What are the chances that the ECW footage ends up on Netflix on January 1st?
I would take none on that one.
What ever became of Matt Morgan?
He went into local politics in Florida after retiring from wrestling.
I know it’s far too early to know, but what is your opinion on how Netflix feels about WWE PLE’s in the U.S. being on ESPN for the foreseeable future? Part of me would think that they’d like to get the additional monthly PLE views that their weekly show is almost always building towards. Plus, having the PLE’s would probably help lock up RAW past Netflix’s option to opt out after however many years.
My take is that if Netflix wanted them badly enough, they would have outbid Disney. As we have seen with WBD, Netflix is not opposed to spending big money. My guess is that they didn’t want to beat Disney’s offer. What that means? Well, that would just be speculation but it would seem that since Netflix had the better part of a year to see how the PLEs performed outside of the US, they had a figure as to what they thought it would be worth to acquire the US and it was less than what Disney paid.
Any word on how Disney/ESPN is feeling so far with their WWE deal? Probably too early to really say since they haven’t had WrestleMania yet, but I have a hard time believing that WWE events made the “splash” that the ESPN wanted for the app when launching.
I have heard some grumbling from WWE’s side about how things have gone so far but I don’t have any contacts at ESPN/Disney. On the surface, it doesn’t seem like WWE has made a big splash on ESPN but they have only had three events so far, and one aired from Saudi Arabia. I think we will get a better idea of the state of the relationship after WrestleMania season. I never thought that adding the WWE PLEs would make a lot of people buy ESPN’s standalone service though. Most people who only wanted to see the PLEs weren’t going to pony up $50 a month for them.
