The show opens with a tribute to the late Dory Funk Jr. Legendary referee Tiger Hattori and New Japan President Hiroshi Tanahashi held a portrait of Dory Funk Jr. in the ring, with the current roster of wrestlers surrounding the ring. They listed Funk's accomplishments and famous opponents. They played a 10 bell salute to Dory Funk Jr. They played his entrance music to the crowd at Korakuen Hall.
Very nice moment.
1 - Masatora Yasuda and Yuya Uemura vs. Jakob Austin Young and HENARE
Young hits Jakob's Ladder on Yasuda and gets the pin.
2 - Tatsuya Matsumoto and Aaron Wolf vs. Dick Togo and Ren Narita
Narita forces Matsumoto to submit to a knee bar.
3 - Gedo and OSKAR vs. Zane Jay and Callum Newman
OSKAR locks Jay in the Nightmare Sleeper. Newman kicks OSKAR in the back of the head. OSKAR chases Newman into the crowd and they brawl. Jay is still in the ring as the referee counts out OSKAR. Zane Jay is knocked out but is declared the winner.
OSKAR is livid. OSKAR tries to choke out Newman with the Nightmare Sleeper, but the young lions break it up.
4 - Daiki Nagai and Drilla Moloney vs. Hartley Jackson and Zack Sabre Jr.
Jackson hits a senton and a powerbomb on Nagai. Jackson pins Nagai.
G1 Climax 36 A Block Matches:
5 - Yuto-Ice vs. SANADA
Kanemaru interferes and sprays Yuto in the face with whiskey. Kanemaru throws the guitar in the ring and SANADA smashes Yuto in the head. The referee does the double count. SANADA gets up at 8. Yuto remains down. SANADA is declared the winner.
SANADA has 6 points.
Yuto-Ice has 6 points.
6 - Jake Lee vs. Great O-Khan
O-Khan tried to attack Lee with a chair before the ring announcements. They brawl around ringside. O-Khan pushes the referee aside. Lee grabs the chair and breaks it on the mat and throws the broken chair to O-Khan. Lee falls to the mat. The referee sees O-Khan with the broken chair and Lee on the mat, and he disqualifies O-Khan.
Jake Lee has 6 points.
Great O-Khan has 4 points.
O-Khan attacks Lee and tries to smash his skull with a chair. Jakob Austin Young runs to the ring to play peacemaker. Lee gets up and offers to shake hands with O-Khan but he leaves the ring in an angry mood.
7 - Hirooki Goto vs. Ryohei Oiwa
Oiwa applies The Big Lock (his headlock submission) on Goto. Goto taps out surprisingly.
Ryohei Oiwa has 8 points.
Hirooki Goto has 4 points.
8 - Konosuke Takeshita vs. Shingo Takagi
Good match. Lots of strikes and they trade finishers. Takeshita hits Made in Japan. Two count. Takagi with a Pumping Bomber. Two count. Takeshita with a Power Drive Knee. Two count. Takagi hits Raging Fire. But Takagi cannot follow up with a cover. More elbow strikes. They are beating the hell out of each other. Takagi hits a Pumping Bomber and a Burning Dragon. Takeshita kicks out. Takagi hits Last of Dragon. Takagi pins Takeshita.
Shingo Takagi has 8 points.
Konosuke Takeshita has 10 points.
9 - Boltin Oleg vs. Yota Tsuji
Another good match. The Korakuen crowd were chanting "Boltin". Oleg hit a Kamikaze. Two count. Oleg goes for another but Tsuji reverses into a crucifix. Two count. Tsuji with a Gene Blaster. Two count. Tsuji tries for a Kamikaze but he cannot flip his body over. Oleg with a lariat. Oleg pulls up Tsuji into an F5. Two count. Oleg hits a powerbomb. They exchange reversals. Oleg hits two more powerbombs. Oleg hits a Kamikaze off the ropes. Oleg pins Tsuji.
Boltin Oleg has 10 points.
Yota Tsuji has 8 points.
Wow, Oleg defeats the IWGP World Champion. Big win on many levels. This win should bring up Oleg to another level to the Japan fans. It was an important win to have at Korakuen Hall with the fans cheering for him.
Oleg acknowledges Tsuji and the fans for bringing him to another level.
