CLASH IN ITALY THOUGHTS

I hope you enjoyed the show, I thought it was really good.  Hats off to the live crowd, they were awesome all night long.  It added so much to the show, I just love the international crowds.

The crowd was awesome, for sure.  They add so much to the show.  I loved the work on the show.  The booking?  Well I didn’t love some of that!

1.  Cody/Gunther; I liked it until the finish, which seemed almost botched in some respects with the 3 count.  I guess they’re running this back since Gunther has a legit gripe about losing.  Did you feel the it lacked that little something in the drama area?

I get why they did it, they didn’t want either guy to lose.  But, it seemed to me that Cody should have known where Gunther’s leg was.  Him scooping it up and stealing the pin was a bit dicey for QB1, the babyface.  I want to see how he comments on the finish on Smackdown.  WWE would say, “See, you want to tune in” but I don’t mean it in that way. Gunther got screwed.  Hopefully Cody will acknowledge that and give him another shot. If he doesn’t, how is he a babyface?  So, I will wait and see how they address that one.

2.  Brock/Oba;  great big man slugfest, wow.  I know I’m in the minority, but I have no issue with Brock going over the way he did -  he jump started the match, hit Oba with absolutely everything and then some, yet Oba still almost won.  I’m pretty certain you’ll disagree with the finish, but did the way the match unfolded redeem that in any way for you?

This can be looked at two ways.  On the one hand, you had the perfect end to Brock’s career after the loss at WrestleMania.  Oba came out looking like a monster.  It was perfect.  If it were my call, that is the way I would have ended it.  But, you can make the case that this is also Brock Lesnar, an all time great, and if they want to make it a best of three with the end of his career happening in his home state of Minnesota at SummerSlam?  I understand that too.  I just hope that when they do it, Oba comes out on top and more like he did in the first match than he did yesterday.  Yes, he kicked out of a lot and was jumped at the start, but he still took a lot of abuse.  In the deciding match I want to see more domination from him as he is the future and Brock is the past.

3.  Rhea/Jade;  I thought this match surpassed their WM encounter.  I’m guessing this closes the door on the Rhea/Jade title picture for a while, and Charlotte is in Jade’s crosshairs.  Did you like how everything unfolded?

First off, Jade continues to get better and kudos to her for that.  It was way too soon to take the Title off of Rhea so I was fine with them booking the finish the way that they did.  Jade and Charlotte definitely seems possible and if they go that route, Jade stays at the top so I am fine with it.

4.  Sol Ruca gets her win, she should be a fun IC champ.

Kudos to her and also Becky Lynch, who did what a great veteran does in getting over the new, on-the-rise talent.  I agree, Sol has the it factor and is fun to watch work.

5.  Roman/Jacob;  great brawl, really loved it.  But honestly, the commentary took me out of it a bit, with Graves & Cole still trying to make Roman sound like the good guy in all of this. It bordered on nauseating for me.  They’re just trying to ram this narrative down our throats and it makes no sense under even under the slightest logical examination.  And then Jey Uso the carnival barker after the match trying to get Jacob to come down the aisle and fall in step.  So many things to pick at, honestly, from a perspective of how the participants are being framed.  Did you take issue with the commentary or am I being too picky here?

They had a great match.  In fact, all of the work on the show was great.  The wrestlers aren’t the problem in any way.  But yes, the way that they are presenting Roman, and it’s not Cole and Graves to blame here, is just stupid.  Roman has been a complete dick.  He was cursing at Jacob during the match even.  Yes, Jacob went nuts, but he went nuts because Roman kept screwing him and The Usos were getting involved where they didn’t belong.  I guess Paul Levesque thinks that he is booking Roman as a face with an edge, but if he thinks that he is totally off the mark.  Roman is coming off the same way that he did when he was running The Bloodline.  Now, let me clear, I loved that version of Reigns but they weren’t telling me that guy was the victim like they are now.  I hope that they make the proverbial right turn at Albuquerque here because the storytelling is way off point.
