Alpha-1 Wrestling presented The Purge, live on Youtube, broadcasting from a jam packed Knights of Columbus club in Hamilton, Ontario.
The theme for this show is "No rules." HMM. Interesting.
KPK (Abu, Ahmed) faced Mike Forte and Shane Sabre to decide the top contenders for the Alpha-1 Tag titles. Good match with Forte and Sabre beating Ahmed with their Spear of Destiny finish (Doomsday Device clothesline).
Jon Jon Tavious, Marz the Specialist, Ichiban, Luke Kaiden, Tyler Jordan, Shimbashi, Jay Blast were announced a 7-Way Scramble match. Everyone immediately went for weapons, and it was all gas, no brakes. Blast got the win, tossing a chair into Marz' face while the Specialist had Kaiden pinned.
Scarlett Bordeaux defended the Romanian Pro Wrestling Queen of the Castle championship against TNA star, Jody Threat. They were having a solid, competitive match when Kingsley came out with a hot mic to perform a song. That got Threat's attention, leaving her open for Bordeaux's attack. Bordeaux with the win and she runs off Kingsley as Kingsley was mocking Threat. Eh finish to a nice match.
Mark Wheeler (with Del Bruno) defended the Zero Gravity championship against Jessie V, who is an uber-athletic muscleman. Taking advantage of the Purge no rules theme, Bruno helps Wheeler throughout the match, effectively making it a handicap match. Another fast paced bout. V wins the title putting Wheeler through a particularly uncooperative table propped in the corner.
Alpha-1 Tag championsThe Verdict (Bryce Donovan, Vinnie Scalise with EZE Eric Cairnie) faced the challenge of former TNA World champion Rich Swann and former X Division champion "Firestarter" Jake Crist (I wanted to call the Team REVOLVER). Another good match. Donovan, for the young big man in the match, is looking better and better every time I see him. Champs retain, hitting Swann with their spinning elbow/chokeslam double team finish.
"The King of TNA" Frankie Kazarian returns to Alpha-1 in September for their King of Hearts tournament.
For the first time ever, the Major League Wrestling World Heavyweight title was defended on an Alpha-1 card, with Killer Kross (also bringing out the various other titles he's won lately) defending against Alpha-1 star, Jimmy Townsend. Townsend gave up a lot of size and experience but used the Purge/no rules concept to his advantage, getting the upper hand with a low blow andwielding both a steel chair and steel chain. Commentary made a Roddy Piper/Starrcade 83 reference. That made me smile. Perfectly laid out match with Townsend in control for major points of the match and Kross fighting from underneath before overcoming the very game challenger. Townsend looked so good, the Hamilton crowd started cheering for him despite his being the heel.
Xavier Walker teamed with BMD and Bryce Hansen to face Touch of Class (Alpha-1 champion Channing Thomas, Sam Holloway, TJ Crawford) in a Tornado 6 man tag match in the main event. This was the match where all the plunder came out: chairs, trash cans, tables, traffic signs and more. Major drama early with BMD flying off the top turnbuckle through a table on the floor. He was taken out by medical staff, making this a 3 on 2 match up. That Holloway is a monster and a monster with a perfect dropkick. Big future for this guy if he stays healthy and makes the right connections. ToC get the upper hand and look to be trying to take Hansen out when a limping BMD returns with a barbed wire-wrapped board. That turns the tide with BMD pinning Thomas with a swanton bomb off the top rope onto a trash can stacked on the champion. Commentary put it over hard that win puts BMD as next in line for a shot. That makes sense.
My first time seeing Alpha-1and many of these wrestlers and it was impressive all over.
