Callum Newman last challenged for the IWGP World Title against Hirooki Goto last year, which he lost. United Empire at the time was in disarray, but now is getting back on track. They have been hyping Newman up throughout the tournament, and it would be a disappointment if he does not win the World Title. I see Newman winning the World Championship and he will have instant challengers in Uemura, Umino and Tsuji, which they could build up over the next year. Tsuji will still hold the Global Championship, so he does not really lose his status. On commentary, they mentioned how Hiroshi Tanahashi once approached Callum Newman and told him that he needs Callum in New Japan. They made a big investment in Newman tonight and we shall see if that investment will pay dividends in the coming months and years. Newman just needs to stay healthy and avoid major injury.Thank you for reading.
