Some questions following Smackdown;
1. I’m really enjoying the resurgence of Finn Balor. Do you think he gets another run with a top title? I’m all for it.
I am enjoying it too. Him and Sami should be a great match at SummerSlam. If I were a betting man, I would take the no option there as I don’t see the stars aligning for another top Title run. But, I wouldn’t bet more than five dollars.
2. Watching the backstage interaction with Cody & Priest I found one part very interesting. Priest echoed a lot fan complaints when he said the boys are sick of the same guys getting the title opportunities. Do you feel they script comments like that to gauge to live crowd reaction and see what they get, and possibly take it into consideration?
I think they check and see if the whiners on the internet represent the majority, for sure. I also noted that later on CM Punk got a deafening reaction. That points out how you have to take what the “sickos” think with a grain of salt as they are often the vocal minority,
3. I know you’ve commented in the past about HHH falling into some Vince booking tropes. We got one in having the newly minted tag champ take a loss in a singles match. Do they not realize how much it hurts the talents? I know it was a set-up for SS, but they just could have had a non-finish and a brawl to get there.
I hated that finish. Lainey Reid should have scored the pin there and then after the match, Nikki Bella could have returned. The new champs won the titles with chicaner and that finish didn’t help establish them. I have watched HHH do that a lot with younger talent. I wonder if it’s due to desperate booking since…..well…..
4. With the ticket sales for Summerslam being, well, sluggish, do you see anyone announcing attendance figures each night, or maybe just the combined attendance on the second night? They’ve been pretty quiet lately about announcing records they break, etc.
As alluded to above, HHH is booking top heavy instead of pushing young talent to the top. I think if ticket prices weren’t so high and he could truly book to the future as well as the present, it would be different. For example, Bron Breakker should have won the feud with Seth Rollins. Rollins would still be over taking the loss but Bron would have been elevated. Instead, HHH needed to try and sell tickets for SummerSlam so he put Rollins over to have him take on Roman Reigns. I think that he ticket prices are the main reason why HHH is booking more desperately. As for SummerSlam, I think that there will be a lot of comps and if/when they announce the attendance, it will be inflated.
