When the show went off the air, Sami Zayn stayed in the ring and gave a beautiful speech to the crowd. This is the speech.
“I think this is incredible, because this is the greatest wrestling city in the world. I don’t even know what to say to fully express how I feel. I truly, truly don’t have the words. I’ve been so lucky—so incredibly lucky—to stand in this ring. And thank God, I love you all. (Crowd chant You deserve it.)
I want to thank all of Montreal. The truth is, you are a huge part of who I am. There’s a hole inside me when I feel like I’m not being myself. I want to become a champion, and of course being amazing and all that satisfies a part of my ego. I’ll be honest—part of me wants to be a champion for my ego—but a much bigger part of it is about making you proud.
Thank you for having my back in this city for the past 23 years. And there’s one thing about the city of Montreal—it’s a city of believers. You kept saying Montreal would win. The Canadiens hadn’t won the Cup since 1993, but this city never stopped believing. And you never stopped believing in your guys. That’s why you never give up on the Habs, and that’s why you never stop cheering for me.
I’m proud to be your guy. What I need more than anything in the world to become a champion is momentum. Momentum. And I keep telling myself that I wouldn’t have the momentum I have right now if it wasn’t for you—if it wasn’t for this city and everyone screaming at the top of their lungs. So thank you for that.
Thank you so much, Montreal. I love you.”
