AEW Wrestledream will take place this Saturday night. Here is our take on what should happen.
Tailgate Kickoff show matches:
Eddie Kingston and Hook vs ???
Cory: Their first match together is not a match they are going to lose. Weird that Big Bill and Bryan Keith don’t have a match on the card, so I think they will be the ones to answer the open challenge.
Richard: Who are their opponents going to be? I can see it being the Premier Athlete Brand or Grizzled Young Veterans taking the loss in this match. Eddie and Hook are going to win.
Mike: Obviously, they will lose in 30 seconds. I kid.
FTR vs JetSpeed
Cory: We have gotten this match a few times in different iterations, and after a big flurry in the beginning, Jetspeed is settling into a mid-card role. FTR is probably going after the titles after this match, so I would count on them winning.
Richard: Let Kevin Knight fly around like a crazy man, but give FTR the win.
Mike: I like both teams, but I think FTR needs a little more momentum right now so they can be set when Christian and Copeland return. They should win.
Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford vs Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron
Cory: This is another one where we have gotten various iterations of this match the last few weeks. While I don’t see Megan losing, Penelope’s job seems to be to take the pin. However, Megan is poised for a run at the top, so I can see her pinning Harley, since a loss won’t hurt Harley at all.
Richard: Harley has taken the pins lately so it is time for Willow and Harley to get the win. Will this mean anything for next week's TV?
Mike: This should be fun, but I see Willow pinning Penelope.
The Conglomeration vs. Death Riders
Cory:The 4th match in an hour long pre-show, so we won’t get a lot of craziness. I see the Death Riders going over to make us think Mox is going to win.
Richard: It used to be four way Women's title matches, now it is eight person tag matches on the Zero Hour/Tailgate show. Give the Conglomeration the win because it is time to put the Walk through the Halls and Sulk Squad on the back burners for a while.
Mike: I say just let them brawl all over and don't have a finish!
WrestleDream PPV matches
The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and MVP) vs. The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona)
Cory:The Hurt Syndicate took a loss to The Demand once in their feud, so it’s time for them to get their revenge. MVP pins Ricochet to get back his loss.
Richard: Hasn't this feud ended a few times already? Give Ricochet and his guys the win this time.
Mike: My gut is Ricochet gets cornered and creamed by the end. Hurt Syndicate wins.
Jamie Hayter vs. Thekla
Cory: This is where we are going to see if these two women can take the next step. Jamie has been rebuilding since her return from injury, and her promo on Wednesday shows she still has a lot of work to do in that area. She’s great in the ring, but we still don’t know much about her other than “she’s strong.” Thekla has a lot of potential, but her promo didn’t set the world on fire either, so this match doesn’t have the fire they want. I look for this to be a great match with Thekla coming out on top.
Richard: They are positioning Thekla for the next shot at the title so I expect her to win the match, but with help from Julia and Skye. Hayter will have the better performance, but the best doesn't always win the match. Maybe they can make me understand the hype for Thekla, because I don't get it at this time.
Mike: I like each of them, but it seems like Thekla as the prime challenger going forward is the directive, so I see her winning.
Brodido (Bandido and Brody King) (c) vs. Don Callis Family (Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita) (with Don Callis)
Cory: They are teasing the Okada/Takeshita break up at every opportunity, and with Takeshita winning the IWGP title, I am hoping for their match to be at WrestleKingdom. The only question is will they set them off at this show or wait? AEW has not done the “tag team partners who hate each other and have the title” yet, and Okada looks like he is having a LOT of fun with Takeshita. I am going to go with them winning the title and the team implodes over the next month.
Richard: Takeshita is your IWGP champion so why should he care about tag titles, unless he wants to catch Mone for number of titles. Bandido is injured so that should give the advantage to the Thumb's associates. I could see one of the 14,203,234,223,322.43 members of the group getting involved to help them win the titles.
Mike: I think we are seeing a title change here.
Kyle Fletcher (TNT Champion) vs. Mark Briscoe
Cory: I think this match will be great, the stuff they have been doing with each other has been good, but I don’t see Kyle losing the title yet. Kyle retains.
Richard: Don Callis will be on my TV screen for this match, but the focus should be on the two men in the match. It would be a hell of a moment if Mark won the match, but I don't think it is happening. This will be a good match and could steal the show.
Mike: It's time for the big Mark Briscoe win!
Jurassic Express (Jack Perry and Luchasaurus) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson)
Cory: Jurassic Express is not going to lose their first big match back, and since it’s a Big Money match, it’s in keeping for the Bucks not to get the money. Love for this to be a spotfest with tons of big moves to pop the crowd. I still think Jack Perry is hiding his true intentions, and will be turning heel at some point soon, but not in this match. Jurassic Express wins.
Richard: With another half million dollars on the line for this match, the Bucks will be motivated, and maybe they won't lose it at a casino. If this match was in 2020, it would mean more to me. There will be super kicks in this match. It means more if Jack and Luchasaurus win the match so that is what is going to happen.
Mike: I don't see The Bucks losing.
Kris Statlander (AEW Women’s Champion) vs. "Timeless" Toni Storm
Cory: I am tempted to say Toni gets her title back, but Kris is so beloved backstage, and has worked so hard the last few years, she deserves a long run with the title. She is also bringing back a little of her “alien” persona in recent promos, not in a goofy way, but in a way to make her seem larger than life. Toni is so big and so good she doesn’t need the title. She keeps saying she is looking for someone to “murder” her, so when Kris beats her this time, does she come back with a new gimmick? Kris retains.
Richard: I really liked the promos they did on the Lakeland Collision and had me sold on this match. Are they going to take the belt off Statlander so soon? We have so many other women who can jump into the title picture so I think we will see this match again, but a few months down the road. Toni has shown respect to Kris over the loss and how important it is to get the title back. That desperation will cost her in the end. Statlander wins.
Mike: I am looking forward to this one. I think the best choice would be Kris winning to help strengthen her title run.
"Hangman" Adam Page (AEW World Champion) vs. Samoa Joe
Cory: Page is going to retain the title, especially since this feud came out of nowhere. I expect this to be an incredible match, as Joe is still able to put on incredible matches, and Page has been improving since winning the title this time. Add to it that Joe is transitioning toward retirement at the end of his latest contract, he’s old school enough his job is to build up the younger stars. I expect this to be a kick ass match with Page winning.
Richard: The odds are against Joe, but this will be a good match because Joe won't do anything he doesn't want to do or isn't able to do in the match. I hope this match has no distractiference because any outside factors into this match will take away from what we will get from these two men. Joe will get a few near falls, but Page's youth will be the determining factor for the Buckshot to get the win.
Mike: I am a massive fan of Samoa Joe, but I see Page winning this one.
Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley
Two guys who want to see just how far they can go in the ring in an I Quit match? Both of whom have big groups behind them and the match is no DQ? I expect this to be a brutal near death match with lots and lots of interference and spots no one should ever do. One thing that Mox has been doing that I like is that he is, in his own way, building up younger talent. This is the kind of feud that Darby is known for as well. Odds are I will not like this match, but Darby is going to get Mox to say I Quit.
Richard: If enough fans chant "I Quit" will they end this match? I am excited that we will see the hallways of the arena during the PPV since the rest of the group is on the TNT show. With all of the stipulation matches these two men have had, will this be the final match in the feud? Magic 8 Ball says 'probably not'. Moxley will get help from the other Dirt Devil Sulking Squad members. Darby will fight them off for about 5 minutes, but in the end Mox will use the ice pick that Darby used climbing Mount Everest to force Darby to say those two magic words.
