Country singer David Allan Coe, perhaps best known for his songs The Ride and Take This Job and Shove it, among other 70s and 80s songs, passed away overnight, Rolling Stone reported. Coe was 86.
Coe performed in concert at the first-ever Great American Bash event promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions in Charlotte, NC with babyfaces Jimmy Valiant, Magnum TA, Dusty Rhodes, and heel Ric Flair appearing on stage as part of the set. Coe made a number of concert appearances in conjunction with JCP live events in 1986 as well.
Coe also celebrated with Rhodes after his 1986 NWA World Championship victory over Ric Flair in Greensboro, NC in July 1986. Coe's music, according to comments Ric Flair made on his old podcast, helped inspire some of Rhodes' promos.
