With the questions of celebrities being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, I got to thinking about Steve "Mongo" McMichael. He wasn't the greatest performer but he did accompany Lawrence Taylor to the ring in his match at WrestleMania 11. He was one of the original voices of WCW Monday Nitro in the announce booth. Do you feel that he deserves to be in? On a related question, what about Lawrence Taylor?
I wouldn’t have an issue with either being in there. After all, James Dudley is in the Hall.
Samantha Irvin's 2 year no-compete clause is insane, and is much longer than the WWE standard 90-day clause. Was this 2 year clause included in her original contract, and if so, why would anyone want to agree to these terms? Or was this clause imposed after she made the decision to end her contract?
She asked for her release and one of the terms WWE required to give it to her was the non-compete. I would assume that she agreed to the time period because she wanted to leave and had no desire to ring announce elsewhere when she asked for her release. She wanted to be a singer.
My question is a nature vs nurture question.
Hook debuted in late 2020 on TV and started actively wrestling in 2021. He had a presence about him and looked to be a star in the making. He went from being a loner who was associated with his dad's faction to being a loner in random AEW factions to now being a loner in a lower level tag team on the pre show with Eddie Kingston with the only real connections being they are both from NYC have a similar personality. There has also not been a lot of growth in his ring work.
Dominik Mysterio debuted on TV with his dad in 2019 roughly a year earlier and started wrestling in a tag team with his dad in 2020. He had very little presence while on TV and appeared to be there only because of who is dad is. His character has shown significant growth over the last 5 years and is now one of the most hated men in the promotion. Once he turns face, I would assume he will be in the world title picture at some point. His ring work has shown significant improvement and plays into his character. He is clearly a star.
Both are about same age. Hook is lower on the roster than his debut and Dom is significantly higher, something that I would not have believed 4 years ago. Is this a result of Hook being much like his father in both character and ring style in an era when things change much quicker (Nature) or that the WWE infrastructure with the Performance center, better stories from Creative, more concise direction from the producers and attention to detail from production that is provided to Dom (Nurture)?
First I have to disagree that Dom is hated. He regularly gets “Dirty Dom” chants and it’s just a matter of when he turns face, not if. He used to get booed but to your point the work he has put in to improve has made the fans like him. I don’t think the issue is nature. I think that if WWE had Hook five years ago they would have done a lot more with him. Hook is hurt by the fact that he works in a company that doesn’t have a good booker. Now, WWE booking isn’t great now either but for the few years preceding 2025 they did. I feel bad for Hook. WWE creative would have done a lot more with him than AEW did.
At some point, do you think either TNA or AEW will shut down - AND - do you think WWE would buy them, if for no other reason than because they can?
I have no idea if they will shut down. I don’t have a crystal ball. If they shut down, would WWE buy them? It’s impossible to say. If they are shutting down because they can’t make money then it would depend on if they wanted the assets. In the old days Vince McMahon wanted the footage. TKO doesn’t have that same priority. Would they buy either for the right price if they were available? I guess we will have to wait and see.
