THE ROCK'S SINGING CAREER, FITE VS. TRILLERTV, NICK ALDIS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2026-08-21 10:00:00

Thoughts on The Rock wanting to have a singing career?

Why not?  He has a fan base and doesn't have a terrible voice, so if he can surround himself with good songwriters and musicians, why not take a shot at it?  He wouldn't be the first celebrity to take a stab at singing, even as a lark.  Everyone from Eddie Murphy to William Shatner has done it.

Can you give me a primer on what the hell happened to TrillerTV?

They were fairly successful when they were known as FITE, but were purchased by TrillerTV.  Since that time, they were still doing well, but were the only component of Triller to be doing well, so the money made by the FITE division was being utulized elsewhere, instead of being used to pay off partners and reinvested into that division.  That led to its most important partner AEW walking off and suing over millions owed and lots of other partners walking off.  FITE has sued their TrillerTV parent company and are trying to get themselves extricated so they can try and get off The Titanic.  They either will and see how they can turn things around on their own, or they will eventually disappear with the rest of Triller.  It's a sad, unfortunate situation especially because they had such a great, stellar reputation before Triller's involvement.

Whatever happened to the Howard Stern looking guy from the front row of WWE and ECW PPVs?  Any word how he afforded those tickets?

He pretty much gave up watching wrestling after ECW went out of business.  He was out of NYC but to the best of my knowledge, he now lives in Florida.  I have not spoken with him in many years.  He managed a supermarket in Queens back in the day and he saved his money.

If there's one building for pro wrestling you wish you could've seen shows at back in the day, what would it be?

The Mid-South Coliseum.

If you are Nick Aldis, why do you go back to being a GM after wrestling?

It's what you were booked to do.

I seem to remember something about a former EVOLVE wrestler Jared going to jail.  Was he a WWE guy?

No, you are thinking about former independent wrestler Evan Cloyd, who performed as Jarek 1:20, including appearances in EVOLVE before it was acquired by WWE.  In January, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment yesterday after pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 in Houston, Texas.  He's scheduled for release on 1/2/41 but could be eligible for parole in May 2033.  Over the course of his career, Cloyd wrestled for CZW, EVOLVE, Beyond Wrestling and once made a WWE TV appearance, putting over Braun Strowman in 2016 under the ring name Chase Silver. He last wrestled in 2019. He also worked as a street magician and had a sizable YouTube following, but was never, ever under a WWE deal.
