The whole Roman Reigns not acknowledging the "secondary" world title didn't sit right with me. He basically buried everyone holding it since it was created, and when he won it in the main event at Wrestlemania, he still didn't acknowledge it being a top tier title. I usually like the tweener stuff they have been doing, but it seems like they are pushing him to be a heel, even though its obvious that the crowd wants to cheer him. Do you think it's because they don't want heels to challenge him for the title, or is it just a lack of confidence in the audience, and poor booking?
I wish I could understand what the plan is with Roman’s character. He has been a dick. He didn’t want to give Jacob Fatu a shot and when he finally did, he cheated to win. Other than the pops from the fans, he is a heel. He is largely the character that he has always been. I had hoped that they would turn him into a kick ass babyface, and maybe they will at some point, but yep, he is a heel to me for sure. Why they are booking him that way? I have no idea. I thought that they were heading in a new direction when he said that he wanted The Usos to not be under him, but stand with him, but that has gone sideways since.
I know releases are a part of the company, but why would you release people in programs that the audience loves? Wouldn't it be just as cost effective to release lower card guys that does nothing? Not just the New Day, but poor Solo lost half his family tree!
My guess is that it comes down to math. They look to cut a specific amount of salary and then they pick who will be let go. Take New Day. If they had agreed to take the pay cut, that means WWE would have probably cut other talent to get to their number. I would think it’s like a puzzle and they decide who is expendable. It’s a shame, especially with people like Kairi Sane, who was in the middle of a program. But, TKO is a corporation, for sure.
If the recent WWE releases are mainly due to cost-cutting, then I CAN see how you can use that reasoning to justify releasing veterans that were likely getting paid very well, such as New Day. So how can you use that same reasoning for cutting LFG and new NXT talents, who would be at the bottom of the pay scale and whose salaries would barely make a dent in WWE's billions in revenue?
First off, if Shawn Michaels and his crew don’t see something in someone, it makes sense to cut them loose if they have to reduce costs. It’s better to get rid of someone that they don’t think will make it than to get rid of someone that they think could. As I said above, my understanding was that there was a number that they wanted to hit and every salary cut contributes to that. It all adds up.
I'm not a fan of Darby Allin title reign heading into Double Or Nothing. I don't understand why he gets destroyed in every match and then wins. It's getting tov be unbelievable and when he loses it's going to be anticlimactic.
Judging by the ratings drop since he won the belt, you are not alone in your feeling. Darby has always been hard for me to take seriously given that he is so small and yet he wrestles like he is Oba Femi. He takes a German Suplex into a bridge from the top rope and kicks out? What am I watching? It’s totally unbelievable to me. I get that some people don’t care if something makes sense as long as it’s a cool spot, but given the drop in ratings for Allin’s reign, at least some AEW do care. I hope AEW can get the momentum back after the get the belt off of him. Darby has a place in AEW, for sure, but not as a Road Warrior champion.
