ALEX HONNOLD MAKES HISTORY WITH HIGHEST FREE-SOLO URBAN CLIMB, CONQUERING TAIPEI 101 WITHOUT ROPES
TAIPEI, TAIWAN - JANUARY 25, 2026 - History was made as one of the greatest climbers of all time, Alex Honnold, successfully free-soloed one of the world’s most iconic skyscrapers, becoming the first person in history to climb Taipei 101 without any rope or harness. The live event, which was hosted by Elle Duncan, included colorful commentary from expert Emily Harrington, play-by-play Pete Woods, panelist Seth Rollins, and correspondent Mark Rober. The nearly two hour broadcast hosted by Elle Duncan, brought viewers together into the heart of the climb as it unfolded moment by moment on screen. With unprecedented access to the scale, precision, and focus required for a feat of this magnitude, the live broadcast placed fans on the building with Alex through real-time storytelling, tension and triumph.
In climbing Taipei 101, Honnold finished the highest free solo climb of an urban structure in history. It took him 91 minutes and 30 seconds.
Following the climb, a press panel was held in Taipei 101 with panelists Alex Honnold, his wife Sanni Honnold, James Smith (Executive Producer) and Emily Harrington; moderated by Elle Duncan. They discussed the intricacies of accomplishing such a feat and what it means for Alex and the climbing community.
