SNME. I went into the show with low expectations, so it wasn’t tough to exceed them.
1. Main Event tag match; they over-delivered, really good match. I thought it was good for Nick Aldis to finally, legitimately screw Gunther over. He had it coming, and the crowd loved it. The Cody/Punk miscues were predictable, but well done. Did you enjoy the match, and do you see a possible heel turn from Cody or Punk?
I thought the match was fantastic. We had four pro’s pros in there and they delivered big time. I loved that Nick Aldis came out and screwed Gunther, for a few reasons. Most importantly, he owed him after what Gunther did to him on Smackdown. I would expect that they meet at SummerSlam. More importantly, it kept Cody vs. Punk as a singles match instead of a multi-man cluster. My only concern is what they have for Sami Zayn at SummerSlam. He deserves a good spot there.
2. Finally, they moved the tag belts off of Brie & Paige. Should have happened earlier, but better late than never. Who do you see as the first challengers?
Yes, it was time for sure. Plus, after coming in strong Fatal Influence has lost a lot of steam lately. They needed that win in a big way. If it’s me, I have them get a few relatively easy defenses under their belts to help establish them as champions.
3. Wow, Lyra was bleeding like a faucet from her nose, ouch. It just seemed to stop, though. Is there something she or the ref may have done to stop it relatively quickly? Some first aid trick? Hope she’s OK.
She is tough, for sure. She got busted open big time. They could have filled the nose with gauze, I don’t know. If they did that makes her performance even better since it would have been harder to breathe. Fallon Henley was bleeding as well before her. They were some stiff shots being thrown.
4. I wasn’t a fan of the way the final segment was laid out. Roman cuts a babyface promo, has the MVP in the ring with him - there was no way he was getting booed. The Seth jumps him from behind and gets laid out, scurrying away like a heel.
On one hand, I loved the segment. It was well done. But yes, I thought we were going into this with Seth as the face and Roman as the heel, but they flipped that (I guess). I think the lack of clearly defined lines for too many talents needs to end. Fans want to know who to root for and who to root against.
And having Brunson stand in front of Seth just didn’t work for me. I’m sure most people knew/predicted Seth was never going to lay a hand on him - in a real situation Seth would have smacked him. What did you think of how that went down?
I liked it. Yep, I knew there would be no hands thrown but that’s OK for me. It’s wrestling. It was about the drama and I liked it.
