WWE will present Wrestlemania 42 this Saturday and Sunday on ESPN Unlimited and Netflix from Las Vegas, Nevada with a 6:00 PM Eastern start time for the show (with the first hour also airing on ESPN). Here is what we think will happen on Sunday.
Men's World Championship Match: CM Punk vs Roman Reigns
Dave: My heart tells me that this is the working man's Title and the guy who is at TV every week should hold it. But, my head tells me that having Roman on Netflix on a semi-regular basis means he walks away with the gold. I am happy that Punk FINALLY gets to headline WrestleMania.
Mike: The big moment of Punk's career as he finally gets to be the guy who headlines Wrestlemania. The segment with Cody on Smackdown was so good and loving that I almost wondered if Punk was going to turn heel on Night One and we get old school Straightedge Superstar Punk on Night Two but that's probably overdoing the booking, something WWE can never, ever, ever be accused of, right Pat McAfee? I suspect this is a hell of a match and I suspect Roman walks out with the title.
Richard: I have enjoyed some of the build for this match but I will be so ecstatic when this match starts. My only fear is that we get the 'typical Roman Reigns main event match' formula with a ref bump, interference, opponent having the visual win. If Roman is not going to be involved in a more than part time basis, he should not win the title. I think Punk will fight through all of the obstacles and find a way to retain the title. I don't know if he will have any help or if he will take on the whole Roman Universe by himself. I don't want to see these two men 'show respect' to the other after the match and shake their hand. Whoever wins, I am interested to see the promo on Monday and what is next for the champion.
Women's WWE Championship Match: Jade Cargill vs Rhea Ripley
Dave: Jade needs to retain here. Rhea is already made and I think they want her to stay on Netflix.
Mike: I think Rhea is amazing but my gut says Jade is retaining here.
Richard: I think Jim Ross would be able to describe what I think will happen in this match. I would assume that Rhea's spot would have gone to Bianca if she was cleared to wrestle. Rhea should win this match, but I can see Asuka getting into Iyo's head and at some point Iyo comes to ringside to neutralize Michin and B-Fab, but it backfires and Jade retains.
Men's Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match: Penta vs Rey Mysterio vs Je'Von Evans vs Dragon Lee vs Rusev vs JD McDonagh (also on ESPN)
Dave: I am sure this will be insane. I hate to see the champ lose his Title in matches like this so I would have Penta retain, especially given his value in Mexico.
Mike: I predict MADNESS. Lots of choices here. I can see them going with Evans since this is on ESPN and the general idea would be to use the spotlight to make a star, but I can also make arguments for Rusev and McDonagh as well as Dragon Lee. In my brain, unless they want to give Rey a nice moment, Evans is the guy if they want a new champ. I wouldn't be shocked to see Penta retain as he's had great momemtum of late.
Richard: This will probably be the most spectacular match because of the bumps and spots we will get witt the ladder involved. I think the people will be talking the most about Je'Von Evans because he is going to do something crazy (and probably win the Jeff Hardy 'Why are you doing that' spot award). I see him hitting his cutter from the top of the ladder, even though he should worry about grabbing the belt. The one that feels like he doesn't belong is Rusev, but he can get creative and have some memorable moments. There will be a Spanish Fly off the ladder at some point. Adding Rey to the match to get a Wrestlemania moment is good, but I don't see him winning. I think Penta retains or Je'Von wins. I am going to go with the young star and Evans is your new champion.
Men's United States Championship Match: Sami Zayn vs Trick Williams
Dave: I could see the start of a double turn here. Sami could do what it takes to keep the belt that he has wanted for so long and heel Trick in the process. Maybe Melo gets involved and Trick shows a weak spot for his old friend. Trick doesn't need to win here. Sami needs to retain, and I think a turn is coming for him to refresh his character. Trick chasing for a while will make for a better story. If Sami just loses here his character will be really hurt.
Mike: WWE has been all about establishing Trick in recent months. It only makes sense that he wins the title here and Sami spins out after.
Richard: It feels like Trick has to win the match. He is one of the most popular wrestlers and with the way the crowd has turned on Sami, This feels a lot like Jey and Gunther from last year where the result is going to be based on the fan reaction more than who should win the match. I think Sami's performance will determine how the match comes off to the viewer.
Dominik Mysterio vs 'The Demon' Finn Balor
Dave: The Demon is back so Balor HAS to win. Plus, Dom deserves to get what's coming to him.
Mike: This should be a lot of fun and I suspect have a ton of interference and craziness from the other members of Judgement Day. Dom is as made as anyone as a character, so this should be about establishing Finn as a force now that the Demon is back. I say give Dom a cool production entrance to celebrate and push him and then have the Demon overcome him.
Richard: This is a match that has been expected for a long time and they have done a good job to set this up and establish Finn as a face in the feud. Dom has done everything he can to keep his titles and Finn got fed up with it and Dom didn't like it. Finn has talked about how he created what Dom has become so he has to destroy it. I don't know if JD will be able to get involved since he wrestles Sunday as well. Finn wins the match.
Brock Lesnar vs Oba Femi (also on ESPN)
Dave: This will be short and violent, the way it should be. Given that they had Brock squash Cena on ESPN Unlimited, they should do something similar here with Oba destroying Brock. Oba is the now and has to be treated as such.
Mike: I know they are putting this on ESPN to make a moment, so it really should be OBA CRUSHING Lesnar immediately. Think Ultimate Warrior beating Honkytonk Man quick. The rest should be about Brock being shocked and losing his mind after. Nothing else.
Richard: This match should be as follows: Brock hits F5 . . . Oba pops up immediately . . . Oba with a clothesline . . . Oba spear . . . Oba power bomb . . . three count. They have positioned Oba to be the biggest star to come out of Wrestlemania. If this match is longer than 2 minutes, I think they missed the opportunity. It is up to Oba and creative to follow up on this, but Oba needs a convincing win (and maybe a rematch victory).
