It was announced today that Universal Pictures will release The Mummy 4 starring Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz on 5/19/28.
The film franchise helped launch Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in Hollywood when he portrayed The Scorpion King in the second installment of the franchise, The Mummy Returns. That led to a spinoff film for Johnson, his first starring role as the lead in a film, with that franchise having several sequels without Johnson, but featuring Dave Bautista in one.
There is no word whether Johnson would reprise his role - or play another - in the new film. but he told Entertainment Tonight a month ago he would be "always open" to a return, praising Brendan Frasier, who OK'd Johnson's entry into the francise, noting that franchise changed his life.
