1 - Taisei Nakahara and Toru Yano vs. Dick Togo and Ren Narita
Narita forces Nakahara to tap out to a Boston Crab.
2 - Masatoru Yasuda and Yuya Uemura vs. Daiki Nagai and Drilla Moloney
Moloney pins Yasuda after hitting a superkick.
3 - Gedo and OSKAR vs. Jakob Austin Young and HENARE
HENARE traps Gedo in Ultima. He throws Gedo to Young who hits Another One Bites the Dust. Young pins Gedo.
4 - Hartley Jackson and Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Zane Jay and Callum Newman
Jackson hits the Jagged Edge on Jay and gets the pin.
Gabe Kidd is not a part of the preview tag matches, which is interesting. He has no affiliation with any faction and he has been trashing New Japan, so his exclusion makes sense. Hopefully this decision will keep him healthy in the tournament.
G1 Climax 36 A Block Matches:
5 - Hirooki Goto vs. Jake Lee
Goto hits Lee off the apron and he lands on his knee. Lee starts screaming and holding his knee. Jakob Austin Young comes to check on Lee and calls for the trainer to come out. Lee ignores the trainer and Young and struggles to get back in the ring. Goto stomps on Lee and the referee pulls Goto back and gets him to the corner turnbuckle. Lee gets up and hits a Face Break Shot.
Lee pins Goto.
Jake Lee has 4 points.
Hirooki Goto has 4 points.
Jake Lee is proud of himself. Young hugs Lee after the win. HENARE, on English commentary, popped on mic when Lee got the pin, as he believed Lee was hurt.
6 - Ryohei Oiwa vs. Great O-Khan
Oiwa's ribs are taped up, so O-Khan made that his target. Oiwa fights back with a lariat and a Tenzan suplex. Oiwa gets a sleeper. Oiwa goes for The Grip and almost hits the referee. O-Khan throws Oiwa ribs first into the open turn bucket and rolls him up in a cradle. Two count. Oiwa avoids an Eliminator, thorws O-Khan into the open turnbuckle and rolls up O'Khan into a cradle.
Oiwa pins O-Khan.
Ryohei Oiwa has 4 points.
Great O-Khan has 2 points.
7 - Konosuke Takeshita vs. Yuto-Ice
Both men quickly start brawling into the crowd. Takeshita hits a DDT on the arena floor. Yuto gets back to the ring and Takeshita hits another DDT. Two count. They continue to brawl and trade strikes in the ring. Takeshita applies a crossface. Yuto gets to the ropes. They trade more elbows and strikes. Takeshita hits a back suplex. Yuto with a high kick and a punt kick. Takeshita with an elbow strike. Yuto hits Cruela. Two count. Takeshita with a wheelbarrow suplex. More strikes. Takeshita with a T-Bone suplex and a Power Drive Knee. Takeshita applies a Camel Clutch Sleeper. Yuto passes out. Takeshita is declared the winner.
Konosuke Takeshita has 4 points.
Yuto-Ice has 2 points.
Good match.
8 - Yota Tsuji vs. SANADA
Very even match up. SANADA wrestled liked the SANADA from Los Ingobernale de Japon. SANADA hits a Magic Screw on the floor. Tsuji beats the count back. SANADA traps Tsuji in Skull End. Tsuji looks unconscious. SANADA goes for and hits a moonsault Tsuji kicks out. They trade nearfalls. Tsuji with a curbstomp. SANADA with a Shining Wizard to the back of Tsuji's head. Tsuji applies a Boston Crab. Massive chant for SANADA. SANADA reverses out and hits a Shining Wizard. SANADA misses a moonsault and Tsuji hits a Gene Blaster. SANADA kicks out at two. They exchange reversals. SANADA pushes Tsuji towards the referee causing a distraction. SANADA with a pop-up low blow, followed by Deadfall.
SANADA pins Tsuji
SANADA has 2 points.
Yota Tsuji has 2 points.
Another good match. Both wrestlers really drew in the crowd to the point they were behind SANADA.
9 - Boltin Oleg vs. Shingo Takagi
This was a power based match. Takagi was laying on the mat. Oleg pulled him by the arm onto his shoulders for a Death Valley Driver. Oleg is freakishly strong. Oleg applied sleeper. Takagi hit a Saito Suplex. Takagi hit a Pumping Bomber and a Burning Dragon. Oleg kicks out. Oleg hits a powerbomb and picks up Takagi for a second powerbomb. He picks up Takagi for a Kamikaze. Takagi holds onto the ropes to block it. Oleg pulls him off and hits the Kamikaze.
Oleg pins Takagi.
Boltin Oleg has 4 points.
Shingo Takagi has 2 points.
This was a good win for Oleg over a major star in Takagi. Oleg has held the NEVER Championship, which has been a mid-card title for a long time. He is the current New Japan Strong Champion, but New Japan Strong does not run any shows hardly. Oleg needed an important win to prove he can hang with the best wrestlers in New Japan and he proved that tonight. Now he needs to be consistent.
