A new documentary on the Nick Gage vs. Matt Cardona match that kicked off Cardona's post-WWE run in GCW and beyond is now online:
Giancarlo Dittamo, who has directed a ton of projects, including Superfan - The Story of Vladimir commented on the film's release on Twitter, writing:
"DEATH MATCH KING - five years in the making
This isn't about one match. It's about reinvention, trust, timing, controversy and what can happen when someone fully commits to an idea that probably should not work.
This period was also an important part of my own life and career. I've always wanted to properly tell this story and I'm proud that we were finally able to do it. I'll always value the work we made during that time and the bond Matt and I built through it.
This documentary would not exist without the incredibly talented people who helped bring it to life:
Dan Schram - Dan's years of footage capturing GCW live events across the country allowed us to tell this story from beginning to end. He was also shooting ringside during the infamous match inside the Carousel Room at the Showboat. Today, Dan continues to shoot ringside as a member of my team at All Elite Wrestling.
Micael Preysler - An incredibly talented documentary filmmaker who took a bus from New York City to Atlantic City last month to meet with Matt Cardona and film his portion of the documentary while Matt was in town. His perspective helped give this film the intimacy it needed.
TJ Browne - A brilliant filmmaker who documents every day of his life, capturing endless hours of himself as a hardworking father raising his two sons. He has also preserved years of priceless GCW history, from the earliest days to the present. When the definitive GCW documentary eventually needs to be made, TJ's footage will be essential in constructing that story.
