11/08/25 Results from New Japan's Road to Anjo, the coins drop... Tanahashi's Final Opponent Revealed in Aichi, Japan:
1 - Tatsuya Matsumoto vs. Katsuya Murashima
Murashima forces Matsumoto to tap out to a Boston Crab.
2 - Shoma Kato and Zane Jay vs. Taichi and Masatora Yasuda
Taichi hits an Ax Bomber and a Dangerous Backdrop on Zane to get the pin,
3 - Tiger Mask, Tomoaki Honma and Boltin Oleg vs. Jakob Austin Young, Callum Newman and Great O-Khan
Newman hits a Prince's Curse on Honma and gets the pin.
Newman kept hitting Honma after the bell, until Oleg made the save. Young and Newman were acting very heelish. O-Khan walked back to the locker alone.
4 - Gedo, Taiji Ishimori and Shingo Takagi vs. SHO, DOUKI and Yujiro Takahashi
Ishimori hits a Bloody Cross on SHO and gets the pin.
Ishimori takes the mic and demands a Jr. Tag Title shot against DOUKI and SHO. El Desperado comes out and demands a Jr. Heavyweight Title shot. DOUKI has his future opponents for his future title defenses.
5 - Ryusuke Taguchi, Yuya Uemura and Shota Umino vs. Daiki Nagai, OSKAR and Yota Tsuji
Uemura forces Nagai to tap out to a Hammer Lock submission.
After the match, Tsuji had words with Uemura and Umino over the Global Title. Taguchi was teasing OSKAR, who chased him into the crowd. It took all the young lions to hold back OSKAR from getting to Taguchi.
Good heat for OSKAR who looked like a monster amongst the crowd.
6 - El Desperado, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Harley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa and Zack Sabre Jr.
Bishomon hit a Shoto on Jackson. Goto gets the pin.
7 - NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship: Master Wato, YOH and Toru Yano vs. Dick Togo, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and EVIL
Aaron Wolfe comes out to the ring with Yano, Wato and YOH. Yujiro Takahashi is at ringside for the House of Toture.
Lots of shenanigans in this match. Kanemaru spits whiskey in Wato's eyes. EVIL hits Wato with a chair. Aaron Wolfe runs in the ring to protect Wato, but EVIL hits Wolfe with the chair. Yano hits a low blow on EVIL. Then two more low blows on Kanemaru and Togo. YOH spits whiskey in Kanemaru's face. Wato hits a flying elbow on Togo. Wato hits a Recientemente then applies Vendaval.
Togo taps out.
Master Wato, YOH and Toru Yano retain the NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship.
After the match, Wolfe kept selling the chairshot by EVIL.
8 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Yuto-Ice
Solid match. They wrestled in the beginning until Yuto started throwing stiff shots. Tanahashi came back with heatbutts and several Dragon Screws. Tanahashi applies the Texas Cloverhold. Rope break. Yuto hits a right punch to the jaw and a punt kick. Tanahashi hits a Slingblade and a High Fly Flow. Yuto kicks out. Tanahashi hits an Aces High and another High Fly Flow.
Tanahashi pins Yuto.
Tanahashi takes the mic and thanks the fans in Anjo.
Then.... the coins drop.
Out comes Kazuchika Okada. With Gedo, in his garb, when he used to manage Okada. Okada was not in AEW character.
Gedo announces Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada, at Wrestle Kingdom. Tanahashi's final match.
No lame tournament. New Japan gives the Japanese fans what they want. It would have been awesome to announce this match before a larger crowd (no disrespect to Anjo). Gedo's subtle face turn in the Super Jr. Tag League now makes sense.
