THE DARBY WINS AEW DYNAMITE REPORT

AEW Dynamite is live from Angels of the Wind Arena in Everett, WA for night one of Spring Breakthru. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Bryan Danielson, and Tony Schiavone

Renee Paquette is in the back and says AEW has not been answering his phone and doesn’t know he has a match with Darby Allin tonight. MJF shows up and puts himself over. Don Callis shows up and shakes his hand, and thanks him for beating Kenny Omega. He apologizes that Andrade El Idolo didn’t beat Darby Allin. MJF says that Don owes him one, and to tell Andrade will never be championship material. Renee yells at MJF that he has to face Darby RIGHT NOW!

MJF (AEW World Champion) vs Darby Allin

MJF doesn’t allow himself to be introduced and charges to the ring and yells at Darby that he will not give him a match tonight. He says he will sue everyone involved. The crowd chants ring the bell and MJF asks if they want to see this match? TOO BAD!! MJF claims his back still hurts and he will be checked out in the back. 

MJF then puts over Darby, but the fans love him because he’s like the fans, good, but not great and not championship material. Crabby grabs the mic and says it only takes one night and if he’s not ready now, he’ll never be ready. He goes over what he does for the company. Darby is near tears as he goes over how he started in wrestling ten miles away. He says he got to the top and calls for them to ring the bell. 

Bryan grabs a mic and says he has a message from Tony Khan who agrees with MJF for him to wrestle when he is unprepared, and Tony is giving him time to prepare as this match is now tonight’s main event. And if MJF refuses, he will be stripped of the title.

Darby says he will beat MJF with a headlock takeover.

We then get video from after Dynasty where Tony Schiavone goes to talk to Kenny Omega, Kenny has nothing to say and he goes to the trainer’s room with Will Ospreay. They talk about how things didn’t go their way. Ospreay talks about how Omega bounced back after his loss to Okada in 2017, and Kenny says it was 10 years ago, and now it’s Ospreay who’s got it. Ospreay says his dream is to be the AEW champion, and Kenny can still do it. As Ospreay leaves, he says Omega is his hero. Omega says maybe he can’t give up. Potentially there is still a chance.

Tommaso Ciampa vs Dezmond Xavier

Ciampa fires a blow when Xavier tries for a lock-up and he beats down Xavier and kicks him out of the ring before diving onto him. He rolls Xavier into the ring and whips him across the ring. They run the ropes and Xavier gets an upkick. Ciampa gets a blow and whips Xavier to the floor. Xavier goes to the apron and Ciampa gets a knee strike to knock him to the floor Cimap follows him to the floor and whips him to the steel steps, but Xavier leaps over them. 

They return to the ring and they trade running blows. Xavier gets a drop-kick and then slides to the ropes when Caimpa gets out of the way of a dive as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Ciampa has a rear chinlock on Xavier. Xavier looks as if he is passing out and then starts to slowly work to his feet. Xavier fights out with shots to Ciampa and comes off the ropes with elbow strikes. Xavier gets a cutter and kips up. Xavier gets attacks in the corner and then a leaping tornado DDT for two. 

Xavier goes to the top and misses a 450. Ciampa gets a rolling elbow strike. He picks up Xavier, who reverses it into a rollup for two. Caimpa goes to the flor and Xavier dives into him. Caimpa is rolled into the ring and Xavier goes to the top for a frog splash for two. Caimpa tries for a backdrop, but Xavier lands on his feet. Ciampa takes out Xavier with a rising knee strike and then hits a power bomb backstabber. 

Ciampa drops the knee pad and hits the running knee for the pin and the win.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa

Ciampa grabs a mic and says this was the example and he is sick of waiting. He wants ALL of the Gold and challenges whoever wins the Championship match tonight, he is coming for them. He then knocks Xavier from the ring.

We then get a hype video for the main event.

FTR comes to the ring and has something to say. Tony Schiavone says the match at Dynasty with Cope and Cage was the bloodiest match he’s ever seen, which means he has never watched an AEW pay per view before.

Dax says people are mad about the match at Dynasty because they were hooked on the underdog story, but they aren't underdogs, they are losers. Dax says Cope and Cage will never get a shot at the titles again as long as FTR are champions. Stokely mocks the fans saying they think they know everything, and they should know about David and Goliath. FTR is Goliath. He says there are a lot of wannabe Davids and every time David steps up to Goliath, he gets beat down.

He says that they have beaten all of the tag teams in AEW and Tony will go to other companies, but they will all fall to FTR. Cash then asks for a moment of silence for the careers of Cope and Cage. He then mocks the 5-second pose with a 10-second pose. 

Kevin Knight (TNT Champion) vs Claudio Castagnoli

Knight goes for a sunset flip immediately and gets two. Then a backslide for two. They run the ropes and Knight drop-kicks Claudio to the floor. Knight comes off the ropes and Claudio gets in the ring and clotheslines him before stomping him down and dropping an elbow. Claudio gets a chop in the corner and Knight fights his way out until Claudio gets a scoop slam. Claudio grabs a neck vice and Knight fights his way to his feet.

Knight goes to the ropes for a hip toss off the top. Claudio goes to the floor and pulls Knight to the floor. Knight springs off the apron with a forearm as we go to picture in picture.

When they return to full picture, Knight is fighting out of an arm bar and Claudio slams him. Claudio misses an elbow drop and Knight rolls him up for two. Knight does it again for two. Claudio gets an uppercut and then a leaping clothesline and both men are down. They get to their feet and trade blows, and Knight gets a scoop slam on Claudio and covers for two.

Claudio goes to the top and Knight hits him with a drop-kick and then dives onto Claudio on the floor. Claudio is rolled into the ring and Knight runs into his boot in the corner. Claudio catches Knight in a hurricanrana and goes to the top. Claudio sets for an avalanche neutralizer and Knight fights his way free. Claudio gets an upper on top and covers Knight for two. Claudio tosses Knight to the apron and when Knight tries a springboard and Claudio catches him into a backbreaker for two.

Claudio gets the giant swing and tries for a sharpshooter, but Knight fights free. Claudio tries for a catapult, but Knight lands on his feet and gets a leaping lariat. Knight goes to the top and hits the UFO splash for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TNT champion: Kevin Knight

Knight grabs a mic and puts over Claudio and says he is looking good and feeling even better. He says they lost the Trios titles and sometimes one door closes and another opens. He says he will be keeping a close eye on the main event because Jet Two Belts sounds fly.

Renee is with Chris Jericho in the ring Jericho says it’s great to be back in AWW and even though he lost, he loved being in the ring. He says he lost because he was outnumbered three to one and Ricochet’s music hits. The Demand come to the stage and Ricochet said he meant it when he said he respects him, but Jericho didn’t listen to him and got himself hurt. He then says he had to take Jericho out with his own move The Lionsault which is now the Ricosault. 

He says Jericho did pretty good, but not good enough. The crowd politely asks him to be quiet, and he says he will be out all night and then tells Jericho to quit while he is ahead. He says Jericho’s new persona will be the guy who gets beat down by the Demand every week he shows up. 

Jericho mocks the Ricosault. He then talks to Ricochet, dropping the word bald into sentences and mocks the Demand by doing it by calling GOA dumb and ugly and then asks Ricochet to face him one on one. 

Ricochet tells GOA to stay on the stage and not help him no matter what before marching to the ring. Jericho gets a hip toss on Ricochet and then stomps him down in the corner before GOA comes to the ring and stomp him down. Ricochet hits a Ricosault on Jericho and then stands over him in triumph.

We get a video of Renee with Don Callis and Kazuchika Okada after Dynasty. When Konosuke Takshita walks by he is asked what happened in the match. Takeshita says it was a mistake and uses Okada’s "I'm so sorry” before he walks off. 

Will Ospreay vs Hechicero

Ospreay winces when he takes his jacket off. 

Don Callis joins commentary.

They lock up and are in the ropes immediately. Hechicero grabs the leg and sweeps the second and then tries for a sharpshooter, but Ospreay gets a head scissors takedown. Hechicero is able to grab Ospreay when Ospreay goes for the leg and Hechicero gets a series of quick mat holds. Hechicero rolls Ospreay up for two. Hechicero gets a head scissors takedown and Ospready fights out of it and Hechicero gets a boot to Ospreay's head.

They run the ropes and Ospreay gets a head scissors takedown and then dives onto Hechicero on the floor as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Ospreay and Hechicero are throwing hands and we see Marina Shafir in the crowd, watching the match. Hechicero tries for a pump handle slam. Ospreay gets free, and Hechicero gets a spinning hammerlock slam and covers for two. Hechicero gets a slam as Ospreay comes off the ropes and then stomps on Ospreay. Hechicero drop-kicks Ospreay to the floor.

Hechicero rolls Ospreay into the ring and then gets a flying surfboard and then grabs Ospreay’s head to pull it back and Ospreay is able to escape. Hechicero and Ospreay throw hands and Ospreay gets a leaping corkscrew kick to Hechicero’s head. Ospreay goes to the top and gets a springboard elbow strike for two. Hechicero fights off a pick up and Ospreay gets a series of kicks to Hechicero’s head. Hechicero gets to his feet and drops the straps. They trade kicks and Ospreay gets an insignia.

Ospreay charges at Heichcero who gets a guillotine head scissors and covers for two with Ospreay grabbing the rope for the break. Callus goes too ringside to complain and Hechicero beats down on Ospreay. The doctor gets into the ring to check on Ospreay as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Hechicero has Ospreay in an abdominal stretch. Ospreay fights free and Hechicero gets a rear headlock from the apron into the ropes. Hechicero breaks the hold and Ospreay charges at Hechicero, and Hechicero sends Ospreay to the floor and then dives onto Ospreay. Ospreay is rolled into the ring and Hechicero goes to the top for a guillotine for two. 

Hechicero tries for a suplex, but Ospreay turns it into stundog millionaire. Hechicero goes to the top and Ospreay gives him a superkick. Hechicero gets a small package for two. Ospreay gets a backslide for two and then another superkick. Hechicero blocks the Oz Cutter and turns it into the triangle choke. Ospreay is able to pull Hechicero up and makes it into a Styles clash and follows with a Hidden Blade for the pin and the win. 

Winner: Will Ospreay. 

Don Callis says it is now time for plan B. 

Mark Davis charges into the ring and starts the post match beat down. 

Renee is in the ring but before she can talk, Thekla has a mic in the crowd and says no one paid to see her. Thekla says she beat down Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor comes from the back and says Thekla didn’t win fair. They go back and forth with insults. Thekla says no one can handle Thekla, and Alex is in the ring and says let’s see about that right now. 

Thekla says no. Alex challenges for Collision, and Thekla agrees as Skye Blue and Julia Hart try to attack, but Alex fights them off and chases into the crowd after Thekla. 

In the back, Mox he likes surprises him but Ospreay didn’t surprise him. He asks Shafir how he looks and she says “Rough”. He says maybe he knew what no one else knew. He then gives Nick Wayne a match for the Continental Championship tomorrow night and maybe he’ll surprise him. 

Willow Nightingale (TBS Champion) vs Kamille

Kamille charges at Willow, who dodges and they go back and forth with heavy blows. Willow slams Kamille’s head into the turnbuckles. Kamille gets a pump kick and then whips Willow to the corner. Willow dodges the charge and hits a series of forearms. Willow pulls her from the corner and Kamille kicks Willow’s taped shoulder. They go back to fighting back and forth with Willow taking the worst of it.

Kamille snaps Willow’s arm over the top rope. Willow chops her into the corner and Kamille gets an arm wrench sending Willow to the mat as we go to picture in picture.  

When we return to full screen, Willow is selling the injured shoulder. Willow tries clothesline and Kamille doesn’t drop until the third. Kamille pops up and Willow hits the pounce and then a cannonball in the corner for two. Willow tries for the power bomb, but Kamille can’t be lifted and Kamille gets a facebuster followed by a leaping leg drop for two. 

Willow tries for a sunset flip, and Kamille fights free and grabs a juji gitame. Willow rolls into it for a cover for two. Kamille gets an arm whip. Willow shoves Kamille into the corner and gets a backslide for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TBS Champion: Willow Nightingale

In the back Hikaru Shida claps for Willow as Kris Statlander is there. She then says they are teaming tomorrow night on Collision. It’s super clear Shida is working as a heel.

As Renee asks Darby about the match, Sting appears and tells Darby he knows what to do, so go do it. Darby says it’s Showtime and Sting says NO! It’s YOUR TIME!

MJF (AEW World Champion) vs Darby Allin

The match is starting at 9 pm central, which used to be the end of the show, but we get overruns every week now that WWE isn’t using them.

They are REALLY pushing Darby here.

MJF stalls and then hands his ring to the Ref and when the ref gives it to someone at ringside, he hits a low blow and he grabs a side headlock and Darby shoots him off toward the ref, who gets out of the way and allows Darby to get a low blow. Darby hits a scorpion death drop, four coffin drops from each corner and then a side headlock takeover for the pin and the win.

The locker room empties out to celebrate with Darby in the ring. Confetti flies and Sting comes to the ring as well. As they hug we are desperately out of time!
