REPORT ON WHERE AEW PPVS WLL LAND POST-NETFLIX ACQUISITION OF WBD, WBD STAKE IN AEW, JR, MJF AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2026-01-21 08:30:00

The Hollywood Reporter noted that all signs are that if/when Netflix acquires Warner Bros. Discovery, AEW PPVs are expected to remain on HBO Max thanks to existing contracts.  AEW has a deal to air on TBS and TNT through the end of 2027 with an option through 2028 if WBD (or Discovery, post-sale) wish to extend.  It's also surmised that perhaps the PPV streaming rights could end up on not just HBO Max but also a new streaming service that Discovery will launch after they split off from WBD.  AEW is not expected to land on Netflix post-sale as WWE has an exclusivity clause in their deal.

The Hollywood Reporter article also noted that WBD is believed to own 9% of AEW, which is something that neither side has ever publicly confirmed or denied.

Announced for next week's AEW Dynamite from Austin, Texas will feature AEW Tag Team Champions FTR with Stokely Hathaway vs. Mark Davis & Jake Doyle with Don Callis.

Best wishes to Jim Ross, who has had a lot of issues when it comes to his health in recent years as he announced that he will miss tonight's AEW broadcast after taking a bad fall that led to him laying on the floor for hours:

AEW Champion MJF spoke theme park with WDWNT:

MJF was also interviewed by Spectrum Channel 13 in Orlando to promote tonight's Dynamite.  On the company, MJF said, “We’re still in its infancy, whether people realize that or not. We’re a baby. We’re a seven-year-old company that’s has pretty much monthly to bi-monthly 140,000 people buying our pay-per-views, which I think is why it’s à propos that I’m the world champion because I’ve done the same. I’ve only been in this industry for exactly 10 years."
