What are your thoughts on the gaps between matches at Survivor Series? For me it killed any momentum that a match built up, and at 2am where I am made it really hard to watch the show without falling asleep.
I don't blame you on almost falling asleep. WWE under TKO is about squeezing every potential drop out of the lemon in terms of revenue, but having so much dead time between the matches was beyond excessive. WWE is a different animal. It's a storyline-driven show, not a combat sports event driven by 1-2 headline fights that you are waiting for. The commercials killed the momentum of the broadcast over and over. It's what UFC does, to the point that I stopped making plans to attend UFC live years ago. I noted after attending Wrestlemania 41 that the amount of time between matches hurt the live experience in my opinion. It's not going to change, because TKO is making their money this way and this is how they produce their shows now under Lee Fitting. If you compare if to the AEW Full Gear PPV, the amount of wrestling for your time and dollar was WAY more than the Survivor Series.
Recently I've been watching some videos of The Undertaker from 91 to 92 and I have to say, has there been anyone ever more perfect to play the role of this dark and erie character than Mark Calaway? Just watching his methodical movements, the make up, the attire, looking at the crowd when he comes out they look completely uncomfortable, children look scared out of their minds - some are even frozen in fear.. When the WWE first came up with this character, did they imagine as to how perfect Mark Calaway was going to pull it off?
I can't speak for what they were thinking at the time. In 1991, I was in High School. There's no denying they found the right person for the job and the longevity of the character. I do want to point out that their shows were all post-produced at that point (beyond PPVs) so it was easy to find the right fans giving the right reactions and then edit it into the final product.
When did wrestling companies decide to ditch proper Titantrons and are now just (mostly) just mini animations? I noticed it when i went to the WWE event in Cardiff....not sure why i hadn't really noticed on TV...but yeah.
It was just a decision made by management over time. I am guessing eventully they will pepper in footage again.
When did WWE ditch most of the ringside photogaphers?
When they made the move to HD.
Good job on reporting Liv Morgan and Austin Theory's returns. I saw some people on Twitter didn't want to believe your reporting. Did any apologize after?
I honestly have no idea. I'm not worried about social media. I'm worried about doing my job. Twitter, like a lot of social media, is pretty much a place for random people to have tantrums in a knee-jerk reaction, nothing more. I have a hard time taking any of it seriously at this point.
Why was Austin Theory masked?
He was masked to give the idea that perhaps it was Seth Rollins interfering. For all we know, Theory may never be revealed as having been the one attacking. We will have to see how it all plays out.
