Madison Garrison Bush, the granddaughter of the late Buford Pusser issued the following statement as the town of Adamsville, TN held a town hall regarding the investigative findings that Pusser was likely the culprit behind the death of his wife, Bush's grandmother Pauline Pusser and likely would have been prosecuted if he was still alive. The Buford Pusser Museum posted the statement on their official Facebook page:
"To my Hometown of Adamsville and McNairy County - I am Madison Garrison-Bush, Pauline and Buford’s Granddaughter and Dwana’s only remaining daughter.
I want to start this off with None of us are perfect, if we were we wouldn’t need Jesus.
My Grandfather, Sheriff Buford Pusser, left behind more than a story — he left a legacy of courage, justice, and unwavering devotion to his community. His fight against corruption and his strength in the face of tragedy remind us all that one person’s determination can change the course of a town and county. The Buford Pusser Museum and his hometown stand as living tributes to that spirit. For me, his legacy isn’t just history — it’s family, it’s pride, and it’s the reminder that doing what’s right is always worth the fight.
Do I believe my grandfather killed my grandmother in the ambush? I absolutely do not, and there are many reasons for that. From the time I was born, I knew who my granddad and grandmother were just as much as I knew who my mom and dad were. Everything that has been brought up in recent events is circumstantial and hearsay. I may not have gotten to know my grandparents while they were physically still alive however for 35 years stories from their friends, and those close to them have poured so many stories into me and about how lives were positivity affected. My grandfather loved Adamsville, McNairy Co and the people in it. It was my mom’s mission to continue and promote his legacy. While doing that she was also taking me on trips to the capital in Tennessee to pick up grants for museum and ones for the city of Adamsville as well, to speaking engagements all over the US where I heard stories of how so many decided to go into Law Enforcement.
Also for those concerned about the museum and tax dollars, the museum is now in the black not red due to some necessary financial changes that were needed for some years now and have been made. Also for every tourist that comes to our hometown to visit the museum and the festival, theres lots of tourism tax dollars driven back to the city.
I know I’m quieter and live states away now but I am trying to create my own legacy like my Grandfather, Buford did (differently but he showed me what leaving a Legacy means).
As I sat there virtually in attendance and after saying my piece for my family- I had on my mom’s dress and jacket and some of her jewelry. A picture of her and my sister, Atoyia, beside me. If my mother were still with us, her Multiple Sclerosis would be really bad but I know this would have never happened to begin with if she were still alive. So as I trying to make my own Legacy I remember all she’s done to keep my granddads alive and I won’t let his legacy die. I and many others will continue to promote the Legacy he left that has inspired so many! We will Keep Walking On!
Thank you to Adamsville Mayor and City Council for their due diligence and hearing out the people of Adamsville, McNairy County and beyond tonight."
