MARCUS MATHERS VS. FANCY RYAN CLANCY, BEAR BRONSON & MORE: 10/20 WRESTLING OPEN: RHODE ISLAND LIVE REPORT

By Adam Cardoza on 2025-10-21 08:53:00

Wrestling Open RI
10/20/25 – Cranston, RI

Spotlight Match: Harleen Lopez vs. Liviyah

Stoked to see Harleen Lopez debuting here. All attitude and giving the boos right back to Cranston. Liviyah with a quick comeback, Harleen calls for a timeout—it’s a trap! Liv gets posted! Lopez laying in the beating, but Cranston doesn’t want Liv to stay down. Liv with some clotheslines, Harleen tries to beg off to the referee, but Liv grabs her and hits the Showstopper for the win!

Cue Gabby Forza’s music! She heard about the challenge from last Thursday! They are friends… but Gabby accepts the match at Episode 200 when Wrestling Open returns to the White Eagle. But Gabby says, “For that match, our friendship will be on a one-night pause.” They shake hands and head to the back! We haven’t even started the show yet!

Match 1: Simply the Best (BRG & Oxx Adams) vs. Mythical Ones (Ichiban & Brando Lee)
(Eliminator Cup Opening Round)

Lee and Ichiban go right on the attack, but the size of Oxx is an instant factor. Ichiban is dead on the outside while Lee eats a beating. Lee starts his comeback on BRG. Oxx tries to cut it off, but he gets hung up in the ropes. Ichiban gets the Oxx leg as Lee rolls up BRG and gets the three in under four minutes!!! OMG! BRG is beside himself with rage! Ahahahahahahahaha!

Match 2: Will Kroos vs. Bear Bronson

From one meaty match to another, Kroos has had a great few weeks here. It starts friendly, but big boys gonna big boy. The crowd is very much on Bear’s side here, but we don’t hate Kroos. But we are gonna tease him a little. Heavy meat getting slapped and tossed around. No one really having a major edge. Kroos embraces this “beans on toast” chant as he hits a pop-up bomb and cannonball, but Bear won’t stay down. But he’s hurting. Bear blocks the Rikishi Driver! Bear with a chokebomb gets the three! This felt very similar to Thursday’s main event but minus a lot of the redemption-arc storytelling we got in Tyree’s match.

Bear with a huge sign of respect for Kroos, holding his arm up… and Kroos ripcords him into a lariat. He hits that Rikishi Driver! Will on the mic: he didn’t come all this way for a loss and a beans chant. This Thursday, he plans to make an example of this big furry. I enjoyed this a lot and am glad we’re getting a new dimension to his visit with us.

Match 3: Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King) vs. Star Struck (Channing Thomas & Anthony Greene)
(Eliminator Cup Opening Round)

These two teams are chomping at the bit to get ahold of each other. Star Struck is definitely ready for some of the tag team shenanigans of MG. Real good spot where Kylon baseball slides accidentally under Waller and ends up with his partner crossbodying into him. But they don’t let up, and Channing winds up in the hot seat, eating damage through multiple tags and double teams. Channing finally makes space and does a coast-to-coast dive to make the tag! Greene in to clean house! Sick-looking whip rebound gutwrench powerbomb to Waller! Dustin survives a Demolition Drop! Channing going for a piledriver while Kylon intercepts AG! The Miracle Combo almost puts Thomas down, but Greene comes flying in with a splash to break up the pin. “This is awesome!” Channing set up for the Powerplex! AG stops the splash! Kylon fights out of a Doomsday setup. Greene with a roll-up, but Kylon shoves him off into a sneaky chair shot to the head that Ref Gina misses entirely! Kylon rolls Greene up and bridges for the very tainted three. Booooooooo!

Main Event: Marcus Mathers (c) vs. “Fancy” Ryan Clancy
(for the IWTV Independent Wrestling Championship)

We are 45 minutes into the show and we’re at the main event. This could be an epic one. Clancy won three matches in one day a week ago Sunday to claim this title shot. The opening minutes are full of wrestling chess—Mathers and Clancy going hold for hold, trying to secure an advantage. Crowd feels very split here. Both of these guys are faces, but they are taking this fight as serious as a heart attack. Mathers rolling but cut off by a fancy knee drop and a deep abdominal stretch. Clancy starting to get a little annoyed at the Mathers fans and taunting them a little. That lack of focus probably lets Marcus dodge a rolling facebuster, hitting that back kick and a PK off the apron to really stun Clancy. Mathers really turning it on, stomping a mudhole through Clancy. Fancy comes back with some big tosses that leave Mathers writhing in pain. It’s very interesting to me how Clancy’s path to the IWTV belt was very over in Worcester, but it really feels like Cranston is turning on him a bit. Both guys going back and forth as we approach the twenty-minute mark, Mathers starts catching Fancy just a little more flush, but I don’t think we’re near the end here. Marcus has some kind of cut opened on Fancy’s leg that he’s targeting. Clancy tries the KO Dropkick, but Mathers catches it into a deeeeep crab! Mathers to an STF, but Clancy rolls free to the ropes! Mathers still on the leg, attacking the ankle with a toe hold and finally to a Figure Four! Clancy chopping Mathers to free himself, but Marcus is just getting mad. He finally breaks the hold; Clancy is looking absolutely dazed. Mathers gets caught up and bombed on the apron! Clancy has a receipt for all of those painful holds Mathers just put him through. Mathers rolls to the ropes, but they are both in pain. The crowd back-and-forth chanting on these two. Clancy with a superplex, but Mathers picks him up into a corkscrew suplex into the buckles! Crowd back to “This is awesome.” It is. We’ve just hit the 30-minute mark and they are on their knees, trading shots back and forth, each stating how much they want this. Mathers with a stomp to the knee! He comes running… RIGHT INTO THE KO DROPKICK!!! Clancy makes the cover! Mathers kicks out! Ryan fights through the frustration, but Mathers whips him off and hits a dropkick of his own! Clancy kicks out! Mathers mocking the Fancy pose, and the crowd does NOT like that. Clancy sends him over the top; Mathers skins the cat, but Clancy comes in… Mathers is gonna tombstone him on the floor?! Clancy reverses it and hits the tombstone! Both guys are down… they BARELY make the ten count! Phew! Crowd chanting for them to make it to their feet. This crowd has had its ups and downs tonight, but they have gotten LOUD for this one. Mathers dodges another dropkick! High-angle powerbomb! 450 connects! CLANCY KICKS OUT!!! Marcus can’t believe it. The crowd tells him to go for it again. He tries! Clancy stops him and climbs up to prevent this. Marcus beats him down repeatedly… until Clancy just crawls far away. Marcus pulls a limp Clancy up. He hits three of his cradle busters. He goes for the 450 again. Clancy gets the knees up!!!! Clancy hits the dropkick. Marcus falls into Ryan’s arms. Clancy hugs Mathers before pulling him up for a second dropkick for the three count!

WE HAVE A NEW IWTV CHAMPION!!!!
Marcus presents Clancy with the belt; they hug. This is great. Excellent main event match. Marcus can walk away with his head held high though—he had a hell of a 10-month run as champion.

CUE BEAR BRONSON’S MUSIC. HE HAS THE CALL-YOUR-SHOT CONTRACT!!! Is he…? Bear on the mic. The anti-Clancy contingent is ecstatic. Bear is mad that Clancy cost them their spot in the Eliminator Cup tournament. He doesn’t know if he did it on purpose. He doesn’t care. He wanted it, and Clancy took it away from him. The only way to make this right is for Bear to take something from Clancy. Bear says that when the time is right, he will be taking the IWTV belt.
