Book Lenny!

Why are you big leaguing me?

I am not.  I am being a reasonable adult.  We are happy to help if we can, but you also have to help us and your potential fans by giving us the proper details and information.
