I have been on a break / boycott of WWE for about 2 months. I already have peacock so I decided to check out Saturday Late Afternoon Main Event (I'm on the west coast, the show started at 4pm) as I watched, the one thing I kept thinking was what's the difference between the different WWE shows, Saturday nights main event, Raw, Smackdown, or insert name of PLE? The only difference I can see is the name of the show & the venue. Saturday nights main event was on at 11:30pm when I was growing up & it was an event, it felt different. Now to me every WWE show looks & feels the same. Am I missing something?
Yes, you are missing the fact that you are comparing two very different eras. SNME felt special back in the day because WWE TV was filled with squash matches so it was different and special. Obviously, that isn’t the case in 2025.
My question may seem rhetorical, but maybe I'm missing something. Under Triple H, they did away with the HIAC PLE because it forced a gimmick match into a schedule instead of using the match when it called for it. How is booking two WarGames matches, consisting of several wrestlers teaming up, into an already scheduled November event any different than the HIAC PLE concept?
I have made that same comparison this year because the build to the War Games matches has been meh at best. With that said, the previous two were booked to very, very well. I think it just comes down to HHH losing a bit off of his fastball this year. If he can get that back, there’s no reason he can’t make the build to the War Games matches strong again.
I have been a big fan of Ethan Page since his Men of the Year days in AEW. I always thought he had a great look, size, ring work, and promo ability. That said, I truly think Page has blossomed with his character work in NXT, where he effortlessly switches between vicious, crafty, and comedic heel work. Do you feel Page can ultimately take the “KO spot” - the upper mid card/main event heel role - where Page become a world champion? Do you also feel Ethan Page can become a big player in WWE within the next 5 years?
If WWE wanted to, they could put Page on the main roster right now. I think he’s great at what he does. I don’t know what their long term plans with him are, but he is super talented for sure.
Je’ Von Evans - I felt that Raw in NY was a great showcase for him, hanging with a former world champion as well as he did. Gunther gave him plenty of offense and he got to show his stuff in MSG, doesn’t get much better than that. I hope his body holds out, as his offense is high risk and obviously tough on the body, despite his youth. Do you think it needs to be reigned in a little to preserve his health, or is he striking a good balance? I’m super old school, so I’m not always the best judge.
I think all of the talents that are doing insane stuff all of the time should reign it back in a bit for the sake of their longevity. Spots are cool, for sure, but the real pros learn that they can build to a big spot and get a great reaction and it’s better for their bodies. I think doing spots early in a career to get noticed is fine. While a talent is doing that, they should be working on their character and connecting with fans. That is what will really give them a long career.
