I hope you’ve been well. Just finished watching SD, not too bad of a show. Some good storyline progression on quite a few fronts.
1. Cody/Gunther; the match was nothing special given the participants, but it wasn’t about that. What it did do was further the Sami Zayn issues, and it was done well. I loved the callback to the old Tommy Young ref spot where Sami kicked Gunther’s hands off the ropes and followed with a quick count. Sami, in that moment, was totally justified as he could have DQ’d Gunther earlier. Cody asking for a restart was a good babyface move as well. I thought it was all well laid out & executed. Did you like it?
I did because it was logical and Sami has done the slow burn on the possible heel turn. He still is telling himself he is a good guy so he should still do good things until he finally snaps for good.
2. Triple Threat - Does Sami win the title? Cody certainly doesn’t need it.
Sami will definitely have the crowd behind him in Saudi Arabia. Could he win? Sure. And I agree Cody doesn’t need it and there is a good case to be made to have him go on the hunt again for the belt. If I am guessing, I could see Cody and Sami blow up and Gunther takes advantage of it to win the Title. Then, Cody can deal with Sami for a while before getting back into the Title picture.
3. Jey Uso; Is it me, or do we get two different versions when he’s on both shows? He and the rest of the bloodline are dicks on Monday, but come Friday, he’s back to what he was a year ago, yeeting away, slapping hands with the fans. He even gives props to J’Von after the match. It reminds me of the territory days when a guy would be a heel in one area but babyface in another. Thoughts?
I said the same thing on the show with Eps. It was like when WWE used to go to Canada and the heels were the faces. Jey is an angry dick some of the time and old Yeet man other times. I think given Roman told us last Monday that everyone hates The Bloodline that it makes more sense to have Jey just embrace being a heel again.
4. I guess we’re getting King Uso? As I asked earlier this week, my guess is Brock screws over Oba somehow.
I agree. They have to set up Oba-Brock 3 so if it’s me, Brock comes out and Oba attacks. They brawl around the building and Oba gets counted out, which would be fine by me in this scenario. Oba made it clear at the end of his promo last week that his number one priority is getting Brock so it would make perfect sense that he would give up King Of The Ring, which he can win at any time, to get his hands on the retiring Brock now.
5. The main event was good; it was the first time since I can remember seeing Charlotte work from underneath like that in a match. And she did it so well, too. She had an out for losing, Liv gets to crow about it. Do you think Liv wins QOTR and faces Rhea, or does Iyo win and then faces Morgan again at SS?
Charlotte was amazing on Friday. We just take for granted how great she is, and she is for sure. If it’s me, I have Iyo win. Then the drama is about who will she face. I hope if that happens, she picks Liv because if she didn’t, she comes off as not a very good friend.
