THE DUKE OF DORCHESTER PETE DOHERTY PASSES AWAY

The Cauliflower Alley Club sadly announced the passing of "The Duke of Dorchester" Pete Doherty at 85 years old.

Doherty was well known for his appearances in the WWF in the 1970s and 1980s, where he was utilized performed primarily as an underneath regional talent from the New England area.  He took hos moniker from his hometown, Dorchester, Massachusetts. Doherty became a familiar face on WWF television during its national expansion, where he was used mainly as an enhancement wrestler, helping to showcase and elevate more prominent stars of the era.  He would usually work as a heel and would occasionally get victories at house shows, but never on television.     In New England, he was a cult hero character and seen as "one of their guys." despite being a heel.

Doherty's biggest WWF win was likely being the surprise victor of a Bunkhouse Battle Royal that headlined a WWF event in Springfield, MA.  He also upset Haku in what would be his biggest singles win during a 1990 Boston Garden house show.  Doherty once challenged Bob Backlund for the WWF title on a house show in Connecticut, challenged Tito Santana for the WWF Intercontinental title and also challenged for the WWF Tag Team titles with different partners in the 1970s and ealry 1980s.  Doherty at times also did commentary and sometimes worked under a mask as The Golden Terror.

A true character in professional wrestling who brought charisma along with a larger-than-life personality to every arena he stepped into. We send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.Rest in peace, Duke"

Doherty last wrestled in 1992 but did make appearances at conventions from time to time.
