PWInsider.com is sad to pass on that Kenneth LeBlanc, known in the ring as Frogman Leblanc, passed away on 1/3, according to an obituary published online this week. LeBlanc was 73 at the time of his passing.
In the annals of professional wrestling, Frogman Leblanc will be best known as the first-ever opponent for future WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin when Austin debuted in 1989 in Dallas under his real name, Steve Williams:
LeBlanc was born and raised in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. After a stint in the Air Force and working as a mechanic in the Air Reserves, LeBlance played semi-pro football for the New Orleans Blue Knights before coming across an advertisement for a pro wrestling school in Fort Worth, Texas. After training with Iceman Parsons, Percy Pringle and John Tatum, he was set to debut as a masked performer named Frogs Leblanc but opted to ditch the mask due to the Texas heat and was accidentally introduced as Frogman Leblanc. Figuring the name was used on TV, Leblanc retained the moniker.
LeBlanc worked in the late 80s as an undercard babyface for World Class Championship Wrestling and would later do enhancement work for WCW as well, putting over the likes of Sting and The Great Muta. He was done in the ring by the early 1990s. After his run in the ring, he promoted independent cards and owned a foot truck in the Baton Rogue area.
PWInsider.com sends our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Frogman Leblanc.
