Wrestling Open RI “The Finish Line”
Spotlight Match 1: Bobby Casale vs Handyman Jake Gray
Bobby has a MMA background and uses it to great effect at pummeling Gray. He’s Brock Lesnaring him until Jake rolls up a delay vertical suplex and gets the win! Good showcase for Casale’s vicious streak!
Spotlight Match 2: Richard Adonis vs Jay Skye
Adonis tries to bully Skye but Jay quickly starts to pick up the pace. Adonis looks to slow it down with heavy kicks to the spine. Adonis starting to talk a lot of smack to his opponent but he never loses focus on his task. Jay trying to squirm free but Adonis keeping him down and in pain. Skye with one last rally and finally drops Adonis to get the pin! Decent match for a crowd that did not know either of these guys. Both of them were trained by Pete Dunne, which explains Adonis’ look a little bit.
We’ve got the finals of the Eliminator Cup tournament tonight kicking us off and this match could not be more emotionally charged, as Ichiban teams with Brando Lee against the team that took $50000 of Max Caster’s money to destroy our number one.
Match 1: Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King) vs Mythical Ones (Ichiban & Brando Lee)
Wait. Where are Ichiban & Lee? They don’t come through the curtain. Camera cuts to the backstage and it looks like Ichiban has been assaulted backstage and covered in chairs and tables. Brando Lee checks on his partner but heads to the ring himself. This is VERY reminiscent of the inaugural IWTV tag team championship match where Kylon took on Violence in forever single handed….but now it’s Miracle Generation in that position of power. Well, they have the numbers advantage but Lee is running through MG in the early minutes…until a blind tag by King set up a superkick German and here we go with the beatdown. The crowd is behind Lee but they can feel the inevitable. Several minutes of torture go by as King and Waller are yelling at Lee to just give it up. Brando Lee is NOT quitting…MG collides on a double kick! Lee has his chance to take them out. HERE COMES ICHIBAN!!!! Lee tags in and Ichiban is taking them both on! Top rope leg lariat ddt combo! He goes for the Ichi Bankai but King pulls him out of the ring! Lee intercepts King! The Bankai connects! King breaks up the pin and tosses Ichi facefirst into the buckles. Lee makes his way back in to save Ichi from a double suplex! Ichiban and MG going back and forth but the numbers game is strong. Lee from the heavens with a double stomp to break up King’s German bridge pin! This is awesome! Both teams brawling! Big strikes back and forth! King lariats Lee to the floor! Ichibsets up the finish again….King sets up to blindside but Ichi intercepts…Waller with a low blow! Miracles Generation unloading the superkick clip. The double knee to the back of the head for two connects. King with a lazy pin…Ichiban kicks out!!! Lee finally stirring on the floor as MG goes for the Powerplex. Brando bombs King off the top! Waller with a splash! Ichi hits a destroyer!!!! Somersault to the floor! Waller thrown back in for the DVD/Splash/Moonsault combo and that puts him down for the three! Ichiban and Brando Lee have won the 2025 Eliminator Cup Tournament! This was some excellent tag team drama to start the night. How DO we follow this?
Match 2: Notorious Mimi vs Shannon LaVangie (w/ Liviyah)
The WWEID Women’s Champion will be decided next week in a 6-way elimination match…and these two are a third of that match. This is as much a preview for next week as it is an opportunity for them to soften up an opponent. Mimi displaying the heelish confidence we’ve seen from her last visits…but LaVangie is holding her own. Mimi flattens her with an electric chair snake eyes and a pair of heavy boots in the corner. Shannon tries to fight back but gets caught in a gory bomb! She fights out of a second electric chair and hits a cutter that gives some breathing room. Shannon with a missile dropkick! She drops Mimi once more and hits a sparkle splash for the win! Liviyah slides in and holds her hand up high!
Match 3: Devious Cass vs Aaron Rourke
I’m still not sure what makes Devious Cass so devious. He’s an author? Books are bad? Anyways, we all cheer for “Evil Gay” Aaron as he starts running through Cass. DC with a heavy hand to Rourke when he comes running. To his credit, Cass is landing hard but the crowd is DEEP in his head with these “weak” chants. he starts landing heavy knees to the head but can’t get it done. Rourke finally coming back, a big spinning head kick sets up a handstand rana off the top! Rourke goes for a split legged moonsault but Cass gets the knees up! Rourke almost gets rolled up but he channels his inner Samoa Joe and locks in a deep rear naked choke for the win! This was a lot of fun!
Match 4: Shazza McKenzie vs Gabby Forza
A rematch from Thursday! I enjoyed this a lot last week so glad that Cranston gets to see this one. Shazza doesn’t blindside her this time but she is pulling from a slightly different bag of heel tricks and it’s not paying off very well. Shazza dodges a Vader bomb and tries to win off a boot wash. A swinging neckbreaker cant get it done either. The crowd assures Shazza that Gnomie is going to kill her. McKenzie tries to chokes Gabby out but Gnomie picks up her and Oklahoma stampedes her. A Vader bomb sets up the spear and Shazza stays VERY down for the three!
Match 5: Shooter Boys(c) (Anthony Vecchio & Aaron Ortiz) vs Simply the Best (BRG & Oxx Adams) (for the Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships)
BRG is bragging about how the Shooter Boys fell into his grand trap to put the tag titles on the line for them. We shall see. BRG immediately tags in Oxx but Ortiz is not scared of the giant. The Shooter Boys seem to have a plan for the monster but it quickly falls apart when they fail to suplex the man. Vecchio is blasted with a lariat and BRG comes in to pick at the scraps. And that’s kind of how this starts to go: BRG in and gets into trouble…here comes the big man. Vecchio just getting the worst of it while Ortiz is trying his best to hype up his partner. Vecchio finally rams Oxx into BRG…he has to fight hard for it but he finally gets to the corner! Ortiz in hot on BRG while Oxx recovers on the outside. Adams back in to break up a pin with a powerful downward slap to Ortiz! BRG tries to capitalize but Oxx is sent to the floor again and Ortiz rolls him up for the three! Some master plan!
The match is over but the fight isn’t. Oxx back in to attack. BRG cheers him on while he double chokeslams the Shooter Boys repeatedly.
Cue the STETSON RANCH MUSIC. Nonooooooo. They’ve been holding onto that Opportunity Knocks tag team contract for some time. Steven Stetson and Brian Morris are here for the challenge.
Match 6: Shooter Boys (Anthony Vecchio & Aaron Ortiz) vs Stetson Ranch (Stetson Ranch & Brian Morris) (for the Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships)
Stetson posts Ortiz. They hit Vecchio with a Demolition Device and that’s the match. 26 seconds later and the Stetson Ranch are the new Wrestling Open Tag Team Champions. Stetson goes for some post match attacks but Ichiban and Brando Lee run down for the save. Stetson and Morris run off…but they ARE the new champs. UGHHHH.
Main Event: Marcus Mathers vs Bear Bronson (w/ Special Guest Ref Fancy Ryan Clancy)
The IWTV champ is officiating this clash but he has some definite friction with both these participants. Both Bronson and Mathers have interesting looks for the ref. Bear and Marcus go right at it but Clancy keeps drawing their ire by…well…doing ref stuff. I mean, Clancy is NOT AFRAID to get in their faces so that probably doesn’t help. Bear looking Clancy dead in the eyes as he chops Marcus up. Mathers doing the same as he starts landing on Bronson. Mathers encourages us to get outnofnournchairs cause he wants to bomb Bear into the chairs. Bronson just sits on him and bends his spine in a VERY uncomfortable way. Again, Clancy is just doing ref stuff…but Bear in particular can’t help but talk smack to and about Clancy. Ryan doesn’t have a favorite here but you can see the smile when Bear misses anything. Marcus sends Bronson to the floor and flies out after! Mathers with a delay German, Clancy with a clean count but only a two. Mathers starts raking the back but Clancy cuts that off…Marcus does not like this. Bear with a black hole slam. Again, only two. Bronson starts mauling Marcus and Clancy has to shove him off that attack. Bear with a near collision in the corner with Clancy, Marcus lands a superkick and could have gotten the three but Ryan took too long getting back into position. Mathers is FURIOUS about that. Bear takes the fight to the top…Mathers powerbombs him down! Clancy is in position this time but Bear kicks out! This time, Mathers knows the two isn’t Clancy’s fault and they have a little fist bump of understanding. Bear starting to comeback but in the heat of the back and forth combo, he clotheslines Clancy! Mathers starts unloading superkicks as Clancy slowly recovers in the corner. Bear with the chokebomb. Clancy turns back “You think I’m gonna count after you just hit me?!?” Bear is up and in his face. Clancy goes for a KO dropkick but he tags Mathers by accident. Bear makes the cover and demands the count. Clancy makes the slowest count he can…but Marcus is VERY down and out.
Bear and Clancy are right in each other’s faces while Mathers is down. Aaron Rourke runs down to break it up! Rourke says everyone is sick and tired of this crap. Enough! Rourke asks them both if they trust him. THEY DO. Rourke has an idea on how to fix this. Rourke says they need to work together and not against each other. A reluctant Fancy Bears reunion? Bear and Clancy very hesitantly agree to give Aaron what he wants. But who are they fighting? Aaron Rourke and Marcus Mathers! Mathers looks them both over as Clancy and Bear trade uneasy and untrusting looks. VERY interesting end to a very good night. We have four more weeks of Monday night wrestling in Cranston that have been announced so far. Hopefully we’ll get news about a continuation or extension after this Friday.
