TONY KHAN TALKS CHRIS JERICHO, AEW DYNASTY, BIDDING ON WWE, KYLE FLETCHER INJURY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2026-04-10 15:11:00

AEW President Tony Khan took part in a media conference call yesterday to promote Sunday's AEW Dynasty PPV in Vancouver.  Key highlights:

On Kyle Fletcher’s Injury:  Kyle Fletcher is expected to be out for months. I’m looking at it glass half full, because we were very concerned when he got hurt. He’s a very important wrestler for AEW and was involved in many plans, including AEW Dynasty.  The positive is that I don’t expect him to be out for a year, and I’m optimistic he could return in time for AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. I think that’s a realistic goal.”

On Orlando as a Potential AEW Market with the Jaguars playing Camping World Stadium: “That’s a fantastic question. I hadn’t considered that before, but it’s a great idea. We’ve had great experiences in Orlando, including Revolution 2022, which is one of my favorite pay-per-views we’ve ever done.  It’s a great wrestling town and a strong TV market for AEW. With the Jaguars playing there, it could create opportunities for bigger events in the future.”

On TNA Pulling Talent From AEW-Related Shows “I was surprised to see those matches changed. MJF and Ricochet both came to me and asked about those matches, and I approved them.  AEW has always been open to working with other promotions—we have great collaborations with CMLL and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. I had heard everything was agreed upon, so something must have changed.”

On Joshi Talent & Women’s Division: “There are so many great joshi wrestlers around the world, and there are a number of people I’d like to bring into AEW and Ring of Honor.  With Toni Storm out, it creates opportunities for others to step up. We have a great relationship with STARDOM and New Japan, especially heading into Forbidden Door, and I expect you’ll see more of that talent soon.”

On Chris Jericho’s Return:  "I’m very excited to have Chris Jericho back in AEW. He’s been instrumental since the very beginning.  He had a choice of where he wanted to go, and he chose AEW, which makes great sense because AEW is where the best wrestle.  His return match against Ricochet at Dynasty is a fresh matchup between two world-class wrestlers who have never faced each other.”

On Jericho’s New Contract: “We signed a multi-year deal, and I’m very excited to have Chris Jericho in AEW for years to come.  There was a lot of interest in him around the world, but he chose to be here, and that says a lot about where AEW is right now.”

On Bidding for WWE (2023): “It was an interesting opportunity in the market. I only had access to the same public information as everyone else, so my bid reflected the stock market price.  I didn’t have data room access or additional details, which made it challenging to go further, but I felt it was worth exploring given the situation in the wrestling business.”

On Hypothetical WWE Acquisition: “We never got close to considering what would happen beyond the bid. My focus has always been AEW.  At that time, I was also very active in signing major talent and building the future of AEW.”

On AEW’s Growth & Momentum: “AEW is in a very positive place right now. Our viewership is the highest it’s been in years, and we’re building on the momentum from 2025 into 2026.  We’re thriving, and I think everything is coming together in a great way.”

On MJF vs. Kenny Omega: “These are two wrestlers who have been instrumental to AEW from the very beginning.  Kenny Omega helped launch the company, and MJF was one of the handpicked stars to build it around. Now they meet at the top, and it’s a very special and compelling rivalry.”

On AEW Philosophy: “There’s no such thing as perfection. We’re always striving to do our best.  Wrestling is 52 weeks a year, and we’re constantly trying to improve, try new ideas, and present the best possible shows for the fans.”

On AEW’s Identity: “AEW is where the best wrestle. We’re very fortunate to have great wrestlers, great rivalries, and fans who support us and give us the opportunity to keep growing.”

On Wrestling in General: “As long as nobody’s getting hurt and everybody’s safe, every day we spend in wrestling is a great day.  I love working in wrestling, and I still love watching it even when I’m not working.”
