FLYING FRED CURRY PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2026-04-03 18:21:00

Bobby Fulton announced that Flying Fred Curry has passed away at the age of 82.

The son of notorious heel "Wild" Bill Curry, Fred Curry (real name Fred Thomas Koury Jr)  was a top technical and high-flying talent, working through the 1960s and 1970s, primarily in the Mid-West and Texas.  Curry's dropkicks were the centerpiece of his work in the ring and were considered some of the best at the time, as he would unleash a lightning-fast flurry of them in a short, explosive showing.

Curry began his career in the 1960s, initially teaming with his father.  The duo held the NWA International Tag Team Championship and also the Detroit version of the NWA World Tag Team Championship.  He and Tony Marino also held the Detroit version of those belts.  Curry regularly teamed with Fritz Von Erich in Texas.  In Big Time Wrestling, Currry feuded with The Original Sheik over the United States Championship.

In the late 1970s, Curry worked for the WWWF as a babyface, sometimes teaming with Ivan Putski against the likes of The Valiants, Johnny Rodz, Victor Rivera and Baron Mikel Scicluna.
