All-time great Stan Hansen was honored for his career achievements last weekend in Charlotte, NC at TMart Promotions' Night to Remember Banquet at part of The Gathering.
Hansen gave the following speech after being honored:
"Wow. Well, they gave me a little heads up saying that I was going to get this, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
First and foremost, I want to thank all of the common guys in pro wrestling that never make it to the top. They're there every day, putting time in, putting over guys like me, and Ted DiBiase, and other people, you know? Because that was their job.
And you know what? They did it with a great attitude. They did it because they loved what they were doing. I have tremendous respect for all those guys that put me over, but also put over our business. They made our business. If it wasn't for them, there would be no pro wrestling.
Getting this honor, it's something that, you know, I really cherish. I mean, it's easy to say, "Well, I got this and I got that," or "I didn't get this and I didn't get that." But this is really nice because it's given to me by people of my peers.
And thank you so very much. And I want to just appreciate Terry Funk for getting me in the business.
I want to thank Bruiser Brody.
I want to thank Ted DiBiase, too. He was a great partner and we had such fun. And he was part of the West Texas hierarchy, I guess you'd call it, I'm not quite sure. But he was part of the Funk dynasty, too. And I just appreciate Ted and all he has done.
But most of all, I just want to thank my wife for, after all of these years, putting up with me. Chewing tobacco, me spitting out the window, me blowing my nose—I mean, all these things that are so attractive! But she stood by me and is here with me tonight. Thank God for her.
And I'm not going to keep on going. There's a million people I'd love to talk about and thank, but I want to thank all the wrestling fans, and all the guys that put us over. All you guys on that opening match out there—without you, we wouldn't be here. Without you, there'd be no success. Without you in that third match tag match, and you have to get in there for five minutes and do the job—thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. And God bless all of y'all."
