AEW Dynamite was recorded earlier today at the OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow, Scotland. Our commentary team is Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.
Will Ospreay kicks off the show by coming to the ring with a mic. He says that a year ago, he was going in for surgery, and there have been ups and downs, doubt, and now he wonders if he can win the big one. He says he is asked what it is like to go for the title, and he talks about what it is like to be a British wrestler and how he traveled all around the UK. He goes over working in the indies and having to have a day job. He talks about working with big-name British wrestlers.
He then turns to Kenny Omega and says he’s not there tonight. He says no one alive respects Omega more than him, but the respect went out the window the minute Omega mentioned his son. Sunday, he is going to give Omega the match of his life; the stadium will have memories to last a lifetime, and Omega shouldn’t mess with the father of a boy. He finishes by saying it is time to bring the title home, and Omega will help him show that heroes are ordinary people who can do extraordinary things.
Jon Moxley vs. Claudio Castagnoli - Continental Cup Tournament match
They start with a Greco-Roman knuckle lock and go to mat work, and Claudio gets a one count after taking Mox down. He gets a few pin counts as Mox fights from underneath. They work to their feet, and Claudio forces them to the corner, and they break clean. Mox gets a chop, and Claudio returns it and lays in uppercuts and chops around the ring. They move to the center of the ring and trade shots. Claudio takes Mox down, and they return to mat grappling.
Mox gets a judo throw, and they fight into the ropes. They fight through the ropes, and Mox drops to the floor. Claudio joins him, and Mox gets a double-leg takedown into a figure four on the floor. Claudio gets a double-leg into a giant swing into the barricade as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Claudio has been working over Mox’s arm through the break. Mox is able to get a rear chinlock, and Claudio shoves him to the corner. Claudio lays in a series of blows. Claudio sets for a Neutralizer, but Mox gets a back body drop, but Claudio lands on his head, and Mox sends Claudio to the floor. Mox dives onto Claudio. Claudio is rolled into the ring, and Mox gets a clothesline in the corner before getting 11 in the corner. Claudio carries Mox out and tries for a back body drop. Mox goes for a sunset flip, and Claudio picks him up and starts with uppercuts.
Mox gets a big boot, and they fight back and forth until they both are knocked down. When they get to their feet, they go back to throwing hands. Mox gets a series of unanswered blows, then Claudio does the same, and Mox is dropped to the mat. Mox gets a cutter after fighting off a backslide. Claudio gets a drop step and goes for an arm bar. Mox rolls through, and Claudio holds on for a swing with a headlock.
Claudio goes for a sleeper hold, but Mox escapes quickly and rolls into a cross arm breaker. Claudio fights it off, and Mox switches to a leg scissor submission. Claudio frees himself and gets the giant swing. Claudio goes for a sharpshooter, and Mox grabs him for a two count. Claudio gets an uppercut and covers for two. Claudio gets a diving uppercut and knocks Mox out of the ring.
Mox gets back in the ring at 9, and Claudio gets a curb stomp followed by a Neutralizer for two. Claudio goes for an uppercut, and Mox drops to the mat to avoid it. Claudio tries to pick Mox up, and Mox gets a Paradigm Shift for one. Mox gets a Death Rider for two. Mox goes for a bulldog choke, and Claudio drops to the mat. Claudio goes out.
Winner and going to the Continental Cup Finals: Jon Moxley
The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) with Adam Copeland vs. The Don Callis Family (Brian Cage, Jake Doyle, and Rocky Romero)
Cage and Doyle start the match and lock up. They run the ropes, and Doyle withstands a shoulder tackle from Cope. Cope does it again, and they trade shoulder tackles. Matt tags in, and he and Cope hit Doyle with a double back elbow. Cage tags in, Nick gets in the ring, and they hit a double bulldog on Doyle and Cage. Rocky gets into the ring, and they double-team him. Cage is knocked off the apron to the floor.
Nick backflips onto Cage on the floor, and Cage catches him and drops him on the apron as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Nick has been the babyface in peril, and Nick counters a stalling vertical suplex from Cage. Nick crawls to his corner, and Cage knocks Matt and Cope off the apron. Nick superkicks his way out of the Family’s corner, but no one is there to tag. Cage picks up Nick and takes him to the second turnbuckle, and Nick makes it a hurricanrana. Nick goes for the tag, and Cope tags himself in and runs wild.
Doyle counters Cope’s spear, which brings in the Bucks, and the tag team siren goes off, and everyone is in the ring. Quickly, the Family takes out the Bucks, and Cope is left for Doyle to work him over. Rocky gets Sliced Bread on Cope for two. The Bucks take out Doyle and Rocky on the floor and then get into the ring for Young Buckery on Cage. They send Cage and Doyle to the floor and fight with them there.
Cope is left in the ring with Rocky, and he hits a spear for the pin and the win.
Winners: The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) with Adam Copeland
Christian Cage comes out and says the Bucks need to sit down and shut up while he does his business. He says he does not associate with people below him, and while they are good, Cage and Cope are legends. Cage says some people are calling it a dream match, but it’s just another day at the office for him.
Nick says they have named a company after the Young Bucks. He says they accidentally superkicked him, but if he doesn’t shut up, it won’t be an accident. They have words; Christian hits a low blow; Christian is superkicked; and finally, Cope spears Nick.
We get Willow Nightingale’s music, but we see in the back and Mercedes Mone has attacked Willow, who is down. Mone says that is Willow's last night as Champion on Dynamite. She has taken Willow’s chance to talk to her fans, her hand, and then her title at All In.
Renee is with Don Callis and Mark Davis, and Don says that Davis is in the Casino Gauntlet Match where he will get revenge on Andrade El Idolo and go on to win the world title.
We then get Andrade’s entrance music, but it cuts off for MJF’s entrance music, and he comes to the ring. He says it’s great to be in Ireland, and he then heels the crowd. He paid off a couple of gentlemen to take out Andrade El Idolo. He mocks Andrade and says there are no hot women to take a picture with, but he says the woman in the front row is an American four, but a ten in Scotland. Andrade takes the woman’s place and attacks MJF and beats him down in the ring. MJF bails and backs up the ramp to the back.
Kyle O’Reilly vs. Nigel McGuinness - Continental Cup Tournament Match
They highlight that Nigel has an injured foot.
They quickly move to mat wrestling, and Nigel locks Kyle’s feet in place with his own, but can’t drop Kyle back down. Kyle does the same, and Nigel works out of it. Kyle gets an arm bar takedown, and then when Nigel is up, he gets a snapmare. They work arm bars back and forth. Nigel grabs the ref’s arm and puts it on Kyle’s shoulder, and Kyle grabs to go for a hold but sees it is the ref and lets go. Nigel gets a rollup for two.
Kyle starts with a kick, and Nigel gets a series of cross chops and a headbutt. Nigel goes for another headbutt, and Kyle gets a guillotine. Kyle sweeps the leg, and Nigel tries to roll to the ring to recover. Kyle is already there and pulls him to the floor and then gets advice onto him from the apron as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Kyle has worked over Nigel’s arm. Kyle finally starts to work over the ankle, and Nigel is having trouble with the leg. Kyle has a leg-based ankle lock, and Nigel fights his way free by attacking Kyle’s leg. Nigel drops Kyle and makes sure Kyle lands on his elbow.
Nigel tries for a comebacker lariat, but Kyle breaks it and then hits a PK and goes for a cross arm breaker. Kyle rolls through into an ankle lock, and Nigel goes to the ropes. Kyle stomps on the ankle. Nigel tries for the Tower of London on the ropes, and Kyle escapes into a sleeper. Nigel rolls back into a pin for two. Kyle rolls through for two. They throw hands in the middle of the ring. Kyle gets a comebacker waistlock into an O’Connor roll for two. Nigel reverses for two, and Kyle captures the arm on Nigel. Nigel rolls through into a crossface, and Kyle rolls through immediately. Nigel gets a crossface again, and Kyle hammers the ankle. Kyle rolls into an ankle lock. Nigel gets to the ropes for the break.
They throw hands again, and Nigel gets a comebacker lariat for two. Nigel grabs the London Dungeon, and Kyle has to tap out.
Winner and going to the Continental Cup Finals: Nigel McGuinness.
They shake hands and hold each other’s arms up after the match.
In the back, Renee is with Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher. Don says that he knows he has alpha athletes, and their job is to run the play, and Kyle says he will run the play. Kazuchika Okada shows and reminds Kyle to think of Family instead of himself.
Persephone and Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne and Lena Kross) vs. Maya World and the Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor)
Bayne and Maya start by locking up, and Bayne shoves her back. Maya gets a headlock, and Bayne shoves her into the ropes and gets a shoulder tackle. Bayne gets a belly-to-belly suplex and then a series of shoulder thrusts in the corner. Kross tags in and stomps her down. Persephone tags in and gets a running back elbow. Naya avoids the next elbow and tags in Windsor. Hayter tags in and they double-team Persephone. The Dominion is knocked to the floor, and they charge into Persephone in the corner, and Maya joins in.
Hayter and Windsor get a tandem suplex on Persephone, and Maya hits a moonsault. Hayter covers for two as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return, Hayter has become the babyface in peril. Windsor breaks up a pin, and they throw hands with the Dominion until all of them are taken out. Maya and Persephone are both tagged in, and Maya runs wild on Persephone, ending with a leg drop for two. Bayne gets into the ring, and Maya gets a casadora into a stunner. From here, each person takes out the last person in the ring.
Persephone gets a lariat on Maya. Maya escapes out the back of a pickup and gets a second rope stunner for two as Dominion pulls Maya to the floor. Hayter gets a diving crossbody on them, and Windsor joins her. Persephone nails Maya with the TBS belt as the ref is distracted. Persephone gets a frog splash on Maya for the pin and the win.
Winners: Persephone and Divine Dominion
We then get a hype video for Kevin Knight vs. Darby Allin at All In.
Swerve Strickland w/ Prince Nana vs. Jungle Jack Perry
Swerve mocks the crowd singing to Perry’s song and then offers Perry the first shot. Perry grabs a sidelock and comes off the ropes into a shoulder tackle from Swerve. Swerve lectures Perry, and Perry pokes Swerve in the eye. Perry then hits him with a shoulder tackle. They run the ropes, and Swerve takes him down with a lariat. Swerve works Perry over in the corner. Perry fires back with chops. Swerve beats Perry down in the corner.
They fight in the corner through the ropes, and Perry goes for a sunset flip by leaping over the top rope and going to the floor, but Swerve stomps Perry to escape. Perry goes for a hurricanrana on the apron, and Swerve slams him into the ring post. Perry falls down the steel ringside steps as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Swerve gets Perry on his back and gets a butterfly stretch. Perry hits a series of elbows to get free. They move to fighting on the floor, and Perry hits Sliced Bread using the apron. Perry dives into Swerve three times in a row to take down Swerve. Perry goes to the top and hits a moonsault from the top onto Swerve on the floor.
Perry goes to the top, and Swerve joins him there. Swerve is knocked to the mat, and Perry goes for a moonsault, but Swerve stays on his feet. Perry hits a DDT for two. They trade chops, and Swerve kicks Perry’s leg. Swerve hits his House Call on Perry and goes to the top for the Swerve Stomp. Perry rolls through and grabs a Snare Trap on Swerve. Swerve pulls Perry’s hands apart, and Perry rolls through for two. Swerve gets a roll-through, pulls Perry up, and Perry turns it into a hurricanrana and holds on for two.
Perry goes for a casadora, and Swerve holds on and hits Big Pressure for the pin and the win.
Winner: Swerve Strickland.
They fist bump as we get a hype video for the main event between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay.
